I think my “All About Me” spread from the begin-ning of the year was by far on of my best works I’ve done in Panther Tails. Becuase i have yearbook experience (as layout editor) it was an easy task. I think some of my stregnths shine in this assign-ment such as my creativity and organizational skills. My pictures ( before being transported) are clear, great quality and fun. I also have put in inspiring quotes that match well with the spread and photos that i got from peers. My mod is a great aspect of this spread that shows my skills. It is a creative and fun mod that includes a cut out and cute qoutes. I even added Copy, photo, and caption creds and folio.

Playing for a Cause

This October the JV football team showed their spirit and support for Breast Can-cer Awareness Month. During that time of the year, the team showed off their spirit for a great cause. “It is our favorite time of the season.” said Bryce Jenkins(10), football player.

“The team always really gets into it.” said their coach, Morris Harris. The coaches and fans this season enjoyed seeing the team so supportive of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “It was great to see our boys so passionate about supporting this cause.” said harris

Not only was it a pleasure for all to see the team spirited for this cause, but it also showed a difference in the game. “You could really see a difference in the way they played,” said Harris “its great to see these boys so passionate about this cause.” The JV football team had a great season this year, 5-1. Coincidentally, they won all of their Octo-ber games.

The coaches and fans not only loved the way the team played, but also enjoyed how they showed off their spirit for this cause. “They best part is dressing up in pink.” said David Scroggins(10), football player. At the games, the team’s black and gold attire is highlighted with pink duct tape, athletic tape, stickers, towels, paint, socks, laces and more. “Everyone loves doing it and our fans love it. Even the cheerleaders get in on it.” said Scroggins.

It was difficult to get this picture becuase during the jv games i am cheering on the side lines and not allowed to be anywhere else. I got off for 1/2 a quater in order to get pictures for this beat. Becuase it was such a great game for the team a got photos that really put you in the moment.

This beat was written in a different style becuase it didnt focus on one game but focused on the whole month of october . It was a fun and meaningful beat to write becuase the players and coaches are so passionate about breast cancer awareness month. I think this topic was a great one to pick becuase it really captures the team in a different way. It was difficult what exactly to write about regarding breast cancer awareness month for the jv team. As i started asking around for qoutes i got a better idea. My type of voice is on point.

Eighteen members of the JV football team were called up to varsity this year after a successful season; more members than most years. Although it is considered an honor to be called up to varsity from JV, most call-ups agree that the switch was equally rewarding as it was difficult. «Call-ups are considered as more of a practice squad rather than a full part of the team. But in some cases a couple of us dress,» former JV football captain, Bryce Jenkins (10), said., “It was a great way to be prepared for next season and increased our skills to make us better players,” Jenkins said. The call-ups haven›t had a break from the rigor of their previous season. “The most challenging part was adjusting the pace, and the increase in skill and size of other players.” David Scroggins (10) said. Varsity practices were more up-beat and complex than those of JV. “They moved quicker and the drills were different. We also did a lot of team periods.” Scroggins said., “Practices were very rigorous. They were more up beat, more tiring, and I felt like I was always on the field.” Most call-ups agree that being called up to varsity was an honor and an overall great experience. «One of the best parts was being part of it all. For me I was accepted pretty quick and I got along with the older kids well,» Jenkins said. While they are training hard for next season, the call-ups are making memories that are unforgettable. This experience is pumping them up for next year. “The best memory I’ve had so far on the team is playing in the game. It was a great experience to be able to actually play in the game along side my teammates.” Kyle Pilliner (10) said., “I can not wait until next year’s season.”

This beat was sorta of a different topic that i had done in the past because jv season was over but i got one more beat out of JV football becuase some of the member had been called up to varsity. I think i did a pretty good job in getting great quotes to help the beat become alive but i had a sentence were i accidentally used passive voice instead of active voice. I need to work on my grammar and the way i word my sentences in order to improve my beat skills.

This photo was taken during one of the last game of the football season after the JV callups had been called-up to the team. toward the end of the game they let the call ups play and during 4th quater on a typical friday night this photo was taken of one of the call ups. It was sorta difficult to get pple to move so i could take this picture but i got it in the heat of the moment as the rivals fought to get the ball.

