Vilseck Veterinary Treatment Facility – Limited Appointments 1 June: Due to an unexpected departure of their military veterinarian, as well as the long-term absence of their civilian

veterinarian, the Vilseck Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) must reduce its appointment availability beginning on 1 June. Until a new military veterinarian arrives, which likely won't be until September, appointment times will be limited; however, appointments for health certificates and vaccinations necessary for PCS travel will be prioritized. Pets requiring surgery or sick-call visits will be referred to off-post services or other military veterinary clinics. The VTF will open during normal operating hours for questions, clearing, registration and over-the-counter sales, with hours being: 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. & 1-4 p.m., Monday-Thursday; and 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. &1 - 4 p.m. on Fridays. Appointments can be made or questions answered by calling the VTF front desk at DSN 476-2370, CIV 09662-83-2370.

ACAP Presents Boots to Business workshop 3 & 4 June: Boots to Business is an entrepreneurial education program offered by the U.S. Small Business

Administration (SBA) as an elective track within the Department of Defense's revised Transition Assistance Program called Transition Goals, Plans, Success (Transition GPS). The curriculum provides valuable assistance to transitioning service members exploring self-employment opportunities by leading them through the key steps for evaluating business concepts and the foundational knowledge required for developing a business plan. Participants are also introduced to SBA resources available to help access startup capital and additional technical assistance. Boots to Business is delivered in partnership with SBA Resource Partners and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families. It is available free of charge at participating installations to service members and their dependents transitioning or retiring from the U.S. military. The program consists of three parts: The Entrepreneurship Track Overview; Introduction to Entrepreneurship two day course; and Foundations of Entrepreneurship Course. Instructors will be civilians (professors, SBA employees, practitioners or those part of the SBA cooperative agreement) coming to Europe to provide the "Boots to Business" Workshop. DFAS – Military Service Earnings / Buy Back Estimator The Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) has created a "Military Service Earnings/Buy Back Estimator" tool to assist employees in estimating the cost of buying back military time when applying towards civilian retirement. The tool is located on the DFAS website at: http://www.dfas.mil/civilianemployees/militaryservice/militaryservicedeposits/estimator.html. This tool projects estimated earnings and the estimated cost of buying back military service time. This gives employees an unofficial estimate of their military earnings and the estimated cost of buying back military service time, if they make that decision. If an employee chooses to pursue buying back the military time after using the estimator, they must still follow the steps outlined on the ABC-C website. Employees should use ABC-C for questions they may have about buying back military time. They can visit the ABC-C website, www.abc.army.mil, or call the ABC-C toll free telephone number, 877-276-9287.

Foreign travel requirements when attending WWII liberation events We have some great opportunities to participate in World War II liberation ceremonies during the D-Day remembrance, in Normandy, France, on 6 June. But please remember: If you have a clearance, you are required to report all foreign travel (official as well as personal) to your security manager/S2. Official participants are also required to submit an Aircraft & Personnel Automated Clearance System (APACS) request. Unfortunately, APACS doesn’t interface with security clearance systems, so you will still need to report foreign travel to your unit security manager/S2. For U.S. servicemembers/civilian employees attending these ceremonies, the Department of Defense Electronic Foreign Clearance Guide (FCG) https://www.fcg.pentagon.mil/fcg.cfm outlines any special travel requirements (usually, APACS isn’t required). And please remember to report travel plans to your security manager. While you are enjoying these historic events, please remain aware of your surroundings. If you see something out of place or anything that makes you concerned, move away from the area and report it immediately. Have a safe and enjoyable time celebrating the U.S. military’s role in helping to free millions of people during a time of war.

Vehicle Registration wait times Due to employee illness, a busy PCS season and reintegration of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, long lines are expected at the vehicle registration office. We are working hard to get additional counter people to help shorten the time you have to wait. Please be patient as we work through this and plan accordingly.

Laundry appointments for TCP Vilseck Due to the high volume and high workload at the Troop Collection Point Laundry and Dry Cleaning Services in Vilseck, it is highly recommended to make appointments for drop off to avoid long waiting times. To make an appointment call DSN 476-3026, CIV 09662-83-3026. It is also advised that Soldier use the TCP Hohenfels if possible. It is in Hohenfels Training Area, Bldg. 323, DSN 466-2862.

Bulk Trash Pick-Up The County Neustadt/WN will pick up bulk trash over the next few months. Bulk trash must be curbside, in front of your home no later than 6 a.m. on the scheduled pick-up day. Pick-up is provided by contractors of the County Neustadt. Please note that pick-ups will occur in 3 stages based on types of items.

