WORKING TO SERVE YOU BETTER – Dennis Turner works at the fitness center on Tower Barracks. This North Carolina native, former drill sergeant and father of three, retired from the U.S. Army in 1991. He was on patrol when the Berlin wall came down and served in Operation Desert Storm, among many other things. “I don’t really know what civilian life is,” he says. “I joined the military when I was 17 years old. I say once a Soldier, always a Soldier.” A main concern of his is the safety and well-being of the patrons at the fitness center: “I am a care taker—this is your gym,” he says, to whom obeying the gym rules equals taking care of everyone’s safety and health. He aspires to help Soldiers and their families with the knowledge he acquired throughout his career. “First you need to identify the beauty in yourself. I will help you get fit or fitter,” adding that “at the end of the day, the question is, How did I make somebody’s day?” Thank-you Mr. Turner for your service! You make our community stronger.
