Formative Assessment is a process used by teachers and students during instruction that provides feedback to adjust ongoing teaching and learning to improve students’ achievement of intended instructional outcomes.

The most common--and in fact, nearly universal--teacher-reported effect on students was an increase in motivation.
Students are able to handle more complex assignments and do more with higher-order skills.
