He talks of the importance of combining faith with deeds as being the hallmark of the follower of Jesus. I recall someone once providing a shorthand of what James is saying. It goes like this: “It is not faith and work, and it’s not faith or works. It is faith that works.” As we continue to seek to live out our calling to advance the vision God has set before us, I am pleased that we have such a dedicated team of people who seek to act on their beliefs. That is one of the great strengths of Trinity. I write this just after our outdoor worship service at the Ramsey County Fair. This was a great example of people pulling together to help live out our calling to love our neighborhood and world. The staff, a dedicated team of volunteers, the Neighborhood Engagement Team (NET), and congregation worked diligently to ensure an event that glorified God and helped others see what God is doing in our midst. I want to thank all who are daily working to put belief into action, and to encourage all of us to continue to seek to do the same. Let’s keep moving forward – together! In Christ, Pastor Peter Staff - Out and About Pastor Peter has been working with consultants from Converge North Central as part of the VIP Phase 2 project. They have been very encouraging about all the hard work that is being done at Trinity! Director of Worship and Music Ebony Ramquist will be the speaker at a retreat for teen girls from churches all over MN at Mink Lake Girls Camp this month. Please continue to pray for the staff as they seek to live out their calling to serve.

Acting on Belief

In his epistle, the apostle James writes about the relationship between faith and deeds (or action). He talks of the importance of combining faith with deeds as being the hallmark of the follower of Jesus. I recall someone once providing a shorthand of what James is saying. It goes like this: “It is not faith and work, and it’s not faith or works. It is faith that works.”

As we continue to seek to live out our calling to advance the vision God has set before us, I am pleased that we have such a dedicated team of people who seek to act on their beliefs. That is one of the great strengths of Trinity. I write this just after our outdoor worship service at the Ramsey County Fair. This was a great example of people pulling together to help live out our calling to love our neighborhood and world. The sta,, a dedicated team of volunteers, the Neighborhood Engagement Team (NET), and congregation worked diligently to ensure an event that glorified God and helped others see what God is doing in our midst. I want to thank all who are daily working to put belief into action, and to encourage all of us to continue to seek to do the same. Let’s keep moving forward – together!

In Christ, Pastor Peter

Ninth Annual Backpack Fund Drive

Now Underway Since 2008, Trinity has raised funds for school supplies to fill backpacks for children at Edgerton Elementary - and we’re doing it again this year! Director of Children’s Ministries Mindy Boe, who is supervising this drive, says, these gifts will enable her to purchase in bulk and get a uniform selection of supplies. The goal this year - 200 backpacks or $4,000. If you wish to donate to this cause, checks can be made out to Trinity; write “Backpacks” on the memo line. Filled backpacks will be distributed to Edgerton students at the “Edgerton Elementary Backpack Giveaway and Picnic,” on Wednesday, August 31. Details below!

You are invited to the Backpack Giveaway

and Picnic

Date: Wednesday, August 31 Time: 4:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Place: Trinity’s south parking lot In addition to the backpack giveaway to Edgerton Elementary students, there will be picnic food including hot dogs, burgers, and possibly an assortment of Asian food. Also, information about many of Trinity’s ministries will be available. Please come at 3:45 pm, to help set up and then to greet our guests. If you plan to attend, please contact Mindy Boe.

Join us in for a ministry fair

With every new ministry year, there are lots of new opportunities to get involved. We will be having a Ministry Fair on Sundays, August 21 and 28, to showcase opportunities

and give people a chance to sign up. There will be information about Trinity's ministries available from 10:00 - 10:30 am, and 11:30 am - Noon. Come explore new ways to serve and exercise your gifts as God calls you! If you are a leader of a ministry and would like to be part of this fair, please contact Renee Nelson in the church oHce during oHce hours before Wednesday, August 17. Please note: Due to limited space, there will be two ministries per table.

Trinity’s Missionary of the Month Ken and Debby Milhous

Serving with Converge - working with the Japanese in Somerville, Massachusetts

The Milhous’ are reaching Japanese in the greater Boston area through the ministry of the Boston Japanese Christian Church. Most of the Japanese in Boston are here temporarily and will return to Japan. Ken & Debby also provide ongoing encouragement and support for those who have returned to Japan, enabling them to continue in their faith and become active in the local church. Ken serves as the Director of Japanese Ministry, facilitating the support and expansion of Converge Japanese ministry in the United States.

Interested in joining Trinity’s telephone

prayer chain?

Trinity uses a telephone prayer chain to communicate urgent prayer needs to those who do not use email. This chain is available to anyone who attends Trinity. If you have a prayer request, please contact Darlene Ripley (651-368-9317) or Bonnie Newman (651-748-8944). Here’s how the prayer chain works: A prayer request comes to Darlene or Bonnie, they call the first member on their list, and then that first member calls the next person, etc. If you would like to participate in this ministry, please contact Darlene or Bonnie. If you are currently on the list, and wish to remain, do nothing. A new telephone prayer list will be mailed shortly. For those who wish to be apart of our email prayer chain, please email Tracy Rud at [email protected].

Need to put an event on the church calendar?

Because our building is so heavily used, please be sure to notify us as soon as possible if you wish to schedule an event, committee meeting and/or reserve a room. You can do this two di,erent ways: 1) Visit our website (tbcmn.org), click on the calendar page, then click on the “request room form”

and fill out the form accordingly; or 2) find a paper copy of this same form in the church oHce (lower right mailbox). This will help avoid conflicts. Also, if you change your plans, please notify the oHce as soon as possible.
