LES MEDIEVALES – LES ARCS 17 – 20 July The 28 edition of the Mediavales – a unique celebration in this region – will be the weekend of the 17 – 20 July, in Les Arcs. The whole village gets involved, and they promise lots of new exciting events.

It only happens every two years, but it is quite unmissable. This year the

accent will be on legendary mythical beasts of the middle ages, there will be a camp, medieval market, son & lumiere, parades, demonstrations, all to delight the over 30,000 visitors that will descend on the village. Villagers are sewing their costumes, disguises, you name it.

EXPO BONNARD MUSEUM – LE CANNET HENRI MANGUIN Un Fauve Chez Bonnard 27 June – 31 October This summer the Bonnard Museum in Le Cannet, above Cannes is celebrating the works of Henri Manguin, a close associate of Pierre Bonnard, and a leading ‘fauvist’ the so called wild painters of that era, just following in the footsteps of the Impressionists. The works are from the period before the first World War 1900 to 1914, the recurrent themes being his family – Jeanne, his wife and muse, the countryside, above all of this region, and his explorations into Fauvisme.

His studio (1874 – 1949) in Paris, on the rue Boursault, like his houses in St. Tropez, frequently welcomed his artist friends – Henri Matisse, Albert Marquet, Charles Camoin, Henri Lebasque, and of course Pierre Bonnard (one can see works of several of the above also this summer at the Annonciade Museum, St. Tropez) If you love the Fauvist period both these shows are totally unmissable. LUMIERE – LES BAUX DE PROVENCE LES GEANTS DE LA RENAISSANCE – Michael Angelo, Leonardo da Vinci, & Raphael – 3 January 2016 The Italian team of Gianfranco Iannuzzi,

Renato Gatto et Massimiliano Siccardi,

have yet again produced another superb

art blockbuster, featuring the greatest art

of the Italian Renaissance, enabling one to

take new, larger than life, views of great

Italian art masterpieces.

Projected onto the immense walls of the

limestone quarry, better to view their

excellence and detail, it will feature the

chefs dóevres realised by Leonardo da

Vinci, Michael Angelo, and Raphael, from

the end of XV to the beginning of XVI

siecle, in Florence, Milan and Rome. all to

a back ground of suitable music – it’s an

unique experience, out of the common,

and well worth visiting.

For over thirty minutes the spectator can

wander round the quarry/artshow/event

which boasts over 7000 m2 of display

space

Works featured include :

L’Annonciation, la Vierge à l’Enfant avec

Sainte Anne, La Joconde and La Cène de

Léonard de Vinci (1442-1519) ; la Dame à

la licorne, l’Ecole d’Athènes or le Triomphe

de Galatée, Raphaël (1483-1520) ; roof of

the Sistine Chapel, and Jugement dernier

by Michael Angelo. (1475-1564).

In 2014 more 460,000 visitors toured the

amazing Klimt, Schiele and

Hundertwasser show, and since its

opening more 1 million people have

visited to see art in this new way.
