Customer Information

1. The ORBIT-6 (Model RP-206 ) complies with FCC Part 68 Rules. On the upperpanel of this product is a label that contains, among other information, the FCCRegistration Number and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN is 0.8B). If requested,this information must be provided to the Telephone Company.

2. An FCC compliant telephone connector is provided with this equipment. Thisequipment is designed to be connected to the telephone network or premiseswiring using a connector, which is Part 68 compliant.

3. If the ORBIT-6 (RP-206 ) is not operating properly, it may cause harm to thetelephone network. If so, the Telephone Company will notify you in advance that atemporary discontinuance of service may be required. If advance notice is notpractical, you will be notified as soon as possible. Also, you will be advised of yourright to file a complaint with the FCC if it is necessary.

4. The Telephone Company may make changes in its facilities, equipment,operations, or procedures, which could affect the operation of the equipment. If thishappens, the Telephone Company will provide advance notice in order to enableyou to make the necessary modifications to maintain uninterrupted service. If theequipment is causing harm to the telephone network, the Telephone Company mayrequest that the equipment be disconnected until the problem is resolved.

5. Connection to telephone company-provided coin service is prohibited. Connectionto party line service is subject to state tariffs.

Section 1: Let’s Get Acquainted

INTRODUCTION Congratulations on your purchase of Rokonet’sORBIT-6 Security System. The ORBIT-6 has beenspecifically designed to meet a wide range ofsecurity needs for many residential and smallcommercial applications.

You communicate with your ORBIT-6 through itskeypad(s). Using its keys, you can issuecommands to your system. In turn, the system cancommunicate information to you via its indicatorsand by the sounds it makes.

Your ORBIT-6 security system also consists of avariety of sensors, detectors, and contactsplaced throughout the premises and designed torecognize abnormal conditions. Typically, yoursystem protects against intrusion. Some systemsmay also have fire protection or environmentalprotection (such as gas or water level sensors)

All of your system's detectors, sensors, andcontacts are wired to the control panel. As such,your system always knows the status of anyprotected door, window, hallway, room, or area.Similarly, it knows if a smoke detector has beenactivated.

The control panel, which contains the system'selectronics and backup battery, functions in thebackground and, for purposes of security, isinstalled out of sight.

SOME DEFINITIONS There are a few terms with which you shouldbecome familiar. Knowing them will help you tobetter understand and use your system

Zone A single detector, or group of detectors, usuallyrelating to a certain area of the premises or type ofprotection. Zones that use devices designed todetect break-ins, are called intrusion zones.Another kind of zone may contain one or moreSmoke Detectors. Such zones are called firezones. An environmental zone typically protectsthe premises from gas leaks and/or flooding.

24-Hour Zone A 24-Hour intrusion zone is always armed and isusually assigned to openings which should neverbe disturbed-like fixed glass and non-movableskylights.

Day Zone A Day Zone is one in which a violation during thedisarmed period results only in a keypadannunciation. However, the same violation duringthe armed period will cause a full-fledged alarm.

Central Stations Besides producing audible alarms at yourpremises, it's likely that your system is set up to

Key-switch Your system may also be equipped with akeyswitch, useful for simple arming and disarmingoperations - usually at a remote location.

Section 2: Your Keypad

VISUAL INDICATORS The Orbit-6 can support 6 and 8 zone LED andLCD keypads. Both of these keypads have thesame operating procedures. This section discussesthe keypad's visual indicators and the use of itskeys.

Each keypad in yoursystem reports its statusvia its LED (lighted)indicators at the right.Through its keys, you canenter commands to "arm"and "disarm" the system,bypass intrusion zones,report emergencies,silence an alarm inprogress–along withseveral other usefulfunctions.

The four LED indicators found at the upper rightprovide typical system indications, as discussedbelow and on the next page. Some indicators haveadditional functions, explained later on.

POWER LEDCONDITION

(see note at left)EXPLANATION

ON The system is operating properlyfrom commercial (AC) power; itsbackup battery is in goodcondition.

OFF The system is inoperative due tothe lack of power (from bothcommercial AC and backupbattery); servicing will be required.

