Juan and Gertrudis were young Mulatto slaves who lived in Central Mexico. Which was the heartland of New Spain in the 17th century.

Juan and Gertrudis were intelligent individuals who were badly exploited by a colonial society.They helped destroy the restrictive colonial social order that began under the leadership of Hidalgo.
