The sheet attached to the electro-stimulator

Xformer/EXE is designed to provide a practical andfast reference tool.

The tables on the sheet have been organised accor-ding to the four programme sections on the

Xformer/EXE and will help you use the machine in asimple and precise way by providing details on weeklystimulation frequencies, muscle groups to be treatedand also by suggesting the best treatment times foreach application.

These tables are simply work-out proposals andshould not be considered binding. Your athletics trai-ner or doctor can give you further advice on how tooptimise training and/or treatment with the

    Xformer/EXE electrostimulation programmes.

IMPORTANT!:We strongly recommend seeing a physician or physio-therapist before carrying out either post-injury or post-surgery rehabilitation treatment.

Types of electrodes andwhere to place them on the body

Above all during the first electrostimulation sessions, it is a good idea to focusspecial attention on how the electrodes are positioned on the body.Good treatment results depend on such positioning. Application of the elec-trodes in fact must also comply with a number of ruleswhich will become a habit only afterusing XFormer/EXE for a certainperiod of time. For those approachingelectrostimulation for thefirst time, we suggesttaking a careful look at thephotographic images whichclearly indicate, muscle bymuscle, how to apply the gel adhesi-ves so as to ensure the correct positioningof the positive and negative poles mar-ked by the grey and black colourrespectively of the jacks.

APPLICATION OF THE SOLID GEL ADHESIVE ELECTRODES

Remove the protective film from the adhesive electrodes and keep this for subsequent use. On each muscle group involved in the treatment, place a pair of adhesive electrodes.Connect the electrodes to a lead and fit this to an output socket of the appliance.

Important : make sure the polarity of the leads is correct.

Conventionally, the black buttons indicate the negative electrodes, while the grey buttonsindicate the positive electrode. The electrodes must generally be positioned following the general instructions described in

the manual relating to treatment applications and programs. These points are subjective. After some trial and error it will nevertheless be simple to findthe positions that ensure best possible stimulation.

Adjust the position of the electrodesonly after reducing the current on the

relevant appliance channel. The main unit of XFormer/EXE features 4separate outputs: the number of outputs tobe used depends on the type of applicationand on how many areas need treating at thesame time.XFormer/EXE can work perfectly well

    with just one output.

    APPLICATION OF WATER SPONGE ELECTRODES

Soak the electrode sponges in normal water using the sprayer provided. The sponges must be perfectly soaked before each treatment, otherwise they willtend to insulate and not conduct the impulses properly (should they become dry, addwater including during treatment). Position the elastic straps and fasten using the special buckle on the area where the elec-trodes are to be fitted. Insert the electrodes underneath the straps on the application points, following the instructions described in the manual relating to electrode treatments and posi-tioning. During the entire treatment, the electrodes must adhere perfectly to the skin and conse-

quently, the elastic straps must be adequately tightened and, if necessary adjusted accordingto need. Connect the buttons of the leads provided to the electrode connectors and connect these

    to the appliance.

Please remember that to achieve the bestresults from the electrostimulation device, electrode positioning must directly involvethe mass of the muscle to be treated andnot the end part connected to the tendons.

At this point in fact, the stimulation will notachieve the desired contraction effectbecause the motoneuron that transmits theelectric impulse branches down inside the

muscle fibres. The following images will show you how toposition the electrodes on top of each singlemuscle or group of muscles. Initially, it isbest to carefully follow the examples shown, but because the anatomy of single indivi-duals differs, with practice you will be able tofind the best areas on which to fit the elec-trodes by yourself.

The fact is that not only does the muscle formation of single individuals differ, but so does skinresistance and above all the fatty layer affects electrical impulse transmission. The layer ofsubcutaneous fat in particular tends to be insulating with respect to electric current, and thisis distributed differently from one person to another. As a practical rule, we just wish to saythat the adipose layer above the muscle is fairly thick and it may be necessary to considerablyincrease the current to achieve the effect indicated by the selected program. If corresponding muscles have to be exercised during the same session, for instance, thequadriceps of the thigh of the right and left legs, the electrodes will have to be positioned per-fectly symmetrical on the relevant muscle areas, otherwise the results of stimulation on thetwo sides could be different.

It should also be remembered that the electrically stimulated muscle must work by means ofisometric contractions, meaning without excessive freedom of movement during contractionto prevent any troublesome feeling of cramp. The position of the body can be different andfreer when low electrical intensity work programs are used: the absence of major contractionsmeans the part involved can be left free.

