Upcoming Events From the PrincipalDear Parents

It is an absolute pleasure to spend every day at Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School. Each morning I am so pleased to be greeted by students and I truly feel warmly welcomed by students, staff and parents alike into this new, exciting and inspirational learning environment.

A successful education is about the three R’s and in 2014 these are Relationships, Resilience and Responsibility. The students at Lindisfarne evidence significant academic achievements on a daily basis. The stars of tomorrow will be our students who:

• Accept responsibility for their own behaviour and not blame others• Are able to empathise with others• See difficulties as a challenge and not an obstacle• Are confident in a range of social situations• Are flexible and adapt to a constantly changing world• Relate to people from a diverse range of backgrounds, abilities and interests• And are determined to never give up and have a go and persevere until they are

successful.Andrew Fuller, an educational psychologist, stresses the importance of reliance. He also stresses the importance of the five C’s:

I am grateful for the opportunity to be the educational leader of the most highly regarded private school in this area.

Primary NewsLife EducationThe Life Education Program will begin on 30 July. Students from Preschool (Possums and Koalas) to Year 6 will participate in the program. The program is a valuable learning experience and covers many important health and lifestyle issues appropriate to each year level. The cost of this program is $9.00 per child and this will be added to the supplementary fee account for Term 3.

NED Visiting PerformanceWe are very lucky to have the NED show visiting us once again at Sunshine Avenue next week. The show is the most popular assembly program in Australia and over 2.5 million children will see the show worldwide. The message the show hopes to deliver to the children is to ‘Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best’. An order form will be sent home next Thursday if children wish to purchase a NED Yo-Yo.

Dream DayOur Dream Day will be held again this year on Friday 15 August. All students are asked to come dressed in what they would like to be when they grow up. The day will raise funds for the Isabella and Marcus Foundation and children are asked to bring a gold coin donation for this worthy cause.

This year we are inviting any interested parents who would like to run a “Masterclass” with a small group of children to be a part of the day. If you have any special talents such as dancing, craft, drama etc and would be prepared to offer one hour of your time it would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested please email Jodie Duggan at [email protected] by Wednesday 30 July.

Lindisfarne Ski Trip38 keen students and 5 equally keen teachers left at 4:00pm on Saturday 19 July for the long bus ride to Jindabyne. We reached the snow ready for an afternoon ski on Sunday. The

following days consisted of an early 6:00am wake up call, 30 minute bus trip to the snow, a two-hour lesson and the

rest of the day skiing and boarding. We experienced amazing conditions with it snowing on the last couple

of days. Thanks to the staff (Mrs Wright, Mr Leach, Mrs Bedford, Ms Spring, Mr Bedford) and the

students involved in making the trip enjoyable and memorable for all.

Music NewsInstrumental LessonsPrivate and group lessons are available at Lindisfarne through our visiting instrumental specialists. Lessons are 30 minutes long and take place on a rotation roster to ensure that students who come out of class to attend their lessons don’t miss the same subject lesson each week. Timetables for lessons are posted on studio windows at the beginning of each term.

Our visiting specialists are experienced and encourage students to achieve their best, either through popular or classical styles. Students are encouraged to complete AMEB and Trinity examinations once they have attained suitable levels.

If you are interested in your child learning strings, woodwind, brass, piano, drums, singing or piano and would like more information, please feel free to contact Tina Ross at the Sunshine Avenue Campus or Lucie Schuricht at the Mahers Lane Campus. Alternately you may wish to contact the studio teacher directly. Their contact numbers are listed above.

String PlayersWe are very pleased to announce that Ms Sophie Mathison, our visiting string specialist, will be conducting the Senior String Ensemble at Mahers Lane. The ensemble is open to all interested string players from Year 5 to Year 12 and is a wonderful environment for young players to practise their skills. The ensemble rehearses from 7:30am to 8:30 am every Monday morning in the music room. Please see Ms

Schuricht or Ms Mathison if you are interested in finding out more.

Performing Arts NewsEmily Rigby in Jesus Christ SuperstarCongratulations to Emily Rigby who during the last weeks of Term 2 and during the holidays, performed in the Gold Coast Arts Centre’s Jesus Christ Superstar. She was one of the principal dancers. Emily summed-up her experience: “I recently secured a major role in the Gold Coast Arts Centre production of Jesus Christ Superstar. I was luckily selected after an extensive auditioning process as one of only twelve dancers, out of more than fifty who auditioned, in the most expensive production ever staged at the Arts Centre. We rehearsed intensely most week nights and weekends for six weeks. It was produced by the director of ‘Wicked’ and ‘The Boy From Oz’. The season ran over several performances and received rave reviews. I was so proud to be a part of such an amazing show!”

Emily pictured above in the back row and first on the left.

Good Luck to HSC Dance StudentsGood luck to Isabella Padget, Ashleigh Pettet and Emily Rigby who have their HSC Dance practical examination on 17 August. They will be dancing their Core and Major Performances with Eleisha Outridge, Poppy Fox and Frazer Crane dancing their choreographed pieces.

HSIE Faculty NewsYear 10 Subject Selections OccurringIt was lovely to meet many parents at this week’s subject selection evening for students commencing Year 11 in 2015. The Faculty of Human Society and Its Environment offers the HSC subjects of Business Studies, Economics, Geography, Legal Studies and Studies of Religion. Parents are welcome to make contact with me to further discuss what each HSIE Faculty course covers.

Legal Studies ExcursionRecently, our Year 11 and 12 Legal Studies students visited Southport Local Court and viewed cases relating to drugs, domestic issues and traffic offences. This excursion complemented their studies of how laws are made and interpreted by the judicial system and the types of punishments imposed. Thanks are extended to Mr Christian and Mrs Whiticker who accompanied our students.