FLASHING

(disarmedstate)

Indicates a trouble condition; formore information on displaying andattending to trouble conditions, seepages 29 through 30.

The POWER LED is auseful indicator reflectingthe system's operation.

NOTE: If a troublecondition exists, thePOWER LED will flashonly when the system isin its disarmed state.Once the system isarmed, a previouslyflashing POWER LED willlight steadily.

ARM LED

CONDITION EXPLANATION

ON The system's intrusion detectors arearmed; subsequent violations of aprotected point or area (e.g. a door,a window, unauthorized motion) willresult in a burglar alarm.

OFF The intrusion function of thesystem is disarmed.

The ARM LED indicateswhether or not thesystem's intrusiondetectors are armed.

FLASHING Occurs when using the emergencykeys on the keypad to send panic,fire or special emergency alarm andalso when viewing alarms afterdisarming.

READY LED

CONDITION EXPLANATION

ON All intrusion zones are secure; thesystem is ready to be armed.

OFF One or more intrusion zones are notsecure and the system is not readyto be armed; before the system canbe armed, the condition must beaddressed (see pg. 20 through21).

The READY LEDindicates whether or notthe system's intrusionzones are secured andready to be armed.

FLASHING Indicates that one or more of thesystem's intrusion zones have beenbypassed; for more information onbypassing (see pages 20 through21).

FIRE LED

CONDITION EXPLANATION

ON A fire alarm or fire emergency isin progress or has recentlyoccurred.

OFF All fire zones are operatingnormally.

When lit, the FIRE LEDindicates that the systemis experiencing a firealarm. When flashing, aproblem has beendetected on the firecircuit, and must beserviced.

FLASHING A fault has been detected in thesystem's fire zone and needs to becorrected; for more information onfire zone trouble (see page 29).

Section 3: Things You Should Know About Your ORBIT-6

ArmingYour System

Arming your system enables its intrusiondetectors to trigger an alarm when violated.Remember, fire protection and the protectionoffered by the keypad's emergency keys arealways armed and always available. If your systemis equipped with environmental protection (e.g. gasand/or water level detection) it is always availabletoo.

Secured or Bypassed:Before you arm your system, all of its zones musteither be secured or bypassed. The keypad'sREADY LED, if lit, indicates that all zones aresecured. If the READY LED is not lit, a numberedLED corresponding to the unsecured zone(s) willbe flashing. Before you can arm your system, theindicated zone(s) must be identified and secured. Ifthis is not possible, the affected zone(s) can bebypassed and will be ignored by the system duringthe subsequent armed period. Recall thatbypassing, however necessary, reduces thesystem's degree of intrusion protection.

Full Arming andHome Arming

Your ORBIT-6 offers two kinds of system arming.Full Arming prepares all of the system's intrusiondetectors to sound an alarm, if violated. It is mostoften used when the premises will be empty.Home Arming (or Stay Arming) allows individualsto remain inside and move about the premiseseven after the system is armed. Home Armingarms the perimeter detectors (e.g. door andwindows), while leaving interior detectors (e.g.motion detectors) disarmed (bypassed).

Quick Arming andCode Arming

Your ORBIT-6 also offers two methods of arming.Quick Arming achieves the result with just the

press of a single key (either or ).Code Arming requires that a valid Master Code orUser Code be entered first. Whether or not yoursystem permits Quick Arming was determinedduring its installation.

Entry/Exit Delays Your security system must incorporate anEntry/Exit Delay to allow proper entry and exit toand from the premises without causing inadvertentalarms. A delay period was chosen during yoursystem's installation to provide suitable time toallow for your entry and exit.

Arming with theFront Door Open

If set up by your alarm company, the ORBIT-6allows you the convenience of arming your systemwith the front door either closed or open, afterwhich you must close the door as you leave thepremises before the exit delay period expires. Withsuch a door open (and all other zones secure), thesystem is considered "ready to arm"; the Zone LEDcorresponding to the opened door will be lit, as willyour keypad's READY LED.

