Community Thanksgiving Service – 7:00 p.m. 11/24 at Bryn Zion Baptist Church
Thanksgiving is fast approaching. Thanksgiving, of course, is all about the giving of
thanks. Not that we only give thanks one day a year. But how do we give thanks? Often, we say, “Thank you” to someone who has blessed or helped us in some way. How do we “say thanks” and express our appreciation to the Lord for all He has done for us? One way we say thanks to God for all His blessings is through our giving. But in 2 Corinthians chapter 9 the Apostle Paul says, “God loves a cheerful giver.” Cheerful giving is not just about how much we give to help the church budget or to community or missions organizations (although these are very important!). Always remember that our giving is about God. The cheerful giver gives with the attitude of gratitude, my gift is about God, for God and will be blessed by God. Cheerful giving is an act of love and worship in relationship with God. Our giving is just one of the ways we show God how much we appreciate His blessings.
Another way to show God our gratitude is to consider Thanksgiving as “thanksliving.” In this case we show God our appreciation not just by what we give but by the way we live. Paul says in Romans 12:1 to present our bodies, really our entire selves, to God as living sacrifices. The idea is that we can’t pay for our salvation, only Jesus could do that, and he did by sacrificing his life on the cross. We can’t pay for our salvation, but we can say, “Thank you, Lord, for what you
have done for me,” and we can do this by the way we live our lives. I recently heard it put this way in the form of a question: Is Jesus my hobby or is He my life? Being a “living sacrifice” means making Jesus the focus of my entire life.
Is Christ our life, or is He just a religious hobby?
Happy Thanksgiving and “Thanksliving” to all!
God bless, Pastor Jeff

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN NEWS
Happy November UMW Ladies.
Thank you to Barb Brewer who led the World Thank and pledge service at our October meeting. If you haven’t completed your pledge for 2019 please see Barb. We have pledged $1692.00 to the district for missions so we will need to replenish our treasury with fundraisers.
We have two fundraising dinners to serve in November. The Emergency Responders on Saturday, 11/16 and the Gideons on Monday, 11/18. We are also providing a light breakfast for the District Mission Team on Saturday, 11/9.
In addition we have our Apple Dumpling fundraiser this month. Orders need to be in by Sunday, Nov. 3 and pickup is Nov. 17th. Thank you to all who donated to this cause. If you enjoy working in the kitchen we will be making the apple dumplings Tuesday, 11/12 from approximately 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 – 9:00 pm. Many hands make light work!
In other business we voted to keep the same officers (1 more year) and voted on the Special Mission Recognition Award.
District President Nancy Burdsall has requested the Mt. Gilead Trinity Unit be District Historians for 2020. If anyone would like to be on that committee to help with district photography and scrapbooking, please let Marilyn or Amy know.
There will be no regular meeting in November.
Blessings to you!

“Time to Thank, Time to Share”
Thanksgiving is a time to share. A roasted turkey stuffed with care, potatoes, yams and buttered rolls are passed around in festive bowls. But first we thank our God above and share with others his great love.
The dish served last is always best — a slice of pie for every guest. — MaryAnn Sundby
APPLE DUMPLINGS UMW is again making apple
dumplings as way to make money for our
missions project. They would be
frozen in individual foil containers that you can keep frozen for the holidays or bake and enjoy right away. These YUMMY apple
dumplings will come with baking directions and a container of sauce to pour over your dumplings. Sugar free will be available.
Cost is $4.00 each. Deadline for orders is Sunday, November 3rd at noon. Orders
will be ready for pickup on Sunday November 17th after each service. Please pre-order on the sign-up sheet in the
church office or by calling the church office (419) 947-6040 with your order. Thank you!
Fueled by thankfulness
Thankfulness is not a minor virtue. It is not one of the elementary
virtues [that] may be left behind as we become
more mature. I believe that thankfulness is
essential to the strength of every virtue,
and that without it every other branch is starved and lean.
Life without thankfulness is devoid of
love and passion. Hope without thankfulness is lacking in fine perception.
Faith without thankfulness lacks strength and fortitude. Every virtue divorced from thankfulness is maimed and limps along
the spiritual road. — John Henry Jowett
Mission Committees
Trim the Tree for Clothes Closet and Heartbeat
This year the Mission
Committee will be overseeing the clothing
tree for children in the Narthex. In the past the tree has been exclusively
for donations to the Clothes Closet, but this year we are expanding our support to include clothing
for Heartbeat. The tree will go up early in November and we hope it will be decked
with necessities for infants, toddlers and school age children.
The Clothes Closet needs: New underpants for school - age children - The boys really like boxers.
(NO TEE SHIRTS! The children don't wear them anymore) New socks
New or gently used gloves suitable for playing in snow. (The thin stretchy
ones don't keep hands warm and dry)
Heartbeat needs: New or used infant clothes
New or used toddler clothes (especially toddler sized jeans)
Diapers in sizes 1-5 Baby wipes
Missions Committee
Notice:
Next year Mission Committee will have
three regularly scheduled meetings.

Tuesday, February 11 at 7:00 PM
Tuesday, June 9 at 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 PM
