venice travel study 2012

PROGRAM GUIDE overview Thank you for your interest in the Venice Travel Study Program, offered June 10-24, 2012. The Travel Study Program now in it’s 12th year, is exceptionally rich combining a study of renaissance, classical, modern art and architecture with an infusion of Italian history and culture. This is truly a learning opportunity of a lifetime. Past travel guests have described the trip as being “like a two-week learning vacation.” The Venice Travel Study Program has been developed for University students and is also open to the public. Students, “patrons of the arts”, practicing architects, artists, photographers and designers, family and friends, all who join will appreciate the interdisciplinary nature of the program. The overall group experience is unique and very personalized. Our travel group is always small (typically 8-16 guests) and as a result, we are able to move comfortably through Venice’s narrow streets and the more crowded tourist sites. Trip participants will live in the city of canals, in fully equipped three-star apartments in the heart of the old city. Our apartments are within easy walking distance of the Rialto Bridge, San Marco and other famous sites. We will walk the streets, shop in the markets, and visit churches and palaces, we will experience the Venice that tourists do not usually see, we will experience Venice living like a local. In addition to visiting the great works of Renaissance and Modern masters such as Andrea Palladio and Carlo Scarpa, students will learn about the history of this unique city, it’s art and it’s culture. We offer sketching as a group activity and sketching sessions are structured to allow the beginning artist opportunities to develop a sense of artistic expression, and for the more experienced students / professionals, there are certainly challenges that will captivate and inspire you to do your best work. There is a three-day weekend specifically built into the itinerary that allows our guests an opportunity to venture out and expand their European travel experience or perhaps just stay in Venice and “shop to you drop”. Suggestions and help with travel arrangements within Italy such as a visit to Florence, Rome or perhaps a weekend at the beautiful Lake Como, can be arranged by our Travel Consultant: Experience Italy. For the more adventurous traveler, Paris or Prague for example, are each less than a 2-hour flight from Venice. The Venice Travel Study Program is led by California State University, Sacramento Professors, Andrew Anker and Jim Kenney. Both Tour Group Leaders are tenured faculty and architects, adding a unique perspective to the itinerary. Please join us at any of our scheduled presentations with two meetings each month beginning in January and ending in March. If you have questions or would like more information, feel free to call or email, we both love to talk about the Travel Study Program and would be happy to answer your questions. Because enrollment is limited, we recommend you apply early. We hope you can join us this summer in Venice!
