    START A BUSINESS

    With support from Trickle Ups localpartner agency, Achiron received trainingand a Trickle Up seed capital grant tostart a kitchen garden. She sold thegourds and cucumbers at the nearby

    market and put new business skills likeplanning and record-keeping into practice.

    SAVE FOR THE FUTURE

    Achiron joined a Trickle Up savings andcredit group to begin building her savingsand financial skills, while also boosting herself-confidence. Along with other membersin this self-help group, she benefited frompeer learning, the solidarity of the group, and a

    greater voice in her community.

    STABILIZE THE FAMILY

    As her kitchen garden began to generate income,as well as food for her family, Achiron looked toensure her family would never go hungry again.With training from Trickle Ups partner agency,she started a second business: a fish pond, anadditional source of income and much-neededprotein to her familys diet.

    GROW

    With her businesses thriving, Achiron decided it wastime to grow. With a loan from heirself-help group, sheopened a small shop that sells household supplies, toysand personal care products. Near a major road and theonly shop in her village, this lucrative venture has givenher the income she needs to pay for medical expenses,send all her children to school, and obtain a sanitarylatrine, reducing the risk of disease.

    ACHIRON BIBI exemplifies the dynamism and drive of Trickle Up participants who work tocreate pathways out of extreme poverty for themselves and their families.

    From a rural village in West Bengal, India, Achiron was married when she was 11. Now at age 25,she has four children and lives in a two-room hut made of mud and straw, with no toilet, runningwater or electricity.
