“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17
Trials the Greatest Blessings
“The Lord has often given me a view of the situation and wants of the scattered jewels who have not yet come to the light of the present truth, and has shown that the messengers should speed their way to them as fast as possible, to give them the light. Many all around us only need to have their prejudices removed and the evidences of our present position spread out before them from the Word, and they will joyfully receive the present truth. The messengers should watch for souls as they that must give account. Theirs must be a life of toil and anguish of spirit, while the weight of the precious but often-wounded cause of Christ rests upon them. They will have to lay aside worldly interests and comforts and make it their first object to do all in their power to advance the cause of present truth and save perishing souls. “They will also have a rich reward. In their crowns of rejoicing those who are rescued by them and finally saved will shine as stars forever and ever. And to all eternity they will enjoy the satisfaction of having done what they could in presenting the truth in its purity and beauty, so that souls fell in love with it, were sanctified through it, and availed themselves of the inestimable privilege of being made rich, and being washed in the blood of the Lamb and redeemed unto God.
“I saw the necessity of the messengers, especially, watching and checking all fanaticism wherever they might see it rise. Satan is pressing in on every side, and unless we watch for him, and have our eyes open to his devices and snares, and have on the whole armor of God, the fiery darts of the wicked will hit us. There are many precious truths contained in the Word of God, but it is “pres-ent truth” that the flock needs now. I have seen the danger of the messengers running off from the important points of present truth, to dwell upon subjects that are not calculated to unite the flock and sanctify the soul. Satan will here take every possible advantage to injure the cause.
“If the chosen messengers of the Lord should wait for every obstacle to be moved out of their way, many never would go to search for the scattered sheep. Satan will present many objections in order to keep them from duty. But they will have to go out by faith, trusting in Him who has called them to His work, and He will open the way before them, as far as it will be for their good and His glory. Jesus, the great teacher and pattern, had not where to lay His head. His life was one of toil, sorrow, and suffering; He then gave Himself for us. Those who, in Christ’s stead, beseech souls to be reconciled to God, and who hope to reign with Christ in glory, must expect to be par-takers of His sufferings here. “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalm 126:5, 6.” Early Writings, 61.1-2; 63.1,3

About our MinistryFin or future-is-now is a ministry active in the German speaking countries and run by Seventh-Day-Adventists. We have set ourselves the task of promulating the last warning message in Revelation 14 as it is found in the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy. The biblical statements regarding the times of the end are being fulfilled today before our very eyes. The historic and prophetic understanding of the Seventh-Day-Adventists has become the present truth. We are the last generation. Our focus is the Prophetic Word but also each and every council God gives us through His Word. Wanting to know what the future holds is of no use to us unless we are already making experiences and being steadfast in these serious times. Through obedience towards the Word of God and through faith in God’s promises we will be given this experience.
Together with the prophetic message, fin puts great emphasis on the missionary health work, the latter being considered an ‘entry wedge’ that needs to be particularly realised by those who wish to accomplish God’s work during the last hours of earth’s history.
In our times, country life becomes increasingly important each day. Fin proclaims and upholds these truths of the end times. God’s people have to prepare for the coming storm. This pre-paration requires experience and we need to learn how to live and survive in a simple manner – far away from the big cities.
Future-is-now is a charity registered at the Stuttgart district court under registration num-ber VR 386. Declared a non-profit organization by the financial authorities of Heilbronn, future-is-now is exempt from taxation and is authorised to issue donation certificates.

Bible Study
The Agriculture Model
The study on the subject of the agricultural model is a matter of public record. This sub-ject includes the study of Jeremiah 4, Hosea 10, Matthew 13 and Mark 4. If someone is not fa-miliar with that study we suggest to read the study booklet Wheat & Tares as well as to study the chart on the subject of wheat and tares.
From the study of the agriculture model we take the truth that a field needs to be plowed before it is ready to be planted. All the thorns get plowed under in this plowing process. Once the field is free from all thorns, it is now ready to be planted. And he said, “So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.” Mark 4:26-29
As we just read in Mark 4, this seed which was planted germinates and starts to grow to full maturity until it is ready for the harvest.
Knowing this we shall ask ourselves who/what does this plant represent. Christ spoke in par-ables which were to convey a specific lesson. Rule #10 of William Millers rules tell us that symbols can have more than one meaning. So it is also with the subject of the plant that has to grow from a seed to its full maturity. On one side we can apply this to the present truth movement as a group, but we can also apply this to an individual. In this article we will focus on the individual line. Let us see now what Sister White tells us about this growth of the plant.
Perfect at Every Stage
“The germination of the seed represents the beginning of spiritual life, and the develop-ment of the plant is a beautiful figure of Chris-tian growth. As in nature, so in grace; there can be no life without growth. The plant must either grow or die. As its growth is silent and imperceptible, but continuous, so is the de-velopment of the Christian life. At every stage of development our life may be perfect; yet if God’s purpose for us is fulfilled, there will be continual advancement. Sanctification is the work of a lifetime. As our opportunities multi-ply, our experience will enlarge, and our knowl-
Often trials assail us in our lives which cause us to be discouraged. We ask ourselves why does this have to happen to me, and why right now? We are tempted to think as the Jews of old did, that trials are a punishment of the Lord. However, what if they are the opposite? What if trials are the greatest blessing the Lord can bestow on us? Not to discourage us but to refine us. This is the subject of this article, to show how the Lord uses trials in order to bring us into full maturity.
Trials are the Greatest Blessings of GodThe Growing of the Wheat to Full Maturity

