Evvironmental Sciences
The physical environment of earth consists of Atmosphere, Hydrosphere and Litho-
sphere where interaction of physical, chemical and biological processes are takes
place. Environmental studies are multi disciplinary science and it includes disciplines
like Chemistry, Physics, Medical Science, Humanities, Commerce, Meteorology, Cli-
matology, Geography, Geology, Zoology, Botany, Forestry and other disciplines. The
theme of world environment day 2020 was “Time for nature” with a focus to its role
in providing the essential infrastructure that support life on the earth and human
development. Environmental science is important because it deals with the relation-
ships of living and non-living organisms with their environment. Thus, the scopes of
environmental studies are extremely wide and cover some aspects of every major
discipline. The environmental science developed understanding of earth processes,
evaluating alternate energy system, natural resource management, pollution con-
trol, effect of global climate change and generates awareness among the people. In
recent years, the increasing human population has lead to several environment
problems like climate change, air, water and land pollution which lead to various
climates related disasters mainly the heavy rains, storms, floods, drought and acid
rain. The other environmental effects are stress and death of vegetation, migration
of species, extinction of species, and human health. The knowledge of environ-
mental science provides information on the status of earth resources and impact of
human activities on them and their mitigation. Therefore, the objectives of the pre-
sent course will be to share the experience of researcher/teachers and scientists/
social organizations who are involved in resource use and management, with the
participants about the sustainable development and to mitigate the global, regional
and local environmental problems.
