DONATE WITH CARE Attorney General Doug Peterson reminds Nebraskans to donate with care and avoid charity scams in response to recent weather damage and flooding. “In the coming days, it is critical that we reach out and help our communities affected by the devastating floods,” said Attor-ney General Peterson. “One of my responsibilities is to help Nebras-kans recognize and avoid disaster-related, fundraising scams.” Fol-lowing a few simple steps can help ensure that your donations reach those in need: It is best to donate to organizations whose reputations you are familiar with and those having a local presence. Be cautious about fundraising efforts initiated on social media with no known ties to an established organization or local charity. Carefully evaluate the charity before making a donation. Resources such as Charity Navigator, GuideStar, IRS Select Check, the National Center for Charitable Statistics, and the BBB Wise Giving Alliance all provide information about established charities. Designate the disaster so you can ensure your funds are going to disaster relief, rather than a gen-eral fund.

EFFORTS TO ASSIST RANCH FAMILIES As the threat to human lives from the last week’s storms that engulfed the state has begun to subside, the Nebraska Department of Agricul-ture (NDA) will now be concentrating efforts to assist our ranch fami-lies and their livestock. Producers that have been impacted by the blizzard and flooding and are now in need of hay, feed stuffs, fenc-ing materials, volunteer help, equipment, etc. should call the Ne-braska Department of Agriculture at 1-800-831-0550. Be prepared to share your name, contact information, type and number of live-stock, location (including county), what assistance you are seeking and how urgent your need is. Nebraska has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support for our producers. If you have hay, feed stuffs, fencing materials, equipment, etc. that you are willing to do-nate, please contact the Nebraska Department of Agriculture at 1-800-831-0550. Be prepared to share your name, contact informa-tion and what you have that you are willing to donate and the amount, along with your location.

SPORTS The McCook Community College baseball team salvaged the

final game of a three-game series against Southeast Commu-

nity College Monday, 7-5. The Storm won the first two games

of the series 3-2, and 11-9. “It was good to get back on the

winning side of things,” MCC Coach Jon Olsen said. “Getting

walked off in the bottom of the 7th was a tough one to swal-

low yesterday, and then losing game 2 as well.” MCC snaps a

five-game losing streak and improves to 6-10 on the season.

The Indians are headed to Colby Wednesday to play Colby

Community College but coaches are still trying to figure out a

schedule to accommodate Northeast Community College in a

triangular. Game times are pending. They will be posted as

soon as the schedule is set.

The McCook Community College softball team began their

spring-break trip with a pair of losses to Howard College

Monday, 8-0 and 4-3. The Lady Indians were limited to one

hit in the opener and despite a pair of home runs from fresh-

man Emma McLean, (Willetton, Western Australia) in the

second game, the Lady Indians fell short. McLean went four-

for-five on the day. Howard improves to 16-7 on the season.

The Lady Indians fall to 7-13 and continue the Texas road-

trip Tuesday with a pair of games at Midland College (15-7).

MCC will be on the road Saturday and Sunday for a pair of

Region IX doubleheaders at Trinidad State (11-14) Saturday

at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. and noon.
