PharmacoEconomics & Outcomes News 562 - 20 Sep 2008 US parents still not joining the dots over vaccine safety, says CDC Despite national immunisation rates remaining at record high levels, recent outbreaks of measles in the US demonstrate that growing pockets of people across the country are refusing vaccines due in part to unsubstantiated fears about vaccine safety, according to the latest results from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s * National Immunization Survey. So far this year, 131 children have contracted measles; 91% of these children were not vaccinated. Executive director of Every Child By Two Amy Pisani comments that "the MMR question has now been asked and answered, over 20 times". She goes on to say that "the MMR vaccine does not cause autism", and that "our children are at serious risk of contracting devastating, but wholly preventable, diseases".