Sounder Cutoff It's likely that your security system was installedwith a sounding device (e.g. a siren or a bell).Typically, all sounding devices have cutoffs; that is,they will shut off after a predetermined interval(usually several minutes) set by your alarmcompany. In many locales, this is required by law.Once a sounder shuts off, it is still capable ofresponding to a subsequent alarm during the samearmed period.

Panic Button A special panic button can be installed at anypreferred location, to allow immediate and flexiblealarm notification in time of distress.

The "Squawk"Feature

A feature known as Bell Squawk is available foryour system. If selected by your alarm company,the Bell Squawk causes the system's externalsounder (either a siren or a bell) to produce amomentary "beep" as follows:

One beep: At the conclusion of the Exit Delay,confirming that the system has been successfullyarmed.

Two beeps: Confirming that the system has beendisarmed .

Four beeps: Confirming that the system has beendisarmed after an alarm has occurred.

Follow-Me Feature In case of an alarm event a phone call can bemade to a predefined phone number. There arethree different tone types that represent burglary,fire and special emergency alarms. The Follow-Mefunction can support two phone numbers.

Voice Feature An optional Voice Module can be added to yoursystem. Up to 3 short messages can be recorded.These messages replace the alarm tones normallyproduced in the follow-me mode.

Zone Bypassing It may be convenient to have one (or more) of thezones in your installation bypassed–and thusignored by your system.

Duress Disarming If you are ever coerced into disarming your system,you can comply with the intruder's wishes whilesending a silent, duress alarm, to the CentralStation. To do so, you must use a specialDuress Code. Which when used, will disarm thesystem in the regular manner, while simultaneouslytransmitting a silent alarm to the central station.

Your Orbit-6 offers two methods of Bypassing:Quick Bypassing achieves the result by pressingthe key number corresponding to the zone to bebypassed for 2 seconds.Code Bypassing requires a valid Master Code orUser Code to be entered first.Whether or not your system permits QuickBypassing was determined during its installation.

Section 4: Operating Your SystemIn this section, you'll learn how to perform most of the functions needed toproperly operate your ORBIT-6 and to get the most out of your securitysystem.

EMERGENCY KEYSYour keypad provides three sets of keys, which can be pushed at any time thepolice, fire department, or special emergency is required.

Panic Key Pressing and simultaneously, andfor at least two seconds, will activate aPanic Key alarm.

Fire Emergency Pressing and simultaneously, andfor at least two seconds, will activate aFire Emergency alarm.

SpecialEmergency

Pressing and simultaneously, andfor at least two seconds, will activate a SpecialEmergency alarm.

The annunciation that results during these emergency alarms, along with othersystem sounds, is covered in Section 5.

USER CODES To perform many of the ORBIT-6's functions, afour-digit security code (often called a UserCode) must be entered at the keypad. Inresidential systems, it's likely that all familymembers will share the same User Code. Incertain commercial systems, however, it'scommon to give each authorized employeehis/her own User Code (discussed on page 17).Your ORBIT-6 permits up to ten User Codes.One of the codes is considered the MasterCode; the individual(s) using the Master Codeis given the following special privileges:

•• adding, modifying, and deleting User Codes•• setting the system's internal clock•• performing certain system functions and tests

Except for these considerations, theMaster Code and any User Codes assigned tothe system operate identically.Your ORBIT-6 was given a Master Code of1–2–3–4 during manufacturing. Unless youralarm company has already changed it to suityour preference, it's best to modify this code toone which is unique and personalized. Tochange the Master Code, and/or to set up UserCodes, follow the steps on page 17.

SETTING/CHANGING THE MASTER/USER CODES

DELETING USER CODESAt times, it may be desirable to completely delete a User Code. Note that it isimpossible to delete the Master Code (although it can be changed).

4 Enter 0-0-0-0 (which is NOT a valid code) to clear theselected User Code.

5 If successful, the keypad will emit a one-secondconfirming tone. The selected User Code is now deleted.

If your system has Quick Arming, simply press .

3 If required, leave the premises and close the door. Thekeypad will beep as it counts down the Exit Delay period.The internal zones will be automatically bypassed.

