Sub: Invitation to participate in ” SEA-PORAM - Vegetable Oils Contracts & Arbitration Workshop – 2011”

5th – 6th August 2011 at Hotel Vivanta by Taj-President, Mumbai.

We are happy to inform you that The Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA),

in association with The Palm Oil Refiners Association of Malaysia (PORAM), is organising

the “VEGETABLE OILS CONTRACTS & ARBITRATION WORKSHOP – 2011” on 5th – 6th

August 2011 at Hotel Vivanta by Taj - President , Mumbai.

India is the largest importer of Oil in the world. This trade has grown exponentially in the

last 20 years. Yet there is no formal training mechanism developed within India for the

benefit of those entering the trade or for those already engaged in it. In times of high

volatility and government intervention, disputes and dislocation of trade are bound to arise.

It is important that we have structures and training in place so that our professionals are

able to cope with such developments. PORAM is an overseas trade association. As a trade

body, it has developed „PORAM Standard Specifications for Processed Palm Oil‟ and issued

several contracts both individually and jointly with other trade organizations. PORAM is also

empowered to facilitate the implementation and the conduct of arbitration under the

PORAM Rules of Arbitration and Appeal. In order to facilitate an orderly and efficient

trading of palm oil products, it is the interest of PORAM to share their expertise with

professionals on the nature of these contracts and experience in dispute resolution. Better

training and understanding of trade obligations can also lead to minimising of disputes.

Therefore it is not before time that SEA has embarked on a journey to develop a training

programme for import and export professionals.

This two days workshop is designed to provide fundamental understanding of contracts,

performance and enforcement of contracts, and the practice of dispute resolution. The

Workshop also incorporates highly essential practical sessions for participant to develop

greater depth of understanding, knowledge & skills required in fact gathering and

organizing argument statements for the arbitration dispute resolution process. This

workshop will discuss typical contract issues, the associated risk, and solutions to disputes

should also be of interest to shipping operators, surveyors, insurers and

importers/exporters.

This workshop is beneficial for all oil/fats personnel who are directly or indirectly involve

with contract. Indian and overseas participants should attend this workshop who wish to

understand clearly and succinctly the terms & contractual obligations that are in force

and how best to resolve trade disputes. It is also helpful to develop new business contacts

& also to strengthen the existing one. This workshop is particularly tailored for traders,

marketing executives, operation managers & executives, procurement officers, contract &

legal department personnel and individual wishing to familiarize themselves with the

contracts and arbitration process. Distinguish speakers who are well versed with the trade

or arbitration have been invited to speak on their respective subjects.
