In order to promote cashless transactions, the Chennai Metropolitan Wa-ter Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has decided to introduce Point Of Sale (POS) services machines in all of its of-fices from Monday. This step has been taken to re-duce cash collection.
Since 2019, there has been a drastic increase in online payments done by the people, a senior official from CMWSSB said. “We have been visiting other modes of the payment of taxes for a while now. To promote cashless transac-tions, we have decided to supply POS machines to all the officers and in all the depots,” he said.
To start with, about 80 POS machines would be distributed to various CMWSSB offices, includ-ing depots, in the city that are engaged in tax collec-tion. Their personnel are
CMWSSB to go for cashless transactions from Mondaybeing trained on the use of the machines. The online services of the water board has gained patronage. In the year 2021, close to 60-65% of payments were
made online. A number of facilities had been added, including various mobile wallets, for online pay-ment. Moreover consum-ers now receive customised
link as a text message from where they could make payments without diffi-culty. The wallet agency has so far collected a rea-sonable amount as taxes.

Call to resume bus servicesSir,
Rail Nagar, a major residential complex with 406 Flats, has a population of around 2500. If this is added with the strength of two adjoining big Complexes viz., “Medi-mix” and “Kalpatharu”, the total strength would touch the figure of about 8000. After re-peated requests by the governing Body “Rail Nagar Flat-owners’
Association (RNFA), earlier two bus ser-vices, one to connect Parrys via Poonamalle High Road and another to Villivakkam via Anna Nagar were introduced and these buses would always run with their full complement from Rail Nagar end with the patronage of mostly students and office-goers. RNFA, hop-ing that these services would remain perma-nent also erected a pucca bus shelter, within
its complex. As if to undo this arrangement, the then
transport authorities, for the reasons known to them, discontinued both these services one by one. The RNFA took up this arbitrary exercise with the authorities concerned but with no response. As a last resort, even the then Transport Minister was personally ap-proached but all our efforts proved futile, though the then Minister promised to sort out the issue.
The new Ministry headed by a dynamic person like M.K.Stalin is effecting many re-forms in the transport sector with the intro-duction of free travel for women and has ensured resumption of many curtailed ser-vices of the earlier rule for a purely need-based which is people-oriented and acts as a big morale-booster. On behalf of the ag-grieved lot, I appeal to the Hon’ble C.M to immediately resume the bus services.

Pavement not usedSir,
Footpath pavement laid very recently by the Highways department is unusable due to the leaning branch of the tree, the construc-tion materials dumped and JCB machine parked. This is on Thirumangalam - Am-bathur Estate Road in front of Mayuri Apart-ments falling under division 89 of Ambathur zone. Will the highways department and the Chennai Corporation coordinate with each other and make the pavement usable?

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Patchy work,action neededSir,
Two months back in Mogappair west in between first and second main road cutting was done on one side of the road by CMWSSB (Metro water) to lay drinking water pipe lines. Despite the work getting over the people concerned have not flattened the ground properly and the debris dumped on the footpath are not cleared. Due to this the road width has been drastically reduced. Pedestrians, particularly senior citi-zens are finding it difficult to walk. More so the footpaths are being encroached by vendors.
With the North east monsoon
approaching there is every possibil-ity of people skidding and vehicles getting trapped.
Request the authorities con-cerned to take immediate action.

Two partners of a private travel agen-cy in Mogappair
are on the run after alleg-edly cheating many car owners by getting them to hand over their vehicles by promising higher monthly rentals. A driver, working with the travel agency, identified as Lakshmanan, a resident of Thirumul-laivoyal, has been arrested by the personnel of the Nolambur Police Station on charges of abetting the two accused in the crime.
According to police s o u r c e s , A r u n a n d Gowtham Raj had set up a travel agency in the Mogappair neighbour-hood. They sought to lure car owners into renting out their vehicles on a long term basis and promised
high rental income for the same. Lured by their promise, many people, who owned cars, handed over their vehicles to the agency hoping to earn good income within a short time.
One of those who en-tered into an agreement with the agency was Siv-aperumal, a young man hailing from the Palla-varam neighbourhood. He owned two cars. Police said he entered into an agreement with the private travel agency, which prom-ised to pay him monthly rentals of Rs 27,000 for one of the cars and Rs 22,000 for another car. The travel agency had said that it will let out the cars to others and pay Sivape-rumal from this income.
However, after some period of time Sivape-
Mogappair travel agency partners escape after cheating car ownersrumal did not hear from the travel agency or its owners or employees. He did not receive the money as rental too as promised. A bigger shock awaited him when he visi ted Mogappair and went to the office of the travel agency. “He found the of-fice closed and there were no signs of his cars any-where,” a police personnel said. That’s when the Pal-lavaram resident realised that he had fallen prey to a bait in the form of high-
er returns.Following this, the
cheated car owner lodged a complaint with the po-lice, who registered a First I n f o r m a t i o n Re p o r t promptly and took up in-vestigation in the case.
The police investigation found that both Arun and Gowtham Raj have since gone missing. They have taken up efforts to locate them. Meanwhile, they followed up some leads and arrested Lakshmanan, who worked as a driver,
and allegedly aided the two partners in the crime. The police are hopeful that
they will soon be able to arrest the two absconding accused as well.