This photo is one of the photos i edited from the first beat i had done. To give it a suttle but artsy effect i blurred out the background so that way you could focus on the players. Now the really stand out and gives it an interest-ing flare. It took awhile for me to figure out how to blur without burring the players. I think i did a very nice job for my first time blurring out which inhaced the players making them stand out.

“The Plant’s 2014 JV football team has started off to a great start with an undefeated season.” says the captain of the JV football team, Bryce Jenkins, 10. He expects an undefeated season like in the previous years.

Bryce and the rest of the JV team have to ensure intense practices 6 times a week. “Yes, the work is worth it. It pays off.”

“Practices are fun but intense depending on the day and your grades.” Bryce explains. Conduct and grades are valued immensely by the team and coaches.

Even though they are a undefeated team this year and in previous years they never settle. They work harder and become even better. “Our offense just needs some work and could be a little more prepared.” Ex-plains the captain.

When Bryce found out he was a captain he was very surprised. “Linemen don’t usually get chosen as captain.” He enjoys being team captain along with his co-captains; Drew Miller, 10, Kyle Pilliner, 10, and Judge Culpeper, 9.

“Advantages? Yes, you get more respect. You also get to walk on the field before the game.” Bryce says. But there are disadvantages. “You have to be a leader at all times and if you slack if you get yelled at.”

Some of the players favorite part about the team is the team spirit and comradery. “What makes us like no other team is the close bond and brotherhood of the team.” Says Garrett Spicola, 10, a friend of Bryce on the team. Bryce agrees, “the best part about our team is the comradery and hanging out with the squad.”

Another part of being on the team that that the football players enjoy is the immense school spirit at the games. “The cheerleaders are great.” Says Bryce. “They help make the games more fun to be at and watch.”

This beat was my first beat i have written in my Panther Tails career. I think i did a pretty good job in not using passive voice but instead using active voice. I was really sure of what was expected due to the looseness of our first beat but i definitely see what i needed to improve on. I need to put “said” after the person that was quoted instead of before and using “says” or “explians”. Also i needed to put the grade in “()”. I think i did a wonderful job getting a variety of great quotes.

Getting this photo was difficult becuase i had to get one some else to take the pictures because i was on the mat. i quickly taught them how to use th camera but it didnt come ouut as high of qualtity as i wouldve liked which was a disadvantage. I think this picture shows the teams great school spirit and captures them in a interesting part of the routine.

Our competitive cheer team cheered on our school with “outstanding spirit” said Coach Steele, cheer coach, on December 11th, 2014 at Leto High School. Although they did not rank, it is considered to be “one of [their] best performances.” said Leslie Lattner (11).

Tension was in the air as the team faced their third competition of the year. Some of their biggest rivals competed against them that night. They faced Durant High School who had won the past two competitions. “Our biggest rival was definitely Durante. They have a really good squad and are tough to compete with.” Said Allison Daley (11).

A disadvantage for the girls was that there coincidentally was a cold front that night. The high was 50 degrees. Cheering in this kind of weather makes competing tougher and considered to be somewhat danger-ous. “It was so cold that night,” said Olivia Brock (9) “you could tell it was going to be a tough night.”

Despite the intimidation of the competition and the weather conditions, the girls performed their best that night. “Our girls received their highest score they’ve gotten this season.” said Coach Steele “We may have gotten seventh place but we faced tougher teams and by far was our hardest competition.”

The girls of the competitive cheer team were content with themselves because it was their best perfor-mance. “It was definitely one of our most nerve racking competitions but it was a fun bus ride home because we were proud of ourselves for improving our scores.” said Daley.

I enjoyed writing this beat becuase not only am i on the competetive cheer team but it was a great way to change topics which was a difficult switch in the beginning. Becuase i have experience in cheer it became an easier. That night it was difficult to take pictures because i had to get some one else to take the photos. The writing part was easier becuase it was easier to get quotes from my own teammates and coach. Im not sure if i totallyused active voice but i think overall it was a very intriuging beat.

This logo wasnt my best work this year. i think because it was my first time making a logo and and our first assignment i wasnt sure what was exactly expected or how to use the logo maker. It definitely could use some work; i couldve made it neater and more creative. Now that i look back on it on my logo i shouldve made it more creative. I went for a simplistic logo that’d be easy to dentify because before this projet when we looked at other logos from companys we determined that sometimes a simple logo is better then a complex one. I think i made it too simplstic. I eventually got better at using photoshop through out the year so i learned from my mistakes.
