Creating PowerPoint Hyperlinks
Purpose:
This workshop activity answers the question:
How are links created to move from a PowerPoint show to a website, or movie clip, etc.?
Types of Bridges
There are multiple types of connecting links that can be created. In this presentation we will discuss three; 1) an action button, 2) text, or 3) a picture
1. Determine the desired type for your bridge: action button, text, or picture
2. Insert, copy and paste, or click on slide show (menu above)
3. Test the Link
• Examples of each follow:1. First the action button

• Office 2003• Click on the Slide
Show button
• Slide the cursor over the action buttons, and click on your button choice

• Click and drag the shape and size of the button, then release the left mouse button

• The action settings dialogue box will open automatically
• There are multiple choices here, but we are focused on hyperlinking to (the default)

• Click on the drop down arrow and select the type and/or location of the destination, e.g., a website

• Clicking on the chosen type opens the box for input (typed or pasted)
• In this example http://www.brainpop.was entered
• Then click OK

• The dialogue box responds with the URL address completed
• Click OK again

• The response is the action button ready to be used, BUT WAIT!
• If you wish to add text to the action button, change the color it may be accomplished here.

• Right click on the button and the choices are revealed
• Clicking Add Text is used to label the button, format AutoShape to change color

• After clicking on the AddText choice the button is selected and you may proceed to label your button
• Changing the color, if desired, is done by selecting format AutoShape and then clicking on the desired color from the palate

button and select to start the PowerPoint from this slide by movie screen icon on the lower left part of the screen
• Office 2007• Click off the
button and select to start the PowerPoint from this slide by movie screen icon on the lower right part of the screen

• The screen returns to the PowerPoint application and is ready for you to try your new link

• Magically . . . We arrive at the destination on the web . . . Brainpop
Using text to connect information
• Choose the word or phrase that will act as the trigger
• Our example will be the word ago
Fourscore and seven years ago
Using text
1. Highlight the word or phrase you have chosen to enable the link
2. and right click
3. Click on Hyperlink

• The word is underlined when the link is created
• As before, start the presentation, then click on the word

• Just like Magic . . . The linked information is displayed

Using a picture or object to link
• Choose the picture or object that will act as the trigger
• Our example will be the picture on the next slide

• Navigate to the file you wish to have opened
• Click OK• The link is
now established
