This power button switches on the computer

Without it the monitor will not display anything!

How to…open a program

• What is a program?• Also known as software!• Allows you to play a game or work on a computer

• Without a program you cannot do anything on the computer

• Examples – Word Processing = OpenOffice or Microsoft Word, Web browser = Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer

Using word processing software, type the following text – using your own name!!

My name is Ruth McAuliffe.I live in Limerick city.

Note the UPPERCASE letters – hold down the Shift key and press the letter

Put in full stops.

Press Enter (also known as Return) key to continue on new line

How to… Insert a CD/DVD

•Keep the side with the text facing upwards•Hold the CD or DVD at the edge and the hole in the centre
