MODEL PREPARATION : Select Grid Only and then add the input Data required and required is self

explanatory . and Press OK

Then view will be as given below . To view the Grid in 2D click xz as highlighted in portion of snap.


Right Click the Grid Data and then click EDIT GRID DATA … a dialog box pops up

Change the value of ordinate Z3 to 10.81


Goto Draw menu and select Draw Special Joint

Click at all the intersection points of Grid as intended and then Display the labels . For that you can see the tool highlighted (Set Display options)in snap. Just click it and follow the next step


Again goto select menu and click Draw Frame/Cable/Tendon) and a dialog box appears as shown at side . For Moment Releases replace Continuous with Pinned

Start drawing the members as depicted in picture


Goto Define menu Materials.. a dialog box opens

Select A992Fy50 then Modify/Show Material


Just keep Weight Per Unit Volume as Zero

Select Node 1 & 6 and then Goto Assign Menu Joint then Restraints… a dialog box Opens Check the box as shown


Then in Similar way Goto Assign menu the Joint Loads then Forces… a dialog Box pops up then Fill it by Inputting the value as 1 in Force Global Z

Again Goto Analyze menu Set Analysis Options … a dialog box opens and check the XZ Plane button as depicted in figure


Again Goto Analyze menu and Click Run Analysis.. a dialog box opens just click Run Now and make sure Actions are at Run mode

Save it and Structure is analyzed and a 3D figure comes with deflected Shape and that brings Model making part to an end


DISPLAYING ANALYSIS RESULTS :

This is most important Part . To display results first bring model to XZ plane

Goto Display menu and then Show Tables…


Check the Analysis Results in the Dialog box and Press OK ..

Another Window Pops up and in that from drop Down Combo Box select Member Joint Forces


Then from same Display menu , click undeformed Shape and then Show Frame Labels so that one can easily identify the member and its comparative Forces

Then from the Tables of Analysis Results we can fill the Following Columns by Writing all the Forces in Members when 1 KN a unit Load is applied at Node 2

MEMBERS Forces in members due to Unit Load 2 3 4 5 1 -0.335 2 0.589

And the table goes on filling and –ve value shows compression and +ve sign shows the Tension in members and then for one member with five values (obtained by placing unit load at 5 node points at their terms) the

The whole Process can be Repeated fir node 3 and then node 4 and then node 5 .


I faced Problem in selecting values from Tables and for Naives ( I mean Beginners) , I suggest that they should pick the values from Axial Force Diagram and to obtain goto Display menu and then Show Forces/Stresses then Frames/Cables…


And then follow the diagram


press Ok

Yellow Color for Tension and Red for Compression
