WelcomeWelcome to the Engineering Sailing Cup 2017 and welcome to Croatia! It was in 2001 that we visited Croatia first time. Since this we sailed Croatian waters in 2004, 2005, 2010, 2011 and 2014 and it is great to be back, We are pleased to welcome back all of last year’s participants .

We are all looking forward to the reunion on Saturday evening when the ESC week kicks off with the Welcome Party.

During the week we will visit on Vis island the harbours Komiza and Vis town, on the stunning Pakleni archipelago we will anchor in Uval Vinogradisce (which is the perfect venue for dinghy race), followed by Hvar town, Drvenik Veli and then back to Trogir for the farewell and prize-giving party.

We have included extracts from Navionics charts in this booklet, but please do not use these or any other data presented here for navigation. There are waypoints for every overnight stopover including possible alternatives and we suggest you take the time to enter all these into your GPS before we leave Trogir.

Tedious, we know, but we have to remind you that a boat is entirely responsible for its own safety and nothing in this document or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility. It is for the boat to decide whether it is fit to sail in the conditions in which it will find itself. By going to sea, the boat confirms that it is fit for these conditions and that its crew is competent to sail in them. We recommend each skipper to give his crew a safety briefing covering as a minimum gas safety, man over board (MOB) procedures, boom awareness, winch operation and lifejackets. Each skipper should make himself aware of any relevant medical conditions any of his crew have, especially diabetes, epilepsy or heart and blood circuit conditions. It will not be easy to get prescription medicines during the week so make sure your crew has what is needed before leaving the marina of Trogir.

Commodores Welcome

3

Dear participants,

welcome to the ESC 2017. This year, the Engineering Sailing Cup will take us to the beautiful Trogir in Croatia.

We have been in Dalmatia a couple of times, but this splendid coast line with it’s ancient historically valuable cities

and villages along with a fantastic landscape and excellent sailing conditions including the appreciated marinas

attracts us back to Croatia almost every other year!

Our bigger partner-event ECC 2017 will also take place in Trogir the week ahead of our regatta week, which facilitates

the opportunity to sail both events as Arno Hemm and myself with parts of our crew will do!

Friday evening and Saturday morning may give all of you the chance to meet one or the other of your old ECC friends

by coincidence or organized.

Another important reason to select Trogir was a very good offer by Navigare via Cosmos Yachting for 10 almost

identical and very new Yachts Bavaria 46 C. So I hope the regatta will be enthralling like last year, when 6 out of 10

boats could theoretically win the regatta at the last race.

My crew and I are looking forward to an enjoyable and relaxing week being on vacation after all!

We have nearly 10 identical yachts with 4 cabins . This all means your sailing talent and in these water your tactical skills will be tested to the full.

Each day we have tried to set out a challenging course, however, as you all know, the wind and the changes in wind on a particular day demand a coordinated crew effort to finish with the best positions.

General InstructionsESC fleet is waiting for us in BAOTIC Marina at Segit Donji north of Trogir at the main land opposite the island of Trogir old town centre. Details of the marina are given below.

Trogir is literally a town-museum. Lovers of cultural and historical monuments, art, original architecture and nice alleys are given the opportunity in Trogir to learn about the manifold and complex heritage - from the Romanesque yard to the modern interiors. The old core is situated on a small island between the island of Ciovo and the mainland connected to the mainland by a small stone bridge, and to the island of Ciovo by a drawbridge. The unique historical core, Radovan's portal, the art collections which have been luring visitors and travellers for centuries offer a tourist a unique experience. Must-see attractions in Trogir include Kamerlengofortress, Town museum, St. Lawrence cathedral, Loggia with town clock, Old and new Cipiko palace and St. Nicholas church with Kairos collection

Commodore and his team have decided to celebrate the welcome as well as the winner award party at the locations inside the marina in order to ensure short ways and comfortable accommodations. Details are given on separate slides below.

General Instructions

General ESC2017 will take place out of Trogir in Croatia from 13th to 20th May 2017. Dirk Demtröder and his crew will be our Commodore and his boat, “ BEATRIX ” will be the “LAM DUG” for race starts (see below). The event will be sailed under ISAF’s “Racing Rules of Sailing for 2013 - 2016” (available from internet and as an app for Apple and Android mobiles). The event will consist of 6 daily races (legs) with the worst result discarded. The overall ranking will be in order of lowest points score. Ties will be decided based on each yacht’s best performances. There will be a prize for the overall winners.

Courses and Pre-race Briefings Briefings will be held every morning - see Commodore’s crew for venue. All skippers and crews are welcome. The day’s course(s) will be given at the briefing, or later by VHF on the water. The provisional routes and stopover locations are given on the following pages. In every case, the first mark to be rounded after the start will be upwind and will require at least one tack. One of the waypoints shown on each route chart in the following pages is likely to be used as the windward mark, after which the route will follow the waypoints in numerical order. If the race is to be shortened it will be at a distinctive location near one of the waypoints. Unless otherwisenotified skippers meeting will be at 08.30 at a convenient cafe or if not available on the Commodores boat.

Start Procedure Commodore’s boat will act as the “Rabbit” which starts the race by approaching below the windward mark on Port tack. The other entrants cross behind him on Starboard tack. The “rabbit” may trail a fender which you must start behind without touching. The start of the rabbit’s run will be pre- announced by VHF and if you don’t cross on the initial run, you may cross behind the rabbit at any time before the rabbit rounds the windward mark, after which you will be deemed to have failed to start. The race will be considered to have started when the first boat crosses the rabbit’s wake. This procedure is explained in more detail on the next page. For Starts the “rabbit” should be easily spotted out. The start areas will have land marks which we may use as “line up” with the commodores boat as start line so listen to commands on the radio.

