GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC SCHOOL Principals Newscast Tropicana Speech In Christs Love, Jayme Hartmann Last Weeks Newscast: Click Here Since 1969, Tropicana has supported the 4-H/Tropicana Public Speaking Program, an educational program aimed at teaching young people the techniques of effective public speaking. This educational program is designed to give students experience in the preparation and delivery of a speech. It is taught by a classroom teacher and is incorporated into established lesson plans. With the guidance of their teachers, the participating students work on a speech of their choice. The course culminates in classroom and school competitions where the top speakers from each class are chosen to participate in a coun- ty wide contest with winners from other schools. The result of Tropicanas dedication to the program is evident in the confidence displayed by young people in making prepared or ex- temporaneous presentations later in their school and professional careers. The 4-H/Tropicana Public Speaking Program offers young people this opportunity and teaches them to be better communicators – a skill which will benefit them throughout life. Throughout March and April, students and teachers of grades 4-6 prepared their speeches. On Fri- day, April 12 th , 14 students competed in the GSCS Tropicana Speech Contest. The contestants were: 4 th grade –Luka D., Wardleeh M.; 5 th grade – Elias A., Adelis B., Kaylee G. Pepper L., Ava Q., Madi- son T.; and 6 th grade – Marianna G-M., Jared M., Allison P., Sierra P., Rachel S., Hannah W. The two school winners were Elias A. for the Elementary Division and Rachel S. for the Middle School division. Both the first and second place winners attend the District Competition on April 26, 2019. Good luck to Elias and Rachel as well as Pepper L and Sierra P who earned second place. Congratulations to all of the students for their hard work. Thank you also to Mrs. Ahearn, Mrs. Dan- aher and Mrs. Forman for being our wonderful judges. We know how difficult the job of the judge is! Overall the speeches were amazing! We know our representatives will make GSCS proud!

Prayer for April It is the goal of the spirituality committee at GSCS to share with you a prayer each month. Our hope is that these prayers will offer you strength, comfort, and peace. Please feel free to share the prayers with students, family, and friends. God bless you as we pray together as a family bound in the love of Christ. Since April is the month of the Holy Spirit, please see the prayer we selected below:

Come, Holy Spirit, Creator blest, and in our souls take up Thy rest; come with Thy grace and heavenly aid to fill the hearts which Thou hast made. O comforter, to Thee we cry, O heavenly gift of God Most High, O fount of life and fire of love, and sweet anoint-ing from above. Thou in Thy sevenfold gifts are known; Thou, finger of God's hand we own; Thou, promise of the Father, Thou Who dost the tongue with power imbue. Kin-dle our sense from above, and make our hearts overflow with love; with patience firm and virtue high the weakness of our flesh supply. Far from us drive the foe we dread, and grant us Thy peace instead; so shall we not, with Thee for guide, turn from the path of life aside. Oh, may Thy grace on us bestow the Father and the Son to know; and Thee, through endless times confessed, of both the eternal Spirit blest. Now to the Father and the Son, Who rose from death, be glory given, with Thou, O Holy Comforter, henceforth by all in earth and heaven. Amen.

Monthly Prayer

Mother Mary, I offer you all that I am, all that I have, all that I hope to be. Place me within your Immaculate Heart and teach me how to honor and glorify God In all that I do. Thank you, sweet Mother for your example, love, and protection. Amen

Prayer for May
