Primary Review – Rationale

3.44 Even now, a reasonable grasp of ICT is needed in education and employment, and it will become increasingly important to command ICT skills to

prepare for technologies of the future.

3.45 To argue against the importance of ICT in theprimary curriculum is to ignore the increasing

digitisation of information worldwide.

Information and communication technology is reclassified as part of the Basic Curriculum and requirements should be established so that it permeates all National Curriculum subjects. We have also noted the arguments, made by some respondents to the Call for Evidence,58 that there should be more widespread teaching of computer science in secondary schools. We recommend that this proposition is properly considered.

• We need to give time to pupils to learn these technologies in order to then use them to facilitate learning

• When pupils’ ICT skills grow, their focus will switch to learning via the tool, i.e. the tool now enhances the learning

• General:– videos of where you are stuck with H/W– teachers could post work during school closures– a blog per subject to help catch up / go over class notes / find out homework – podcasts would make cover work easier on snow days