Mani wins5 kms racein Avadi
Tall with an athletic frame, P Mani, a student of the Nazareth College of Arts and Science, Avadi is one with immense poten-tial as far as track events are con-cerned. Long distance run-ning as been his favourite and has won a lot of med-als in 800m, 1500m and marathons. His latest of achievements was the 5km long distance running com-petition conducted by the Avadi Municipality for the 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Ma-hotsav (AKAM) on Oct 2.
He was earlier a student of the Bethany school in Jaswanth Nagar.
Mani is trained by T Christopher Nallarasu,
Director of Physical Education Mar Gregorios College, Mogap-pair. Mr.Kirubhakaran, Director of Physical Education of his col-lege, Irudhaya Doss, Antony, Daniel and G Bhaskaran have been of support to him at one time or the other.
Mani has proved his prowess in no uncertain manner, a little more dedication he is sure to win many laurels in his career.
In a world dominated by tech-nology, the joy of putting pen to paper is almost entirely lost. The older we get, the larger the gap between writing things down and digitization becomes. While the global pandemic cast a heavy shadow on many, it also had its advantages -- one of which was how people turned inwards to find serenity, strength, and peace.
More light was shed on mental health, its importance, and meth-ods that helped people achieve that. Many turned to pursue their creative interests (including writ-ing, drawing, and painting) far more seriously than they had ever done before, leveraging pens, pa-per, and stationery. Similarly, journaling was one of the main elements that supported people through those testing times.
Four key benefits of journaling:
HELPS MANAGE STRESS AND ANXIETY: Keeping a journal often helps us put our thoughts in order and reduce the chaos of everyday life. Journaling not only helps us relive memories and experiences, but provides us with a platform to get to know ourselves better and reveal our deepest fears, passion points, thoughts, and feelings.
HELPS DRAW ON AND LEARN FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCES: It is scien-tifically proven that writing using pen and paper helps retain infor-mation better than when using
mobile phones or tablets. Writing down affirmations, achievements, and learnings helps us take in in-formation, and learn from the past.
IMPROVES MOOD AND ENHANCES SLEEP: Generations, including mil-lennials and Gen Z, work very differently from previous groups. They have shorter attention spans and store bits and pieces of infor-mation. Their minds resemble a computer with various open tabs, which makes shutting their brain down challenging. Journaling encourages people to let things out keeping them sane and uplifted and making a good night’s sleep possible.
BOOSTS CREATIVITY: Journaling sets the brain free as it provides us with an opportunity to doodle, draw, write, illustrate, and colour in a personal space without any judgment. Journaling allows people to explore uncharted thoughts and emotions. Writing gets thoughts out and clears the mind for fresh ideas, helping our minds wander and dream -- all the while recharging its creative cells.
Start a new habit that would benefit you positively and stimu-late your brain in a way that digi-tal communication doesn’t. The power of writing is powerful and unmatched -- continue to express yourself in an impactful manner to ensure a better and healthy you.

Gone are the days when men from t h e G r e a t e r
Chennai Corporation of the Tamil Nadu Genera-tion and Distribution Company (TANGEDCO – which was previously known as Tamil Nadu Electr ic i ty Board or TNEB) - would climb up trees risking lives and limbs to chop tree branch-es close to overhead elec-tricity cables.
Now the Greater Chen-nai Corporation has start-ed using tree branch prun-ing machinery for the purpose. And where else
did the deploy it but in our very neighbourhood of Anna Nagar!
“Tree branch Pruning Machinery being used in Anna Nagar to prevent damage to cables,” tweet-ed senior IAS officer Ga-gandeep Singh Bedi, the Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corpo-ration this past week. His tweet was accompanied by a video of a tree branch pruning machinery in operation in a street in Anna Nagar. The tree branches are usually pruned before the onset of every monsoon to prevent snapping of overhead electricity cables due to
falling branches during heavy winds or other ac-cidents.
Not just the Twitterati, even those in the Anna Nagar neighbourhood, who saw the machinery in operation, lost no time in getting curious to know what the machinery was all about. Resembling a small JCB, the machinery is operated by a person sitting in a cubicle, which can be raised to a certain height to reach out to the tree branches close to overhead cables and chop them off without causing any damage to the numer-ous dangling cables.
While one Twitter user
wanted to take a ‘lift’ in the new ‘vehicle’, another tweet posted by a user of the micro blogging site claimed that the machine is actually a “man life” used for pruning tree branches “in this case”. Many residents of Chen-nai responded saying they wanted the machinery that was used in Anna Nagar to be deployed in their respective neighbour-hoods as well. There was one Twitter user who wanted the administrators of the neighbouring Union Territory of Pu-ducherry to use the ma-chinery.
Another Twitter user made a valid point: “One small suggestion- may ar-rangements be made to collect the cut branches immediately. They are cleared the next day only.”

