The right choice for themaximum return on yourinvestment in wind energy.
UE 1.65 DirectDrive
With its simplicity and modularity the UE 1.65 Direct-Drive Technology offers a long lifespan, high reliabilityand reduced maintenance costs while the highly deve-loped control electronics maximise energy output.
What is the UE 1.65 DirectDrive? The UE 1.65 DirectDrive is a gearless, electrically fieldexcited, permanent magnet less, synchronous variablespeed turbine connected to the grid through a full power converter.
This configuration and several advanced robust QFTcontrol strategies allow machine features, active andreactive power control, optimised aerodynamic effici-ency to maximise power output while minimising windloads, increased power quality and reliability.
Furthermore, these performance features are com-manded by a flexible software platform to meet the customer requirements and site characteristics. You can choose from the following turbines on the1.65 DirectDrive turbine family:
· UE 1.65 DirectDrive 70 – IEC IA· UE 1.65 DirectDrive 77 – IEC IIA· UE 1.65 DirectDrive 82 – IEC IIIA, IIIB· UE 1.65 DirectDrive 86 – IEC IIIA· UE 1.65 DirectDrive 89 – IEC IVB
Our broad range of turbines is adaptable to yoursite. Our nacelle is the same for all of our products. Ifyou change the rotor we only change the blade andits bearings, so UE DirectDrive service tools and spareparts are the same no matter which configuration youchoose.

Concept & Design
The design of the United Energies MTOI wind turbinesis based on three basic principles: simplicity, robustnessand reliability.
Our competitive product is the result of combiningthe three principles with the leading technologies andexperience. UE DirectDrive technology uses seamlessintegration of highly reliable components developedby top suppliers. This ensures a consistency in quality;a key factor in our success.
Leading technology to ensure a robust and reliable de-sign, supported by its strong commitment to simplicity, which stems from the removal of both gearbox andpermanent magnets.Reliability, through the use of a high performancemultipolar synchronous generator, with a full powerconverter ensuring maximum power quality deliveredto the grid.
With an innovative genetic, United Energies MTOI hasemployed 10 years and over 2,000,000.00 operationhours in continuous testing and improvement, appliedto its UE 1.65 MW turbines, to bring to market a pro-duct that fulfills its promise for the highest reliabilityand robustness.
High reliability & professional O&M service guaranteea turbine availability of a 97 % plus annual averagesince 2006. Steady evolution of the UE 1.65DirectDrive turbine results in even higher availabilityratios for the latest models.
3 UE 1.65 DirectDrive Turbine Technology
Because simplicity is theright path to achieve highreliability.
UE DirectDrive Technology:
· DirectDrive = Gearless
· Multi polar synchronous generator without permanent magnets
· Grid connecti on through a full power converter
· Electrical systems minimizing the presence of oil in the machine (total of 11 litres)
· Simplicity concept as a means to have high reliability
· High-capacity grid integrati on, thus contributi ng to the grid stability
Transferring to our customersthe following benefi ts:
· The simplicity in the design and the absence of both gearboxes and high-speed rotati ng elements make the UE DirectDrive wind turbine a robust and reliable machine.
· The simplicity in the design together with the small number of references and the absence of hydraulic elements operati ng in the nacelle, results in lower maintenance costs.
· “Greener” machine due to the absence of oil on rotati ng parts.
· Adaptability of turbine soft ware to diff erent grid codes
· Complete mechanical and electrical immunity to voltage dips

Finance
The Export Credit Agencies (ECAs) from Spain CESCEand SERV from Switzerland support the export of ourwind turbines. This insurance functi ons like a guaran-tee against project default. This mechanism allows thefi nancing European banks to grant loans with moreeconomical:
· Low equity requirements – as low as 15 % of the total project capital expenditure· Long fi nancing periods with loan terms of up to 18 years· Low interest rates of Europe· Grace periods of up to 18 months aft er start of operati on· Financeable local cost content of up to 30 % of the export contract value
United Energies, leading the way by providing alterna-ti ves in project fi nance.

Bigger or cheaper turbinesdon‘t guarantee a lowercost of energyWhat is cost of energy?
The relevant cost ranges for producing electricity from renewable energy power plants as well as the key drivers of projects costs. These include the cost of fi nancing and equip-ment, installati on, operati ng and maintenance as well as fuel costs where applicable.
CAPEX (Capital expenditure): Sum of the total cost of developing and constructi ng a plant, excluding any grid-connecti on charges.
OPEX (Operati ng expenditure): Sum of the total annual operati ng expenditure from the fi rst year of a project’s operati on, given in per unit of installed capacity per MW.
In Conventi onal Energy such as coal, gas or petrol, the determining factor is the price per installed MW. In Renewable Energy, the determining factor is the price per produced MWh.

13 UE 1.65 DirectDrive Turbine Technology
The UE DirectDrive technology was developed withthe aeronautics synergies in Spanish MTORRES group.MTORRES is a global technology leader in both aero-space and paper industries.
Turbine configuration was defined according to windsector experience and future requirements. Thereis no gearbox, no fast rotating elements, minimalamounts of grease and no mechanical high frequencynoise emitters, saving huge amounts of hidden coststhrough replacements during turbine life.
Less maintenance requirements allowing high availabi-lity in small and remote wind farms. United Energies
ensures spare parts availability as soon as required ina Wind Turbine. Spare parts availability and best priceare achieved through a central purchasing process andstock control of several warehouses (from headquar-ters to wind farms).
Moreover UE DirectDrive Technology has a simplestandard design with a single nacelle for all rotor com-binations and has no main component combinations. The result is a small warehouse.
The turbine is grid friendly, allowing a large wind energy integration in the grid, preventing blackouts due to its high capabilities with LVRT (Low Voltage ride Through).