Note: By pressing (twice) the system will silence the beeps onthe keypad and cancel the entry delay time.

By pressing during exit time will silence the beeps on thekeypad.

BYPASSING A ZONE

STEP DESCRIPTION1 Check the READY LED on your

keypad. If NOT lit or flashing, thesystem has at least one faulted intrusionzone identified by noting which LED(s)are flashing in the keypad's ZONESarea, shown at the left.

To bypass such a zone(s) and cause it to be ignored by thesystem, enter the following sequence correctly:

Press # or Q to approve or wait 2 seconds (timeout period).

If the system is programmed for quick bypass the followingoption is available:

To bypass a zone simply press the corresponding keypadnumber for at least 2 seconds.

An additional zone(s) can be bypassed at the same time byadding its number to the sequence. For example, to bypassZones 2 and 3, press:

[ 2 ] for 2 seconds + [ 3 ]

The same sequence can “toggle” the bypass(es) during thedisarmed period so that they may be either applied orremoved.

Furthermore, until reset, you willbe prevented from arming your system. DURESS DISARMINGAll 10 user codes can activate the Duressdisarming by adding 1 to the last digit of youruser code.

Section 7: System TroublesYour ORBIT-6 is designed to report any troubles or malfunctions it may detect.Notification that a problem exists is made to the user, through indications onthe keypad(s) and, in many cases, to the Central Station and to your dealer.Any incidence of trouble should be taken seriously and acted uponimmediately. If not remedied quickly, a trouble condition will likely compromiseyour system and prevent it from properly doing its job.

The ORBIT-6 is designed to be as trouble-free as possible. Were a problem todevelop, the POWER LED will flash about once every second. If so, todetermine the problem, perform the sequence on the following page.

In certain cases, the keypad's FIRE LED may remain lit steadily, even thoughthere is no alarm in progress and the system is disarmed. Refer to theexplanation and remedy below:

After a fire alarm has occurred and been silenced, thekeypad's red FIRE LED will remain lit steadily if a SmokeDetector (presumably the one which caused the alarm)remains tripped. Until reset, a tripped Smoke Detector willprevent the READY LED from being lit, and will NOT permitthe system to be armed.

To reset a tripped Smoke detector and to extinguish the redFIRE LED, follow this procedure, which is typical:

If intact, check that a blown fuse, a switch, or atripped circuit breaker has not interrupted the circuit supplying power tothe transformer.NOTE 2: The ORBIT-6 has failed in its attempts to report an alarm ortrouble condition to the Central Station. Check that your telephone line isfunctioning. Check to see if your external bell has been tampered with. If theproblem still exists contact your dealer.NOTE 3: The ORBIT-6 has failed in its attempt to identify the Bell Loop.

It is possible for more than one trouble to be present at the same time.If so, multiple Zone LEDs will be lit simultaneously.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION PLANS

An emergency evacuation plan should be established and used during anactual fire alarm condition. The following steps are recommended by theNational Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and can be used as a guidewhen establishing a similar plan for your circumstances.

1. Draw a floor plan of your premises showing windows, doors, stairs,and rooftops, which can be used for escape. An example has beenprovided below.

2. Indicate each occupant's escape routes by determining two means offlight from each room. One should be the normal exit from thebuilding, while the other may be a window that opens easily, oranother alternate route. An escape ladder may have to be locatednear an escape window if there is a long drop to the ground below.Always keep escape routes free from obstruction.

3. Practice escape procedures and set a meeting place outdoors for aheadcount of the building's occupants.

4. In a home, sleep with the bedroom door closed to increase yourescape time. If a fire is suspected, first test the door for heat. If youthink it is safe, brace your shoulder against the door and open itcautiously. Be ready to slam the door if smoke and heat rush in.

5. After escaping from a fire, call the Fire Department from a neighbor'sphone.

After the installation of yourSecurity System has been completed,notify your local Fire and PoliceDepartments to give them your nameand address for their records. Earlywarning fire detection is bestachieved by the installation of firedetection devices in all rooms. Thisequipment should be installed inaccordance with the National FireProtection Association's Standard 72.