The operating position with the electrostimulation unit is also important in relation to the grea-ter or lesser mobility of the areas where the electrodes are fitted. Before starting a workoutsession, it is best to take up a comfortable position so as to enable each body area to workin the best possible way.

The illustrations alongside the photos showing electrode fitting, will indicate from time to timethe best position to take up in relation to the trained muscle group. In any case, you shouldfeel comfortable and, if possible, perform muscle stimulation in an environment where tem-perature is between 18 and 30C.

    HOW TO USE

We suggest using the sponge electrodes on large muscle areas that can be comfortablywrapped in the retention straps, as in the case of thighs, buttocks or the abdominal region.

The sponge electrodes are also very useful on very hairy parts of the body. The solid-gel adhesive electrodes are on the other hand recommended for all applications onany part of the body that can be treated with electrostimulation.

SPORT TABLESThe standard TRAINING FREQUENCY contemplates using the electrostimulator for threeweekly sessions on alternate days for each muscle group.

The electrostimulation can be combined with sports training during the same day. In this case, this is considered as combined training and electrostimulation is best performed just once aweek because recovery times tend to lengthen due to the fact that muscle exercise is particu-larly intense. This type of method represents an advanced training model and can only be per-formed after a period of 3-4 electrostimulation sessions held a long time from specific voluntarytraining.

The TRAINING SCHEDULE contemplates cycles of 3-4 weeks of training by electrostimulation, followed by 3 weeks of sports training with voluntary contraction. In the event of wanting to train different aspects such as Strength and Power, the alternatecycle system can be adopted, such as, for instance:

    - 1st week Strength program 2- 2nd week Power program 3- 3rd week Strength program 2

    - 4th week Power program 3

Prolonged electrostimulation on the same muscle group. 12-15 training sessions are enough toobtain good results. It should not be forgotten that muscles require adequate periods to recover. From a general point of view, the sports training process is based on a number of fundamentalnotions, which however must be adapted to the single case. For this reason, the assistance of acoach or competent personal trainer is recommended whenever possible.

BEAUTYTABLESThe correct and regular use of the Beauty programs may considerably improve the toni-

city of tissues and helps, along with a balanced diet, reducing cellulite as well as the loca-lised adipose membrane.Below is an approximate strategy for the successful use of available programs in XformerEXE:

    - 1st week Draining (5 weekly sessions)- 2nd week Draining (5 weekly sessions)- 3rd week Lipolytic (4 weekly sessions)- 4th week Shaping and toning (3/4 weekly sessions)- 5th week Shaping and toning (3/4 weekly sessions)- 6th week Draining (3/4 weekly sessions)

If the pursued goal is to just tone up the muscle groups, only the toning and sports pro-grams may be used for a period of 3-4 weeks, followed by 2-3 weeks of recovery andtraining with voluntary contraction.

In all arthralgia cases, i.e. chronic pain in the joints due to inflammations or deterioration due toage, compressions etc.

The Tens program does bring about a temporary remission of pain, but may do nothing about the causes of

    pain.

A doctor will be able to recommend proper treatment use.

REHAB TABLESWhen using electrostimulation for rehabilitation purposes, it is important to select pro-grams taking into consideration the real condition of the muscle to be treated, as well asthe result which one wants to obtain.

The examples contained in the following tables mainly involve the fibres of the first type orred fibres, which help maintain posture and are involved in repetitive actions and resistan-ce. These are in fact the type of fibres which are first hit by muscular atrophy, which iscaused by a period of immobilisation. We highly recommend consulting a specialist or physiotherapist before beginning rehabili-tation training using electrostimulation.

    95

    REHAB Post injury

In the period immediately after an injury, the specific currents of this program enable the muscle to maintainminimum tone and function characteristics, which would tend to be reduced due to a temporary suspension of

minimum tone and function characteristics, which would tend to be reduced due to a temporary suspension ofnormal activities.Electrostimulation turns out to be a useful practice for functional recovery and for improving results obtainedby traditional rehabilitation therapies. Below are a number of rehabilitation cases where electrostimulation isfrequently used. Treatment of twisted ankles Sprain or breakage of the front ligament of the knee Chondropathy rotulea treatment Treatment following operations on the meniscus

We highly recommend consulting a specialist or physiotherapist before beginning rehabilitationtraining using electrostimulation.

These specialists will be able to indicate the most suibable positioning of electrodes onto the areas involved, accordino to the specific problem.

According to the area to be treated, select the programs for the upper part of the bodyor the lower part of the body
