Those who have s tud ied learn ing processes throughout the ages, beginn ing wi th Plato, have emphasised the impor tance of foster ing an understanding and love of the ar ts in the educat ion process both in and outs ide the formal c lassroom envi ronment .

The Creat ive and Per forming Ar ts program at L ind is farne not on ly caters for the s tudent whom has e lected to s tudy e i ther Drama, Dance, Music , and/or the Visual Ar ts but a lso for those who have chosen to focus the i r learn ing e lsewhere. There are oppor tun i t ies to jo in ensembles and to fur ther the i r learn ing through the process of ind iv idual tu tor ing in the i r chosen d isc ip l ine. A l l s tudents have the oppor tun i ty to exper ience apprec iat ing the ar ts by at tending any of the events l is ted in th is booklet .

Years of research shows that an effect ive educat ion in the ar ts is c losely l inked to a lmost everyth ing we as a nat ion want for our ch i ldren; academic achievement , soc ia l and emot ional development , communi ty engagement and equal oppor tun i ty. L i fe Drawing Workshops are des igned for Years 11 and 12 Visual Ar ts s tudents to develop an understanding of the fundamenta ls o f the human form, how c lo th ing, gesture and body language in form character and in tent and how to “breathe l i fe” in to the i r f igures. Drawing is a form of express ion. Through observ ing the human form, s tudents are guided to develop prof ic iency in drawing wi th a var ie ty o f ar t mater ia ls explor ing pos i t ive and negat ive space.

Gnass has taught a t Disney s ince 1995, as wel l as DreamWorks Animat ion, Sony Pic tures Imageworks and Nickelodeon, among others. “You can’ t ach ieve dynamics wi thout bones and s t ructure, and in order to have s t ructure you need to s tudy i t . From there one can extend out in any d i rect ion towards any s ty le . ”

LIFE DRAWING WORKSHOP

The Studio Record ing Pro ject #2 is the second a lbum recorded in the newly establ ished L ind is farne Record ing Studios. This fac i l i ty is cent ra l to the rea l isat ion of the contemporary v is ion in teaching and learn ing programs and wi l l have major impacts in both curr icu lar and co-curr icu lar act iv i t ies . Students wi l l apply and be se lected by a panel . Successfu l appl icants wi l l work in co l laborat ion wi th profess ional music producers and s tud io engineers to complete an a lbum where a l l prof i ts wi l l be donated to the se lected char i ty o f the s tud io. Year 8 Visual Ar ts s tudents v is i t the Margaret Ol ley Ar t Centre at the Tweed River Ar t Gal lery as par t o f the Ar t is t@Work program in Term 4. Students manipulate mixed media techniques responding to the theme of s t i l l l i fe and representat ion.

The excurs ion prov ides s tudents wi th the oppor tun i ty to consider why ar t is ts create s t i l l l i fe ar tworks through ce lebrat ing the career, l i fe and legacy of Margaret Ol ley, Aust ra l ia ’s most ce lebrated painter o f s t i l l l i fe and in ter iors .

The Centre is insp i ra t ional for s tudent in develop ing the i r understanding and apprec iat ion of ar t pract ice. I t recreates features of the or ig ina l archi tectura l e lements of Ol ley ’s home stud io, inc lud ing windows and doors and the in ter iors f i l led wi th over 20,000 i tems that Ol ley co l lected over many years as subject mat ter for her pa int ings.

Budding ar t is ts between the ages of 5 and 18 are inv i ted to submi t a por t ra i t for the Ar t Gal lery of NSW’s Young Archie compet i t ion, as par t of the fami ly- focused act iv i t ies for the Arch iba ld, Wynne and Sulman Pr izes exhib i t ion. The por t ra i t is to be of a person who is spec ia l to students – someone who is known to them and p lays a s ign i f icant ro le in the i r l i fe .

There are four age categor ies: 5-8 year o lds, 9-12 year o lds, 13-15 year o lds and 16-18 year o lds. F ive f ina l is ts f rom each category wi l l be exhib i ted at the Gal lery and on the Gal lery websi te . One winner wi l l be chosen in each category.

Each s tudent works wi th in a smal l ensemble co l laborat ing, wr i t ing and per forming a wor ld premiere of the i r or ig ina l composi t ion for the i r end of year assessment .

The bands bat t le i t out for the u l t imate g lory of be ing named the 2016 Year 8 Band of the Year and to have the oppor tun i ty to record the i r t rack in the L ind is farne Record ing Studio.

The co-curr icu lar program prov ides oppor tun i t ies for s tudents on both Sunshine Avenue and Mahers Lane campuses to develop the sk i l ls in the i r respect ive d isc ip l ines and a lso to work co l laborat ive ly which is a v i ta l par t o f any successfu l group per formance.

Ensembles are des igned to meet the needs of s tudents wi th vary ing leve ls of exper ience and abi l i ty ra ther than being based on age. A l l s tudents who learn an inst rument are encouraged to jo in an ensemble where regular a t tendance is a g iven. There is no cost for these co-curr icu lar act iv i t ies .
