What does it mean to be unique?-We may forget this and that could lead us to think that everyone will think/act/be the same as us, but that is not true and diversity is not a bad thing.

-Unique: There is nobody exactly like you, you are your own person, incomparable to others. Stand out in your own way!

-I’m unique because: I play baseball, I’m a trumpet player, I’m really silly, I love cooking.

Page 4: Uniqueness Awareness Week Student Council

Why is uniqueness important?- It shows us that not everyone is exactly alike.

-Everyone has different interests/features that make us who we are.

-This lets us learn from each other and see things differently.

Page 5: Uniqueness Awareness Week Student Council

Understanding and Respecting-Understanding Differences -This is the ability to acknowledge and allow other opinions and ways of life even though they are not like yours

-Having an open mind to new things.

-Acceptance: No matter what, I respect you and I will treat you kindly

Page 6: Uniqueness Awareness Week Student Council

Bullying-Opposite of acceptance-Taking what make’s others unique and using it to put them down (physically or mentally)-Refusing to have an open mind -Thinking that their opinion/way of life is better and that people who are different are wrong

Page 7: Uniqueness Awareness Week Student Council

Different Kinds of BullyingPhysical-Actually hurting the other person Mental-Use words to make others feel worthless, although it doesn’t seem like it

Cyber -Sending hateful messages about someone onlineAccidental-Jokes/insults are taken the wrong way

Page 8: Uniqueness Awareness Week Student Council

It was just a joke-You never know how people will react to your words and cruelty is not a joke

-Why is it not OK to say these things?

-How can I stop these negative words?

Page 9: Uniqueness Awareness Week Student Council

Bullying can lead to:-Feeling like you aren’t good enough

-Feeling like everyone is against you

-Wanting to hide what makes you different

-Feeling isolated and alone-Feeling like you will never belong

Page 10: Uniqueness Awareness Week Student Council

And...These thoughts can affect a person for their whole life.
