UNICEF High School Clubs January 2015 End Human Trafficking Human trafficking has been likened to modern-day slavery that subjects children, women, and men to force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of commercial sexual exploitation or forced labor. To combat child trafficking, UNICEF strives to reduce factors that place children and families at risk in the first place. Here are some ways you can get involved: Check out our sample week of events for National Human Trafficking Awareness Month! Please note that you can carry out these activities through a weeklong campaign, or choose an activity you would like to carry out on its own as a separate event. Learn more by checking out the End Trafficking one pager, the toolkit, and TeachUNICEF’s lesson plans. Post the National Human Trafficking Hotline (1-888-3737-888) around your school and community. Find out how many slaves work for you at Slavery Footprint. Share this site with as many people as you can, and spread it across many social media platforms. Host a movie screening of Not My Life at your school. Facilitate a discussion on human trafficking afterwards. Organize a fundraiser to help UNICEF end child trafficking. Check out the events guide for a sample week of events you can do at your school to End Trafficking. Write a newspaper article about human trafficking for your local or school newspaper or community blog. Reporting and Reflection SurveyDeadline Extension If you haven’t already, please take a moment to fill out the mid-year Reporting and Reflection Survey! Clubs who have not completed the mid-year survey must designate one club member to do so by January 15 th , 2015. Presidential Petition Tell President Obama to maintain the U.S. Government’s annual contribution to UNICEF in 2016. The funding is critical to UNICEF’s work on child survival, maternal health, vaccines, universal education, and much more. Please share this link with your club members and spread it across many social media platforms. Water for the World Act Success The Water for the World Act was recently passed through the House and Senate and now just needs to be signed the president! Many thanks to all volunteers who petitioned for this act last year! Club Highlights Please send us your club stories so we can highlight your club! Upper Saint Clair High School hosted a petition signing for the presidential petition and encouraged over 100 students to post their photos with #EndViolence on social media, raising awareness for UNICEF’s #EndViolence campaign! Geneva High School hosted their first fundraiser where they gave out stars for $2.00 donations; each star that was given fed a malnourished child for a day. They raised a grand total of $240! El Dorado High School raised $1,385 during Trick or Treat for UNICEF, their first fundraiser! Reminders Follow us on Twitter and like our Facebook. End Human Trafficking

Human trafficking has been likened to modern-day slavery that subjects children, women, and men to force, fraud, or
