Unit 7: Using Water
Our water use activity guide and worksheet Estimated duration: 30 minutes
Aim • To have students work out where they use water on a daily basis
Outcome By the end of this class, students will be able to:
• Recognise where they use water in their everyday lives • Compare their water use with current targets
Resources • Average daily water use per person for your area (available from
http://www.ourwater.vic.gov.au/saving/towns/household‐water‐consumption)
• Worksheet: Our water use (included below)
Activity Description Either in small groups or one large group ask students:
• Where do you use water? • How much does that process/appliance use? • How many times do you do that each day/week?
Distribute the ‘How much water do you use?’ worksheet. Students calculate the amount of water they use in each area of the household and then sum these figures for a total. It is possible to also have them calculate percentage use in each area. Next, have students compare their figures with the average water usage for your area, from http://www.ourwater.vic.gov.au/saving/towns/household‐water‐consumption. Discussion can then take place on why their figures may be different.
