TRIO DMITRIJ

I had the pleasure to meet with Trio Dmitrij during the summer of 2014, when they approached me in order for us to work together on their repertoire. Even though Trio Dmitrij has only been founded in 2007, they already have accomplished quite a bit in such a short period of time because they are not afraid of taking risks and despite their success they have remained humble. Since then, a continuous research started on di�erent aspects of Chamber Music, in a continous exchange of opinions.�e idea of celebrating by this transcription the genious of Shostakovich is typical of their creativity, of the freshness that belongs to their art and life, of their evident musical and human connection.In "Foxtrot" they whistle a theme with the harmonics of the violin and commit to the piano the theme that in the original version was performed by concertmaster until you get to the use of "pizzicato" near the bridge to reproduce the metallic sounds typical of instruments like banjo and Hawaiian guitar. Henry, Michele and Alessandro didn't create a simple transcription but they have also added elements that re�ect their personalities, their music-making and the essence of their Trio.

Ho avuto il piacere di conoscere il Trio Dmitrij nella calda estate romana del 2014 quando vennero a parlare con me manifestando l'intenzione di perfezionare il loro repertorio. Considerando che è una formazione esistente nel panorama musicale già dal 2007, hanno dimostrato l'umiltà che deve appartenere ad ogni musicista, quella capacità di mettersi in gioco senza adagiarsi sui successi. Una ricerca fatta di momenti di confronto e ragionamento su diversi aspetti della musica da camera, in un costante scambio utile ad accrescere le conoscenze.L'idea di celebrare il genio di Shostakovich con questa trascrizione appartiene al loro estro, a quella freschezza che li contraddistingue, al legame musicale e umano che manifestano �n dal primo incontro. Nel Foxtrot "�schiettano" un tema con gli armonici del violino e a�dano al pianoforte il tema che nella versione originale è eseguito dalla Spalla dell'orchestra �no ad arrivare all'utilizzo dei pizzicati eseguiti vicino al ponticello per riprodurre quei suoni metallici tipici degli strumenti a pizzico (banjo e chitarra hawaiana). Henry, Michele ed Alessandro non si sono infatti limitati ad una semplice trascrizione ma in alcuni punti hanno inserito elementi caratterizzanti che rispecchiano le loro personalità, il loro far musica e l'essenza del loro trio.
