When wearing the uniform the student is representing the College in the wider community. The way students present themselves has an impact on the College’s reputation in the community. Students need to develop the skill of presenting themselves to a particular standard. Uniform and grooming rules remove many of the peer pressures associated with dress and grooming styles. The Uniform and Grooming Policy aims to: Reflect the generally accepted community standards for young men and women of this age; Consider issues of health, hygiene and safety (hats are to be worn for all outdoor activities); Discourage peer pressures. All items of the uniform (except shoes) must be purchased from the Uniform Shop to ensure uniformity of colour, style and quality. HAIR: ALL YEAR• Student’s hair to be kept clean and well groomed.

• Hairstyles must be conventional. Students are not permitted to attend school with ‘novelty’ or ‘extreme’ hairstyles including undercuts of any kind.

• Razor cutting should be no shorter than number three.

• If hair is longer than the top of collar, falling over the face, it must be completely tied/clipped back. Hair ties and/or ribbons must be white, grey, burgundy or azure blue in colour.

• Hair must be natural colour only. Unnatural colouring or colour blending is not permitted.

• It is to be noted that, in all matters of hairstyle, the College remains the final arbiter.

JEWELLERY: ALL YEARONLY the following are permitted (see photo):

• 1 discreet watch.

• 1 discreet ring.

• A maximum of two sleepers (1cm) or studs in the lobe of each ear.

• 1 good quality fine chain with or without a discreet charm.

• A medical bracelet.

• 1 discreet bracelet or bangle.

• Body piercing (other than ear-rings) is not permitted if it is visible. This includes tongue studs.

Wearing the College Summer UniformThe College Summer Uniform is to be worn by students in Years 1-12 during Terms 1 and 4.Parents are required to phone the Head of Year (Secondary) or send a signed, dated note (Primary) to explain any deviation from this policy.

Secondary Years 7-12The Secondary Summer Uniform consists of:- grey shorts, hemlines are to be on the knee, AND- white shirt/blouse with crest (tucked in);OR- grey checked dress with crest, hemlines are to be on the knee.

Primary Years 1-6The Primary Summer Uniform consists of:- grey shorts, hemlines are to be on the knee, AND- white shirt/blouse with crest (tucked in);OR- grey checked dress with crest and white collar/cuffs, hemlines are to be on the knee.

ALL students in Years 1-12The College Summer Uniform for both Primary and Secondary also includes:- black, lace-up leather (school) shoes, in good repair, polished regularly with laces tied;- boys: grey crew socks (burgundy/white stripes) girls: white ankle/crew socks (burgundy stripes) The College hat (burgundy, with or without House colour on reverse) is to be worn during all outdoor activity.

Pre Kindy to Pre Primary (ELC)ELC students are to wear the Sports uniform daily. In summer, this consists of:- azure blue polo shirt with crest;- burgundy sports shorts OR trackpants;- burgundy zipped pullover- white ankle/crew socks (burgundy stripes)The College hat (burgundy, with or without House colour on reverse) is to be worn during all outdoor activity.

Wearing the College Winter UniformThe College Winter uniform is to be worn by students in Years 1-12 during Terms 2 and 3, and as directed for after-school functions.Parents are required to phone the Head of Year (Secondary) or send a signed, dated note (Primary) to explain any deviation from this policy.

Primary Years 1-6The Primary Winter uniform consists of:- long grey trousers, leg length just touching the top of the shoe. OR- tartan pinafore dress, hemlines are to be on the knee; AND- white shirt/blouse with crest (tucked in);

Secondary Years 7-12The Secondary Winter uniform consists of:- long grey trousers, leg length just touching the top of the shoe. Any belt worn must be black and securely fastened.OR- tartan skirt, hemlines are to be on the knee; AND- white shirt/blouse with crest (tucked in);- tie with crest: top button is done up, tie knot is taut, straight and meets the collar. (girls: blue, boys: blue/grey striped);- blazer with crest (Years 10-12).

ALL students in Years 1-12The Winter uniform for both Primary and Secondary also includes:- burgundy (crested) jumper;- black, lace-up leather (school) shoes, in good repair, polished regularly with laces tied;- boys: grey crew socks (burgundy/white stripes) girls: grey stockings (no holes or runs) OR white ankle/crew socks (burgundy stripes) If undershirts are worn, they should be plain white and not visible under the College uniform.Only the College grey scarf with blue and white stripes (below) is to be worn with the College uniform.

WINTERterms 2&3

GROOMING: ALL YEAR• Make-up and nail polish are not permitted.

• Boys need to ensure they are clean-shaven.

• Shoes should be cleaned and polished on a regular basis.

• Uniforms should be appropriately sized, clean, ironed and in a good state of repair. Buttons should not be missing and uniforms should not be frayed.

‘FREE DRESS’: ALL YEARAppropriate clothes and enclosed footwear are to be worn on any days designated ‘free dress’ or ‘casual’.

NOTE: the following are NOT permitted:

The College Sports UniformThe College Sports uniform is to be worn by students ONLY as directed below.Parents are required to phone the Head of Year (Secondary) or send a signed, dated note (Primary) to explain any deviation from this policy.

Secondary Years 7-12The Secondary Sports uniform consists of:- white polo (blue/burgundy trim) with crest;OR- white polo (House colour trim) with crest (no need to tuck in);AND- burgundy sports shorts OR trackpants;- burgundy zipped jacket (blue/white trim). Secondary students participating in Outdoor or Physical Education/Recreation, Dance or Drama lessons change into their sports uniform at the nearest break (homeroom/recess/lunch) before their lesson, and change back into their formal school uniform at the end of the lesson. They may stay in their Sports uniform ONLY if (and until) they have another of the above lessons later in the day.

The Sports uniform is NOT to be worn by Secondary students travelling to or from the College, EXCEPT when participating in ALL-DAY sport, dance or drama events.

Primary Years 1-6The Primary Sports uniform consists of:- azure blue polo shirt with crest (no need to tuck in);- burgundy sports shorts OR trackpants;- burgundy zipped pullover. Each classroom in Years 1-6 is allocated two weekly Sports Days, when students are to wear their Sports uniform.Primary students may also wear their Sports uniform on days when they have incursions or excursions as notified by the classroom teacher.

ALL students in Years 1-12The College Sports uniform for both Primary and Secondary also includes:- running shoes or cross-trainers. No casual style shoes may be worn;- white ankle/crew socks (burgundy stripes).The College Hat (burgundy, with or without House colour on reverse) is to be worn during all outdoor activity.

College Chiro Backpack compulsory for ALL students (Years 1-12)

Duffle Sports Bag compulsory only for Secondary students

(Years 7-12)

SWIMWEARCompulsory for Years 5-12Girls College Bathers may be worn with an optional burgundy crop top underneath (no other bathers to be worn), or with a rash vest and/or College board shorts over.

College Board Shorts may be worn as boys swimwear, and with a rash vest, except during Inter-School competitions.

Rash vests are not supplied by the Uniform Shop, but should be in College colours (burgundy, grey, azure, white) OR in the student’s House colour.

Primary students from Year 4 upwards who are selected to represent the College in swimming will be required to purchase either the Girls College Bathers or Boys College Swim Skins.

House Shirts are to be worn by Secondary students with the Sports uniform on House Days and at College InterHouse sport carnivals.
