HISTORY

The name of the village we visited is Kampung Pinang. Kampung Pinang is

located in Kamunting, Taiping, Perak. The postcode of Kampung Pinang is 34600

Kamunting. Kampung Pinang was established in 1947 and is the first new village in

Kamunting, Perak. The land in this area is sandy and swampy ex-tin mining land.

The village was named Kampung Pinang because the area had many Pinang trees. In

the early days of this village, there were limited education facilities and infrastructure.

It was in the 1960s that roads and water supply were improved. In 1947, Kampung

Pinang had only 30 residents. In contrast, its population in 2000 was 17,345.

Unfortunately, this village‟s population has steadily declined to 7,800+ today. Many

residents migrated to cities like Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur in search of better

employment opportunities. As a result, the majority of residents in Kampung Pinang

today are kids and senior citizen. Those residents who work in the city will return to

Kampung Pinang during holidays.
