Residential small cells, or femtocells, are a simple way foroperators to provide all customers with a premium mobileservice at home. Overall network quality is becoming a keydecision-point, and customers with femtocells are less likely tochurn and more likely to increase usage. Femtocells connectand differentiate xed broadband offerings, and provide amechanism to create compelling bundled services for householdconsolidation.

Ubiquisys femtocells are proven in mass deployments inEurope, Asia and America. Their success is down to uniqueinterference management technology, modular hardware thatprovides performance, low cost and easy customisation, andlifecycle management systems that ensure reliability and control.Ubiquisys designs and codes all femto application softwareenabling tailoring, optimisation and quality control of a complex

    software

Ubiquisys intelligent cell software makessmall cells dynamic and adaptive, withActiveRadio making policy-based decisionsin response to changes in the radioenvironment.

An optional feature is ActiveSON , whereindividual femtocells sense each other usingradio and then mutually negotiate neighbourrules over the company LAN. The result isa seamless grid of premium coverage withrobust load-balancing features. Theres noneed for a local controller and because thesystem is automatic it needs no specialistskills to install.

The platform also includes call sessionsupport, macro interworking, statisticsand diagnostics, core network interfacing, backhaul management and enterprise appssupport.

Sophisticated software allows Ubiquisysfemtocells to be deployed in challengingreal-world situations, such as shared macrospectrum and in open access mode. Fieldupgradable support for Iuh, IMS and GANnetwork interfaces, plus options such as HD

    hardware

Ubiquisys foundation hardware designs haveenabled leading manufacturers customise, integrate and cost-optimise to operatorrequirements.

Enterprise femtocells are based on theUbiquisys UMTS platform design providing 16calls and 14.4/5.7Mbps HSPA in bands I, II/IVand IV. Transmission power is 100 to 250mW.A range of free-standing and wall-mounteddevices are available. Deployed hardwareinnovation includes WiFi integration andPower over Ethernet (PoE).

Enterprise small cells, or femtocells, enable operators to providepremium in-building mobile to all of their business customers, improving workforce productivity and employee satisfaction. Businesspremises often have the worst mobile coverage, caused by deepinteriors, concrete and steel construction and metalised windows.Traditional solutions like picocells and DAS require expert radio planningand only make commercial sense for large office buildings. That leavesthe vast majority of businesses struggling with poor mobile service andoperators with no cost-effective solution until now.

Ubiquisys enterprise femtocells are designed with higher poweroutput and capacity than residential models, and benet from thesame capabilities of interference management technology, modularhardware that provides performance, low cost and easy customisation, and lifecycle management systems that ensure reliability and control. In addition, Ubiquisys femtocells automatically form a self-organising

network (SON) that can simply be installed by IT guys. Ubiquisysenterprise femtocells, both as single units and in multi-unit SON grids, are deployed in commercial networks around the world.

Mobile data demand is rising fast, causing a major capacity gap foroperators. This is a particular problem in in-building public spaces suchas retail outlets, shopping malls, airports and stations, where trafficvolumes vary considerably from minute to minute.

Ubiquisys public access small cells are designed to provide publiccoverage and capacity in a diverse range of environments wherethe macro network cannot do so cost-effectively. Incorporating bothActiveRadio technology to minimise deployment and operationalcosts, these cells sense and adapt to changes in the radio environment, and hand to and from the macro layer.

Ubiquisys public access small cells are deployed today in a diverserange of public spaces, and are eld-proven to handle high trafficand high mobility environments. They are connected by a variety ofbackhaul options, including ADSL broadband, bre, cable and satellite.

Mobile operators face increasing customer demand to provide mobile coveragein rural and remote locations. In the majority of countries coverage is still farfrom universal, even those that have well-developed networks. In addition tobasic voice coverage there is now an expectation of mobile data to serve thegrowing population of smartphones and tablets.

The challenge for rural coverage is cost-effectiveness, in particular the costsof site, backhaul, power and equipment. Ubiquisys rural small cell solutionis proven to signicantly reduce all of these costs. For backhaul we usecommodity broadband such as DSL, or even low cost satellite, used extensivelyin our deployments with SoftBank in Japan. The small cells themselves arecompact devices with low power consumption, and are installed on existingstreet furniture or even on residential property.

Each small cell provides coverage up to 3km in radius. Our unique ActiveRadio technology automates set-up making installation a simple task, not a specialist

radio planning exercise. The Ubiquisys G9 rural small cell solution is deployedwidely in Japan and in a growing number of countries worldwide.
