The University of Chester had acquired the site of the Shell Technology Centre at Thornton, Cheshire in 2013. They required the design and supply of new furniture for the new Thornton Research Centre, with installation due to take place in March and April.

The newly refurbished buildings were to offer offices, meeting and training rooms, flexible spaces, communal laboratories, and break out and rest areas for new startups and SME businesses in the Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive, Engineering and Environmental sectors. The selected furniture had to have a modern feel, with a corporate level of finish, and with a higher specification in the reception areas than the offices. The offices needed to be flexible and versatile to allow new layouts in the future.

Flexiform won the contract to provide office furniture for all offices within Building 90, and complied with the CCS specification agreement RM 1501. Flexiform presented designs for the soft furniture required within the reception area and had to illustrate that both CCS and reception furniture were fit for purpose and offered value for money to fulfill the University’s brief. We also won lots one and two for installation in March.

Within the offices we used Jot32 single desks, which were configured in both back-to-back and side-to-side arrangements. This gave similar benefits to other Jot32 desk options but kept the desired flexibility for the future.

How do you feel about the recent design and space planning process for the furniture installation at Thornton Science Park? Flexiform provided the university with excellent space planning options, and designs which fulfilled and exceeded our expectations and brief.

How do you feel about the selected furniture that has been installed in Thornton Science Park? Did it fulfill your requirements? The furniture selected was exciting and vibrant – the perfect selection for our commercial clients. Flexiform worked closely with the University to deliver and design practical solutions suitable for our spatial environments.

How do you feel Flexiform performed during the overall project, from tender through to completion? The whole process was exceptional, and this was down to a great team effort by everyone involved at Flexiform. The installation demonstrated quality products, coordination pre and post-installation, and effective communication from inception through to completion.

Jot 32 Single DeskJot 32 single desk benches have a built in modesty panel, and can be easily configured as single desks, side-to-side desks, and back-to back-desks. They have sliding tops to access cable management below.

Away from the DeskWith Flexiform’s in-house design and space planning team, we can use both our products and our suppliers’ products to create a number of options. The client is given a number of visuals to help provide a better idea of the space.

Desk mounted ScreenOur desk-mounted screens are available in plexiglass, fabric, and polycarbonate, which was the option chosen by University of Chester). The screens have a satin anodised silver finish. Accessories are available to keep desks tidy.

Addition Poseur TableOur Additions range includes various shapes, sizes, leg finishes and heights of table for every scenario. These poseur heights are ideal for café and meeting areas.

PedestalOur pedestals offer staff secure private storage for personal items or filing. With pen trays and dividers available, it can keep desks neat and improve efficiency.
