Undergraduate Majors
• Computer Science (CSCI)– Systems Option– General Option– Graphics Option– Math/Science Option
• Computer Information Systems (CINS)– Minor emphasis on Business (Business Minor)– Major emphasis on Computers

Areas of Coverage• Computer Theory• Computer Architecture• Computer Graphics• Artificial Intelligence• Programming Languages• Database and File Systems• Software Engineering• Operating Systems/Networks• Simulation
Computer Science – Math/Sci• 2 years of engineering calculus through
differential equations• 1 year and ½ of Physics• Several additional math courses – close to a
double major in math and computer science• Graduates tend to be hired at companies
where it is necessary to work on applications with engineers using calculus and physics:– Lawrence Livermore Labs– Naval Weapons Center China Lake
• Four-year plan is located at:http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/__depts/csci/documents/
CSCI_MathSci4YR20052007.pdf
Computer Science Systems/Gen• One year of calculus• One year of physics• Systems and General only differ in three
courses in the junior and senior years– Systems requires the following courses
• CSCI-520 Digital Logic Design Theory• CSCI-540 Multi User Operating Systems• CSCI-542 Systems Design
– Whereas General requires 3 Computer Science electives in their place.
• Other than the above 3 courses, there are no other differences between the systems and general options
• Most distance learning students select the General option
Computer Science Graphics
• Has the same basic structure as the Systems and General options
• The General option elective courses become Graphics courses and a couple more Applied Computer Graphics courses are added to the program
Computer Information Systems
• No engineering calculus or engineering physics is required
• Students take Survey of Calculus or Business Calculus
• Business minor is required
• Computer courses are similar to Computer Science computer courses

Associated Majors
• Computer Engineering (EECE)– Heavy Calculus/Physics– Hardware emphasis
• Management Information Systems (MINS)– Major emphasis on Business– Minor emphasis on Computers
Distance Learning Program
• Distance Programs:– Bachelor’s in Computer Science– Master’s in Computer Science
• Delivered in archived format over WebCT
• Self Paced
• Primarily oriented towards industry
Distance Learning Program – Known Substitutions
• Normally, students complete lower-division General Education, calculus and physics at a local junior college
• All General Option computer courses or substitutions are available through the distance learning programming.
• Known substitutions:– Lower division discrete math at junior college for upper
division MA-317 Discrete Math Structures– Lower division Probability and Statistics at junior college for
upper-division CSCI-314 Probability and Statistics course– Approved Computer Science upper division elective for
CSCI-315 Programming Languages– Junior college Technical Writing or second semester junior
college English Composition course for CSCI-305 Proj. Requirements/Design/Test
