Session Description:

Ontario has become a world leader in creating advantageous

P3 partnerships for the delivery of transit and other public

infrastructure projects. But we have not yet fully harnessed

the potential of these public infrastructure investment

vehicles and private land development opportunities. How

can we turn this around?

TTC Role in Development Process

• Support and protect TTC’s operating infrastructure through

development and technical review processes• Proposals within 60m of TTC infrastructure subject to review

• Leverage development proposals to improve station access,

accessibility and convenience for customers

• TTC reviews 300+ technical submissions per year

• Specialized staff manage review process

• New/improved subway connections

• Improved accessibility to station – new elevators

• Station/subway ventilation improvements.

Challenges:

• Scope/complexity of construction

• 20 months to approval of new entrances

KPMG Tower at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station • Opportunities:

• Direct connection from first office development to subway.

• Leverage subway design, connecting to one of 6 pre-built knock-out panels into station concourse.

Challenges:

• Planning and design started after subway contract awarded.

• Coordination of design, construction logistics.

• Unique proposal for public plaza over station/tail track.

• Technical reviews: 15 submissions to date
