WHAT IS FORMULA SAE AT UMD?
UMD Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) is a diverse array of highly motivated Mechanical and Industrial engineering students at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). Our goal is to design, construct, and test a Formula 1 style racecar in order to compete in the annual nationwide Formula SAE competition. It is our intention to build a racecar that demonstrates each student’s diverse talents and commitment. We plan to enter our first competition in May 2008 and establish a tradition of UMD’s annual participation and a dedication to excellence in the FSAE (Formula Society of Automotive Engineers) competition. The competition presents students with the opportunity to enhance their engineering skills and gain valuable experience.
WHAT IS FORMULA SAE?
The Formula SAE® competition is for SAE student members to conceive, design, fabricate, and compete with small formula-style racing cars. The restrictions on the car frame and engine are limited so that the knowledge, creativity, and imagination of the students are challenged. The cars are built with
a team effort over a period of about one year and are taken to the annual competition for judging and comparison with approximately 120 other vehicles from colleges and universities throughout the world. The end result is a great experience for young engineers in a meaningful engineering project as well as the opportunity of working in a dedicated team effort (FSAE 2007).

BENEFITS OF SPONSORSHIP
In addition to the levels of sponsorship listed below, there are many other benefits of sponsoring UMD FSAE. Some of the additional benefits include: tax deduction for all donations to our program; every student that works with the UMD Formula SAE team will become familiar with your company and products; and the added exposure of your company will lead to future customers, and even experienced and talented employees. The UMD Formula SAE team is a non-profit organization that is run on a minimal budget. Your donation is an investment in everyone’s future, because the future engineers that will change our world are in the Formula SAE challenge. Your contribution is fueling the engineers of tomorrow to learn and excel in applied technology. Without your contribution many opportunities might otherwise not be available to our ambitious team members. Thanks to your investment UMD’s engineers of tomorrow will be able to use new and ingenious means to discover and innovate.