What will be picked up? Everything, that is too big or too heavy to go into the normal refuse container, such as: Furniture, mattresses, carpets, washing machines, dryers, radios, TVs, ovens, stoves, bicycles, strollers, and other items which cannot be dismantled, torn or broken down to a size that would fit in the regular refuse container. Each single item should be no larger than 80x40x32 inches and should not be heavier than 110 lb. Bulk trash consisting of metal (i.e. bicycles, washers, dryers, stoves, etc.) and electronic equipment (such as large appliances, small appliances, cooling devices, information & telecommunications including entertainment equipment) should be put out separately next to the normal bulk trash. What will not be picked up?

Netzaberg Express New Summer Hours 14 June – 22 August: The Netzaberg Express will be switching to its New Summer Hours starting 14 June – 22

August. Only change is Monday thru Friday: 1 pm to 7 pm. Weekends, no change, Saturday: 8 am to 7 pm and Sunday: Closed. Once school starts back, the hours will adjust back to early morning opening. Customers are encouraged to use the Tower Barracks 24 hrs. Express for their needs prior to 1 pm opening of Netzaberg. We ask customers to plan accordingly.

AAFES websites unaffected by Heartbleed vulnerability Army & Air Force Exchange Service customers and vendors have expressed concern about security of their information in light of reports about the Heartbleed security flaw. The Exchange’s online shopping site, shopmyexchange.com, and business partner site, partners.aafes.com, have not been compromised by the Heartbleed security flaw, a vulnerability found in servers that allows hackers to see and collect traffic passing between a server and a web browser once a secure connection is established. “Because of proactive updates and monitoring, all our systems have been protected,” said Philip Stevens, Exchange Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “The Exchange is continually updating its systems to protect against security flaws such as Heartbleed, and protecting military shoppers’ personal information remains a priority.” If Exchange shoppers are concerned about the safety of their data on other web sites, they can protect themselves from the security flaw by changing online passwords for personal banking, shopping, email and social networks. Shoppers are also advised to closely monitor credit cards and bank statements for unknown or fraudulent transactions.

Hohenfels Car Care Center New Hours as of 1 June The Hohenfels Car Care Center and Gas Station will have new hours starting 1 June. Monday thru Friday: 7 am to 7 pm and Saturday/Sunday: 8 am to 5 pm. Customers will now have the opportunity to shop inside the Car Care for automotive needs as well as fuel their POVs all during the same hours.

Tower Barracks Main Store Couponers Corner The Tower Barracks Main Store has a special corner in the customer service area for those that like to use coupons. Exchange Main Store Manager Ed Hicks stated this has been a big hit with the community. The corner provides coupons and information to help customers understand the use of coupons and how long they can be used overseas.

Tower Barracks Car Care Center to Close

The Tower Barracks Car Care Center will be closing on May 23. All your car care needs will be available at the Rose Barracks Car Care Center located in building 718, near the MWR Auto Skill Center. You can call for appointments at

09662-9741. Coming this summer at the old Tower Barracks Car Care Center, will be an Auto Detailing Concessions. Customers have asked for this for assisting in shipping their POVs and a place to have their auto’s detailed during their tour of duty.

Red Cross looking for CPR instructors We are looking for CPR course instructors. If you are interesting in becoming a Red Cross certified CPR/First Aid/AED course instructor, you must already have a valid CPR/FA/AED certification card and must be able to teach 3 classes over the next 12 months. Child Find:

What is child-find screening? Preschool Child Find is a developmental screening for children ages 3-5 identifying children with developmental delays or other special education needs. What is the process? A Child Find team made up of the preschool special needs service provider, speech and language pathologists and the occupational therapist screen the children for developmental delays. These free screenings take place monthly. How does it work? Parent submits the Child Find questionnaire (which they can pick up in the office or find on the school website); they are set up with an appointment for the screening. When they come in for the screening the child must first pass a vision and hearing screen by our school nurse. Then they are screened by the team. If the child is suspected of having any delays the team will refer them for further formal evaluation. Why is it important? When learning challenges are identified at a young age, early intervention can help the child with learning tasks. If parents are interested, what do they need to do? They can go to the school’s website and find the link for Child Find. Under that link is a questionnaire they need to fill out and email back to the email address provided on the form. Christi Himmelfahrt / Ascension Day = German holiday 29 May: All German stores and authorities off-post are closed, as are all on-post facilities (non-food) with a

