President It is one of the basic manners most of us are taughtas young children, and that is to respect the views ofothers. Related to that is the Golden Rule or ethic ofreciprocity, which simply means to treat others as youwould like others to treat you. Apparently the an -hun ng crowd was absent the day these measures ofbasic respect for others was taught because they seem

to think it is okay to ridicule, taunt and even threatenthose who have decided to include legal and ethicalhun ng as part of their lifestyle.

As you have undoubtedly seen on na onal newsoutlets and will read in this issue of SportsmensMonthly, law-abiding hunters are under a ack andit is happening at an unprecedented level. Most ofthe assaults originate from behind a keyboard withFacebook proving to be the bloodiest ba le eld. Themost vicious of these a acks are leveled at women

who just happen to represent the biggest growth areain hun ng par cipa on, a fact that clearly does not sitwell with the an s. Many of the insults are so hideousthat they make adults want to turn away, and thethought of young people seeing it is unse ling.

As the countrys only organiza on with the sole mission

to protect hun ng, shing and trapping, USSA is takinga leadership role in not only protec ng hunters, butpromo ng the great work done on the backs of theoutdoor community for the be erment of wildlife. This e ort is being coordinated with a number of keyconserva on organiza ons as well as individuals whohave been vic ms of cyber bullying or have a uniqueperspec ve of the issue. SportsmenPREVAILin WisconsinWolf Lawsuit

    Sportsmens Monthly July 2014

On July 10, 2014, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals ruled infavor of sportsmen and the Wisconsin Department ofNatural Resources (DNR) on a long-running lawsuit over theuse of dogs in the states wolf hunt.

In January 2013, USSA Founda on and our partners prevailedwhen Dane County Circuit Court Judge Peter Anderson issueda ruling that paved the way for wolf hun ng with dogs.Unhappy with the outcome, a coali on of Wisconsin humanesocie es and other plain s appealed the ruling. While the2013 decision was posi ve for sportsmen overall, it did raiseconcerns by declaring the DNRs rules for training dogs to huntwolves invalid.

In early July, the Court of Appeals issued itsruling, sta ng that not only are dogs allowedin the wolf hunt, but that hunters could alsotrain their dogs to hunt wolves.

This is a clear and decisive victory forsportsmen and the wildlife managementprocess, said Nick Pinizzo o, USSA presidentand CEO. Were extremely pleased that the

Court of Appeals sided with sportsmen andwill allow hunters to train their dogs to huntwolves. This sets an important precedentacknowledging that pre-exis ng rights to huntand sh should con nue unless those rightsare speci cally limited by laws or regula ons.

Joining USSA Founda on in support of theWisconsin DNR was Safari Club Interna onal, the Wisconsin Bear Hunters Associa on andUnited Sportsmen of Wisconsin.
