COURSE AIMS

Communication has become one of the essential strategic factors for the innovation and the posi-tioning of enterprises and institutions. The designer is responsible for formalizing the strategic policies of the organizations.Amongst the main objectives of the MUDIC, we can find:•Giving knowledge and abilities for the communi-

cation strategies and/or the project processes of design.

•Providing students with theoretical and practical tools to develop creative, seduction and persua-sion capacities, and also their competence for the critical analysis and the team direction.

•Adding items related to research to the student’s training profile, something typical of postgraduate studies, which enables the student to carry out third- cycle studies.

•Experimenting through new languages supports and means with the objective of going into detail about the applications of the current scenes of design and communication.

CONTENTS

Design is a language that is able to prefigure and configure. Both relevant actions help establish the sequentiality of the contents. Since the beginning, different prefiguration activities are carried out: the familiarity with the communication environment, the design tools, the functioning of communication,

The MUDIC, the University Master’s De-gree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Design and Communication gives access to a doctor-ate programme. the official master’s Degree programmes give access to the doctorate, which corresponds to the third and last cy-cle of superior education whose objective is providing an advanced training for research techniques. once the programme is com-pleted, the students who want to access to the third cycle will have to meet the require-ments established by the corresponding uni-versity. the muDIC is part of the offer of of-ficial postgraduate programmes of pompeu Fabra university. It has 60 eCtS credits that, once completed, lead to the obtaining of an official degree.

the master’s Degree provides professionals and researchers with the necessary compe-tences for the development of multi-platform applications training of the communicator and the designer to conceive communica-tion strategies and to formalise messages efficiently.

the master’s Degree in structured into eCtS Credits (european Credit transfer and Accu-mulation System), where one credit is equiva-lent to 25-30 hours of student’s work. these hours include the theoretical and practical in-class lessons, the personal time of dedica-tion, the participation in seminars, the realisa-tion of projects and presentation and evalua-tion tests. the teaching activity is carried out from monday to Friday from 5 to 9.15pm

These first months of MUDIC have meant a design process itself, where I have had to test my creativity and combine it with communica-tion strategies. Additionally, it has also been an instance of inspiration, we have great teachers who have swept us off our feet with different theories, thoughts and projects carried out that have to do with all that surrounds us.

The group of people with whom I share the MU-DIC is very creative. Sharing the lessons with people related to art, advertising, architecture and design has meant a very enriching and new experience for me. A great MUDIC team has been built and it has already left its mark, and there is still a lot to learn.

the needs of the twenty-first century society and the analysis devices and strategies which make it possible to focus and communicate with a concrete public. The objective consists of providing resources which will be used in the subsequent phase to solve a problem.

The other important item, the configuration, includes a more practical part of the project. Through one proposal which agrees with the project reality, the student will have to give a response to the premises detected in the previous phase, the prefiguration phase. To sum up, the student will have to be able to carry out a project planned by himself or assigned, autonomously and with criteria.

The Study Plan has been carried out according to one of the conceptual pillars in which design has different tools to organise ideas and resources in order to communicate them. Additionally, we must understand what communication is and the context in which it moves, adding our view and our way of thinking through design. One of the main keys of our course is the transversality between the design disci-plines and communication. As a specific element, we incorporate the user in all the stages of the design process, since the initial ones, even before estab-lishing the briefing, so that he is not just an “actor” who appears in the final stages of the process.

METHODOLOGY

Studying this Master’s Degree means achieving an advanced education in a professional and academic specialization. The course is structured in three contents blocks that take into account the teaching dynamics: during the first quarter, it gives response to the students’ needs to know, understand and comprehend. During the second quarter, the ones related to developing and applying and, during the third quarter, the needs that have to do with research, proposing and solving.

The MUDIC combines the following educational activities: lectures, seminars, theoretical-practical projects, experimental workshops, monitored work and independent work. The projects are developed in groups or individually, depending on the subject and on the competences that the student has to prove he has learnt through the learning results. For each subject, a theoretical and/or practical project must be carried out with its subsequent presentation, taking into account the premises specified in the syllabus of the subject.

MASTER FINAL'S PROJECT(MFP)

The MFP consists of the development of a research memory and/or a project to be applied in the area of design, communication and related subjects. The MFP has the objective of showing the intellectual maturity and the research and projectual capacity of the student. The project must be original, the result of the student’s personal work under the monitoring and orientation of his tutors. This is the last academic project, in which all the knowledge acquired along the Master’s Degree is ratified. That is why a set of competences must be covered, including: the basic and the specific ones that are foreseen for the compulsory subjects. The elaboration of the MFP is completely individual.

The profile of the participating teachers is in harmony with the course conceptual blocks. The humanist/research profile that takes part with priority at the begin-ning and increasingly decreases. The draughtsman/developer profile, which appears in a flexible way and progressively expands its dedication. The specialist/technical profile, which appears in the middle of the project and increasingly extends its implementation as the project is more defined. The fourth profile, the methodological one, which takes part in each one of the project stages, is a transversal profile.