predominantly local national workforce. 40 days after Easter Sunday, the Christians celebrate Christ's ascension as Corpus Christi Day. It is one of the oldest Christian fests, the day was already celebrated in 400 A.D. A more recent tradition was the custom of pulling a statue of Christ on a rope up in the air and through a hole in the ceiling, mimicking Christ's ascendance. For safety reasons this custom was prohibited in 1965 and has become forgotten since. But not forgotten are the German fathers: in order to give them something equivalent to Mother's Day, the German authorities decided to assign their Father's Day to Ascension Day. Traditional Father's Day activities include riding the bicycle or taking a long walk with the whole family, taking care and entertaining one's Godson, or simply going to a Stammtisch (men meeting regularly at a specially reserved table at a guesthouse). Many also rent a carriage, drawn either by horses or a tractor, and have a good ol' party on it. Occasionally you also see the traditional version of groups of guys walking to a cottage or another party location, pulling behind them a handcart with caskets of beer.

Aside from the standard Franconian Bratwürste - i.e. from Nürnberg, Bayreuth, Hof and Coburg - you will find new creations like an Apple & Herbs Bratwurst, a Chocolate-Chili Bratwurst, a Roasted Onions Bratwurst, or

a Red Hot Chili Bratwurst. And many more! Everyone is invited to sample and judge the sausages as they are grilled fresh in the various stalls. A must if you love Bratwurst!

Beer Fest: Bergkirchweih 5 June – 16 June: in 91054 Erlangen, Bergstraße / An den Kellern (between Nürnberg and Bamberg). Open daily 10

a.m. – 11 p.m. and on Sunday’s 11a .m – 11 p.m. The most popular fest in Erlangen! Don’t miss the funfair rides and the obligatory beer. Tapping of the first keg is on Friday at 17:00. A large car park is located at Parkplatzstraße (surrounded by Friedrich-List-Straße / B2240, and Münchener Straße). This is directly opposite the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and only yards away from the Altstadt (city center), the Schloss (mansion), and the Botanic Garden.

"Good Fairy" Campaign for Children 6 June: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., in 92637 Weiden, all around the historical city hall in the Altstadt = old city. The goal of this

campaign is to get children to know and trust the emergency services. They need to feel safe when they see a police officer, a doctor, or a fire fighter. Therefore, the Polizei, the Weiden fire brigade, the Bavarian Red Cross and the THW (technical relief) will be at the historic Rathaus (city hall) with their equipment and their vehicles. The children will be shown what kind of help they will get from these institutions. Stores with a "Good Fairy" logo are trained to provide first aid in case anyone ever gets hurt. New Orleans Festival 6-8 June: in 90762 Fürth, at the Fürther Freiheit (10 km / 6 miles west of Nürnberg). A little bit of the Southern State's

flair is lighting up Fürth's atmosphere this weekend. Several live bands will entertain you while you're enjoying your delicious Cajun food (or at least a German attempt at it). FYI: most Germans shy away from really hot food and restaurateurs usually accommodate this, so you may need to add some spicy sauces (which should be available) to make their attempt at Cajun food more authentic. It is highly recommended you use their public transport system: Best use the Park-and-Ride car park "Hardhöhe" along Solderstraße / Gaußstraße. From here, the U-Bahn (underground) will take you to the city center in just four minutes. Exit either at "Rathaus“ or "Fürth Hauptbahnhof“. The P+R car park has 78 spaces, 2 of which are for handicapped; If you park there between 06:00 and 18:00, you will not be charged for the first four hours. Parking in excess of four hours costs 1.50 Euros total for the whole day ("Tagespauschale"). You can reach the P+R car park from the B8 (Würzburger Straße) when you drive in the "Stadtmitte" (city center) direction, then turn right at Soldnerstraße and continue to corner Gaußstraße.

Funfair: Volksfest – Pfingstdult 6 – 15 June: in 92224 Amberg at the Dultplatz on Bruno-Hofer-Straße. The grand opening begins at 5:30 p.m. with

music and Freibier (you all know what that is, right?) at the Schiffbrücke bridge downtown Amberg. At 6:30 p.m., the traditional "Braufahrt" (boat trip) sets off towards the Dultplatz. At 8 p.m., the first keg will be tapped in the fest tent. A small car park is on the other side of Bruno-Hofer-Straße (south of the fest site) but it is easier if you park on the large Siemens car park along Georg-Hillbenz-Straße. Alternatively, you can park at the Eishalle (ice-skating rink) at Am Schanzl 1, or a little further down the road (i.e. closer to the fest site) at the tennis court, Am Schanzl 5.

KINGZ Motorcycle Club Innagural Poker Run 14 June: Registration from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Tierheimstrasse 1, 92289 Ursensollen (Amberg-Sluzbach).