Finishing Procedure The finishing line will be defined as a bearing to a conspicuous mark and please record your own finishing time using the time display on your GPS. The normal time limit for each leg will be 18:00.

Penalties and Protests A single 360° turn is the penalty for breaking a rule (“reduced” to 180° if protested!!). We’re not expecting any protests as we’re here to enjoy ourselves!

Anchors / Genakers Anchors can be left in place on the bow when racing, but don’t use it to make holes in other yachts, especially the “rabbit” at the start!

All yachts are equipped with similar Genakers and cruising chutes.Jib poles and other equipment, such as boat-hooks are prohibited and shall not to be used.

Radio Check / VHF Procedure We will have a radio check every morning when leaving the harbour and before preparing for the start. Additional radio checks may be requested at any time an das deemed to be necessary.

Mooring Fees

All Skippers will be responsible for their own mooring fees . The normal practice is that the ships papers are collected by the harbour staff, sometimes minutes after berthing , before departure the next day arrange to pay the charge and collect the ships papers. The charge varies between Euro 5.00 – 80.00 per night. The first and last night marina fees for Trogir Marina are included in the charter price.

Yacht Tracker

We understood that all yachts will have a radio with a GPS Chip installed.

This feature enable us to track and record each boat on a special software, and in case of any disputes, to clarify the situation. The verdict of the commodore is final.

We will have a printer on board for printing the daily results. However, the results of the day will also be electronically send to each skipper after the skippers meeting.

Dinghi Race

We decide that the dinghy race this year will run under no theme. Anyway this should be a “Fun Event” and we have the idea that mostly all crew member should be involved in different competitions. We have some options where this event can take place. Details will be shown in the logbook, and additional announcement at the skippers meeting.

Restaurants

Regarding restaurants we found and experienced many that were typical Croatian and as usual please check carefully your bill before payment, occasionally the waiter’s memory or arithmetic malfunctions. Please note that VAT tax has been increased to 25% early this year.

This ESC 2017 is a fun-regatta among good friends, i.e. safety first for all participants !!

All skippers are fully responsible for safety and good seamanship on board of each yacht in particular when sailing around

islands, reefs or otherwise close to shore. If no gates are defined keep well clear of shallow water. Always watch out for ferries and other sea traffic, they can move very fast.

All Indicated waypoints shall be passed nearby with a maximum distance of 0,5 nm. On the first leg we cross the trajectory of the ferries from and to Split. They pass through the same passage, as we will be using between the waypoint 3 and 4 first leg. As it is still early in season, we hope there will not be many yet.

ESC 2017 is governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing ISAF (WRS) from 2013 to 2016, the given sailing instructions and this Logbook.

In addition the following regulations shall apply:

For safety the rules as per Special Regulations, Category 4 of the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC)

The anti-doping rules of the Austrian National Sports Organization

All recorded times must be GPS times

Boat positions must be reported as e.g. Latitude Longitude: N 39° 22.3400' ; E 020° 08.0815' (minutes with 4 decimals)

Radio communication channel is Ch 72

Radio emergency channel is Ch 16

Starting Instructions (Rabbit Start) see below more detailed instructions

Declaration slips are at the back of the logbook, please complete and bring to Commodores Boat as soon after racing as possible

Make note of time and boat ahead and astern at all numbered waypoints ( if visible). This waypoints may also serve as alternative finish dependent on weather conditions and will be announced by Commodore.

Just in case, the commodore’s boat is arriving late in a port, please keep always the best spot free at the pier. This makes it easier for his crew to get to communicate and collect the declarations of the fleet.

The town of Trogir is literally a museum, its historic town centre having been a UNESCO World HeritageSite since 1997. Listing all the astonishing sites in this medieval town, which took its current shapebetween the 13th and 15th centuries, would take an inordinate amount of time. However, pride of placecertainly goes to the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, with its famous portal by Master Radovan, located in thenarrow main street lined with Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque palace fronts. The oldest symbol of Trogirwould be Kairos, the ancient Greek god of the right or opportune moment, the 3rd-century BC relief ofwhom is preserved in the Benedictine convent, partly open for visitors during the summer season.A bridge allowing the passage of boats of up to 2.80 metres in height connects the old town centre withthe island of Čiovo where ACI Marina Trogir is located. The marina is open all year round and offers a fabulous view of the charming promenade of Trogir and of St. Lawrence’s Cathedral bell tower. Visitorsmay think that time stands still in this town, but the energy of its citizens who live in happy symbiosis withthe ever-inquisitive tourists will soon convince them otherwise.Did you know…?…that 1.5 km east of Trogir there is a 500-metre shingle and sand beach backed by a pine forest, andnearby is Komarac (“Mosquito”) beach, very popular with young people. The most popular and mostbeautiful beach on the Trogir Riviera is the Okrug Gornji beach on the western coast of the island of Čiovo, 2 km from Trogir town centre.…that bird-watching tourism is developing rapidly in Pantan Nature Park, the site appearing on the radarof many bird-watchers from all over the world in recent years. The park is easily reached because of itsproximity to the town centre – it is a mere 2 km away.…that Trogir is considered to be the best-preserved Romanesque-Gothic town in all of Central Europe.
