Please pray that hearts will be touched this month for the cause of human life.
“…Although it seems to have fallen out of fashion today, there is, in fact, a way of defining a concept of existence, meaning and human life that has worked exceptionally well for individuals and society wherever it has been tried. Jesus Christ explained this concept in his every word and every action: Our origin and our destiny is God, our Father, who loves each of us with an infinitely tender and merciful love. The mystery of human life is that we—every one of us—are precious to God even as we are—weak and sinful. As Pope Francis has pointed out more than once, God our Father never stops loving us and never tires of forgiving us. At our least sign of remorse, he fills us with his consolation, peace and hope. Opening our hearts to life means that we reject the killing of human beings from the moment of conception to their natural death—by abortifacient ’contraceptives’ and abortion, in destructive embryo research and IVF procedures, by denying life-saving treatment to those with disabilities, and by ‘hastening death’ of the elderly and dying in assisted suicide and euthanasia. Opening our hearts to life means opposing the death penalty, as well as slavery, human trafficking, terrorism and unjust war, and that we work to eradicate the conditions that prevent our brothers and sisters from realizing their full human potential…”

The ArT of SpiriTuAl DirecTionSpiritual direction is an ancient ministry, a unique one-to-one relationship in which a trained person assists another person in the search for an ever closer union of love with God. Directors listen carefully to the unfolding of directees' lives to help them discern the ways in which God is leading them. The practice of spiritual direction consists much more of "holy listening" rather than direction in the sense of offering guidance or direct advice.American Martyrs Church maintains a list of Certified Spiritual Directors who have received training, formation, and are members of Spiritual Directors International. They are committed to spiritual growth, both personally and with those they accompany on their journey. For more information and help finding a Certified Spiritual Director, contact Jenny Attanasio, 310-545-5651.

“Where there is no love, put love and you will draw out love.” St. John of the Cross, The Minor Works
In contemplative prayer, we come to God empty handed and open hearted, trusting that God knows all of our needs. We listen with our hearts for the
many ways in which God continually draws each one of us by love and grace, within and beyond our faith community.
What do we do? Very simply, we begin with a brief reading, followed by two 20 minute periods of silent prayer, closing with the “Our Father” at 8:30pM. Some prefer to keep the silence and leave at this time; others choose to remain for a few minutes of conversation regarding the reading or the practice of contemplative prayer.
Please join us once, often or always, for the Love of it! Ministry ContaCt: Donna Ennis, 310-941-1349
