Y om Kippur marks one of the most important days of the year in the Jewish faith.
This year, the holiday begins at sundown on September 22 and continues until the
following day, September 23, at nightfall. The day is very solemn and known as the Day
of Atonement -- a time to reflect on sins committed in the last year and repent. It is also a
time to mourn the losses of loved ones. Jews spend the holiday fasting for 25 hours,
starting at sundown the first day and continuing until the next nightfall. Traditionally, the
blowing of the shofar commences the end of Yom Kippur. The long, single blast of the
shofar heralds a new year. Families and friends then come together at the end of Yom
Kippur to break the fast with a big feast.

Riddle Me This….A cowboy rides into town on Friday,
stays three days and leaves on Friday. How is this
possible? (See answer below)
Use good judgment and avoid these situations…
1. Calling student(s) at home or on their cell phone, except for
specific school-related purposes and/or situations.
2. Providing student(s) with a personal home/cell telephone
number, personal email address, home address, or other per-
sonal contact information, except for specific school-related
purposes and/or situations.

MAKE LESSONS MEANINGFUL
Students don’t want to learn what they can’t relate to. You
don’t have to change your content, just change the way you
teach your content. For instance, instead of having students
identify nouns in sentences, have them attempt to speak
without using nouns. It’s a fun activity, and they quickly learn
just how important nouns are to language. When teaching
anything, simply ask yourself, “Why is this skill important to the
students?” Then teach that way.