this the total number of RMUs installed in TVS Avenue and TVS Colony comes to five numbers.
On behalf of the residents the associa-tion conveyed their apprec ia t ion and thanks to TANGED-CO staff and to the AE TSK Nagar division.

Railways extend datefor collection of fine
The Railway Board (RB) has extended the rule permitting to impose a fine of Rs 500 on those found without masks on railway prem-ises up to the middle of April 2022.
Railway Board has issued an order to all zonal railways for extending the validity of the instruction by six months up to April 16, 2022, or till further instruction. The board had de-cided to ensure the wearing of face masks by all persons at railway premises (including trains) and fines (up to Rs 500) under Indian Railways (Penalties for Activities Affecting Cleanliness at Railway Premises) Rules 2012 for persons not wearing masks on railway premises.
Hall bookings can be done from Zonal offices
From now on, residents can book com-munity halls for marriages and other functions at the respective zonal offices. Hitherto, book-ings for community halls are made only at the Ripon Buildings.
“Residents, especially those who live in the extended zones, are facing difficulties while booking community halls. Due to this, book-ings are lesser in the extended zones,” a Chen-
nai Corporation council resolution said. The resolution added that residents could
book community halls at the Revenue sections at the zonal offices. Charges fixed for some of the community halls are as low as less than Rs. 1,000. However, residents should pay 18 per cent GST for bookings.
Already, the civic body has introduced an online facility so that the residents can know the availability and vacancies. Residents should book the community halls within 6 months from the date of the functions.
The students of the Velammal Main School, Mogap-pair set the festive mood celebrating the festival of Navaratri with great zeal and enthusiasm. Bhajans were sung with devotion by the faculty followed by enchanting cultural performances by the Vel’s Naty-alaya’s budding dancers and musicians.

Attempted abductionputs focus on need for cautionBy Our Correspondent
With the Anna Nagar police recently crack-
ing a failed attempt to ab-duct a construction firm owner in Anna Nagar in the month of June this year, the case has turned out to be a lesson on the need to be discreet in pub-lic. Often people end up sharing too many details about their personal life, with some either flaunting their prosperity or throw-ing caution to the winds and telling random people about their financial well being. Police are now pointing to this Anna Nagar case to caution peo-ple on the need to be dis-creet with those they come in contact with.
According to police, in June when Praveen, a resi-
dent of Anna Nagar W Block, who operates a construction business, was proceeding in his car, he was intercepted by an armed gang, which came in a vehicle at Anna Nagar X Block. The gang bran-dished knives and attempt-ed to abduct him. However, Praveen did not get down from his car and quickly called the police after which the gang members fled. The Anna Nagar K4 Police Station personnel had registered a case and examined the CCTV foot-age from the neighbour-hood and obtained certain clues about the vehicle used for the attempted ab-duction. However, they were unable to trace the accused.
Meanwhile, last month, a young woman was tied up by a gang in her house
in Kolathur and robbed. The gang had fled with the looted jewellery. On her complaint, the Rajaman-galam Police registered a case and began an investi-gation.
The Rajamangalam Po-lice with the help of CCTV footage identified the car used by the gang in the crime. They arrested among others accused Tamilselvam of Ambattur and Vijay of Padikuppam.
Upon learning that the same vehicle was used in the attempted abduction of the businessman, the Anna Nagar police arrested them and obtained their police
custody. During the inter-rogation, the accused alleg-edly told the police that the plan to abduct Praveen was given to them by Moham-med Basha, a gym trainer, and a resident of Ambat-tur. The police then ar-rested Basha who allegedly admitted to the crime. Ba-sha told the police that Praveen was a patron of
the gym where he worked as a trainer and told him about how well off he was. Basha had planned to ab-duct Praveen to extort money but the p lan bombed. Consequently police are reminding peo-ple to exercise caution about sharing personal details. After all, discretion is the better part of valour.
