Match backgroundPSV Eindhoven need at least a draw to maintain their fading hopes of progress from UEFA Champions League GroupD as they host FC Bayern München on matchday four.

• The epitome of versatility, Cocu was capable of operating as a central or left-sided midfielder, at full-back, or even asa second striker. He started his career in the Dutch second division with AZ before developing into one of his country'sbest young players under the guidance of Herbert Neumann during five years at Vitesse.

• In 1995 he moved to PSV, where he won the title and the Dutch Cup, scoring 31 goals in 93 Eredivisie matches overthree seasons. Left for Barcelona in 1998 and won the title in his first campaign, the highlight of a six-season staybefore he returned to Eindhoven.

• Cocu was inspirational as PSV won the double in 2004/05 and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA ChampionsLeague. He won two more championships in Eindhoven before finishing his career with Al-Jazira Club in 2007/08.

• Made his international debut against Germany in April 1996 and played at EURO '96, the 1998 FIFA World Cup,UEFA EURO 2000 and was captain during the Netherlands' run to the semi-finals at UEFA EURO 2004. He retiredafter a 1-0 loss to Portugal at the 2006 World Cup in Germany having won 101 caps.

• He became youth coach and assistant coach at PSV, and assisted Bert van Marwijk during the Netherlands' run tothe 2010 World Cup final. In March 2012 he became interim head coach at PSV, promptly winning the Dutch Cup.After working as Dick Advocaat's assistant the next season, he became head coach on 1 July 2013. PSV finishedfourth in his first season before winning the Dutch championship, with Cocu voted Dutch coach of the year in 2015;they retained the title 12 months later.

• One of only seven people to have lifted the European Champion Clubs' Cup as both a player and coach and thesecond manager, after Bob Paisley, to win the trophy three times. A combative midfielder, he helped Roma win the1983 Serie A title and four Italian Cups before joining Milan in 1986 where he added two more league championships,as well as back-to-back European Cup triumphs in 1989 and 1990.

• Began coaching in 1995 with a year at Reggiana, earning them promotion from Serie B, before two seasons atParma. Replaced Marcello Lippi at Juventus in February 1999 and returned to San Siro as coach of Milan in 2001.

• During eight seasons in charge, won the UEFA Champions League in 2003 and 2007, but lost the 2005 final onpenalties to Liverpool FC after leading 3-0. Milan also won a Serie A title, a Coppa Italia and the 2007 FIFA ClubWorld Cup.

• Resigned on 31 May 2009 and was named as Chelsea's new manager the following day. His first season in Londonended with the club winning the league and cup double for the first time. Dismissed at the end of his secondcampaign, Ancelotti took charge of Paris in December 2011.

• In his one full season in the French capital, 2012/13, Ancelotti steered Paris to their first Ligue 1 title in 19 years. Leftto take over at Madrid, winning the Copa del Rey and the club's tenth European Cup in his first season, becoming onlythe fifth coach to win the trophy with two clubs in the process. Madrid added the UEFA Super Cup at the start of thefollowing campaign, the fifth time Ancelotti had won that trophy as player or coach, although he was dismissed at theend of the campaign. In December 2015, appointed Bayern coach on a three-year contract, taking the reins insummer 2016.

Competition factsUEFA Champions League: Did you know?• In 2012/13, Chelsea became the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFAChampions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 thatfeatured a second group stage). In 1992/93, Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders andlost 4-3 on aggregate in the second round to CSKA Moskva.

• No team has successfully defended the UEFA Champions League trophy, with Milan (1989, 1990) the last club towin consecutive European Cups. • Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta is the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League having featuredagainst Real Madrid on matchday six in 2007/08 aged 43 years and 252 days. Alessandro Costacurta is the oldestoutfield player; the Milan defender was 40 years and 211 days when he played against AEK Athens in 2006/07.

• Francesco Totti is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 38 years and 59 days, in Roma's 1-1 draw atCSKA Moskva on 25 November 2014. Ryan Giggs (37 years 290 days) was the previous record holder.

• Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared; he was 16 years and 87 days when he started forAnderlecht against Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was sent off in the 37th minute.

• Peter Ofori-Quaye is the youngest player to have scored in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 195days. He found the net in Olympiacos's 5-1 defeat at Rosenborg on 1 October 1997.

• Lionel Messi became the first player to score five goals in a match in Barcelona's 7-1 win against Bayer Leverkusenon 7 March 2012, a feat matched by Shakhtar Donetsk's Luiz Adriano at BATE Borisov on 21 October 2014. Elevenmore players, also including Messi, have scored four times in a game, most recently Cristiano Ronaldo for RealMadrid CF on matchday six in 2015/16.

• Cristiano Ronaldo set a new record for a UEFA Champions League stage with 11 goals in 2015/16, eclipsing hisown mark of nine goals in 2013/14, which Luiz Adriano matched in 2014/15. Zlatan Ibrahimović (2013/14), Ruud vanNistelrooy (2004/05), Filippo Inzaghi and Hernán Crespo (both 2002/03) managed eight.

• Messi's hat-trick on matchday three of the 2016/17 competition was his seventh in the competition – two more thanRonaldo.

• Barcelona have finished as group winners on 17 occasions, two more than Real Madrid and three more thanManchester United and FC Bayern München.

• Bayern München (2 April 2013 to 27 November 2013) and Real Madrid (23 April 2014 to 18 February 2015) jointlyhold the record for successive wins in the UEFA Champions League proper with ten. Bayern surpassed the previousmark of nine, set by Barcelona between 18 September 2002 and 18 February 2003. Anderlecht's 12 straight defeats(10 December 2003 to 23 November 2005) is also a competition record.

• Six teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), ParisSaint-Germain (1994/95), Spartak Moskva (1995/96), Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage) and Real Madrid(2011/12 and 2014/15).

• Seventeen teams have gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without picking up a single point,most recently Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC in 2015/16.

• Real Madrid scored 20 goals in the 2013/14 group stage, equalling the competition record held jointly by ManchesterUnited (1998/99) and Barcelona (2011/12). Barcelona scored 19 times in the 1999/2000 first group stage, a tallymatched by Real Madrid in 2011/12 and 2015/16, plus Bayern in 2015/16.

• Only Deportivo La Coruña (2004/05) and Maccabi Haifa (2009/10) have failed to score in a group stage.

• BATE Borisov conceded 24 goals in 2014/15, a new record. The previous mark, 22, was held by Dinamo Zagreb(2011/12) and Nordsjælland (2012/13); Malmö FF shipped 21 in 2015/16.

• No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93),Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea (2005/06), Liverpool (2005/06), Villarreal (2005/06),Manchester United (2010/11), Monaco (2014/15) and Paris Saint-Germain (2015/16) all let in just one.

• Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on matchday six of the 2006/07 campaign, Spartak Moskvawent 22 games without a victory in the competition, a mark Steaua Bucureşti surpassed on matchday six in 2013/14.

• The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is six points: Zenit in 2013/14 and AS Roma in 2015/16.Since three points for a win was introduced in 1995/96, eight teams have made it through with seven points: Legia