edge increase. We shall become strong to bear responsibility, and our maturity will be in pro-portion to our privileges.” COL, 65.2
This one quote from Sister White gives much input on the life of the plant. She parallels the life of the plant with our spiritual life. Therefore this plant can represent us and the growth our spiritual individual walk with the Lord. The beginning of this plant, when the seed is planted, is our beginning of spiritual life. It is when we have accepted the truth of the Lord. From that moment on Sister White emphasizes that we must grow or we will die. This growth is silent but it steadily continues. This is how our spiritual life is to be. It shall never cease to grow, otherwise it will die.
Another very important fact that Sister White points out here, is that the plant is at every stage perfect. The plant is not only perfect when the fruit is ripe but when the plant is in the form of a seed it is still perfect. When the plant has germinated, it is perfect. When it develops fruit and matures, it is perfect. It is prefect at every step even though it has not fully grown. So it is also with us. To be perfect means to be righteous. At every step of our spiritual walk we are to be perfect and righteous. This is sanctification, to keep righteousness (the perfect state) all the way through. However there is still some growth to do. Often we think that this growing process involves some kind of sin. That growing means to sin less. However this is not what Sister White and the Bible teaches us. The plant is perfect all the way through, from the seed to the mature fruit. There is no sin involved, otherwise there could be no righteousness. If a baby is not capable of walking, is it not per-fect? Because a small child is not grown yet as an adult, is not perfect? Even the growth of a human being shows us that there is perfection at every step.
So if the growth does not have to do with us sinning less, what is the growth then? Sister White gave us the answer in the quote: “As
our opportunities multiply, our experience will enlarge, and our knowledge increase. We shall become strong to bear responsibility, and our maturity will be in proportion to our privileg-es.” The growth has to do with gaining expe-rience and by this experience to learn and be-come stronger. This is the growth we all need to obtain. We would not expect from a child what we would expect from a grown adult. But as a child grows it obtains more experience and therefore matures. The same we are to do with our spiritual walk. The Lord does not expect from a plant that just had germinated what he would expect from a plant that has fully grown. The growth is at every step, at ev-ery opportunity, to do the right thing, to obey the Lord, and to give heed to his modeling pro-cess. This way we can see how the growing process is not about sinning less but rather to gain experience and maturity in the individual walk with the Lord.
Growing Up – Do the Work at Every Step
“The only way to grow in grace is to be disin-terestedly doing the very work which Christ has enjoined upon us – to engage, to the extent of our ability, in helping and blessing those who need the help we can give them. Strength comes by exercise; activity is the very condi-tion of life. Those who endeavor to maintain Christian life by passively accepting the bless-ings that come through the means of grace, and doing nothing for Christ, are simply trying to live by eating without working. And in the spiritual as in the natural world, this always results in degeneration and decay. A man who would refuse to exercise his limbs would soon lose all power to use them. Thus, the Christian who will not exercise his God-given powers not only fails to grow up into Christ, but he loses the strength that he already had.” SC, 80.3
To grow up means to do the work the Lord has given us at every step. From the model of the plant we learned that the plant has to either grow or die. Here Sister White gave us the
7
EDITION 01
same lesson. Either someone uses their limbs or the limbs will lose the power. This is the same with our spiritual walk with the Lord. If you do not use it, you will lose it. We are to be careful to have our eyes open so see what is the duty the Lord wants us to do at the pres-ent time and then we are to perform that duty. If we obey we will gain spiritual progress, the plant shall grow. If not we will lose the power and eventually the plant dies.
The Lord has for everyone a specific work to do. It is our job to learn to hear the voice of God to know what he wants us to do. Howev-er it is also a matter of public record that on a general line, all who have understood and be-lieve in the present truth, have one job. Let us consider this job in the next section.
The Job
Our job as present truth believers we find in Ezekiel 2 & 3. We are to take the message the Lord has given us and give it to God´s people the SDA church here at the end of the World. In those chapters we also read that Israel (God´s people) will not hearken to the message. So why then bother going there? There are two reasons why we should obey the word of the Lord to go to the house of Israel. The first one find in chapter 2.
And they, whether they will hear, or wheth-er they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. Ezekiel 2:5
The reason why we have to bring the message to the SDA church is that everyone knows that the Lord has chosen a prophet and that the message was given to the church and they just did not want to listen to it. This way God´s church does not have any excuse saying that they did not know about present truth. This is one important aspect of why we as present truth believes are to carry the message to the SDA church. The second important reason we find in chapter 3.
Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads. As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house. Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears. Ezekiel 3:8-10
Another reason why we should go and give the message to SDAs is that we obtain a forehead hard as adamant. What does this mean, and why is it so important? Let us first consider what adamant means.
The Forehead - Hard as Adamant
adamantadəm(ə)nt/adjectiveadjective: adamant1. refusing to be persuaded or to change one’s mind. „he is adamant that he is not going to resign“
2. synonyms: unshakeable, immovable, inflexi-ble, unwavering, uncompromising, resolute, re-solved, determined, firm, rigid, steadfast
Both adamant and diamond derive from the Greek word ἀδάμας, ἀδάμαντος (adamas, ada-mantos), meaning „untamable“
Adamant essentially is the same as a diamond. It is the hardest stone there is. It is unshake-able, uncompromising. So when we are to go the SDA church, to deliver a message, the Lord´s promise is to give us a forehead un-shakable, untamable and uncompromising. What does the forehead represent? Why is it the forehead and not another body part. Let us look why the forehead is to important.
Frontal Lobe
Behind our forehead is the brain part called frontal lobe. Let us see what the job function of this brain part is.
8
EDITION 01
“The function of the frontal lobe involves the ability to project future consequences result-ing from current actions, the choice between good and bad actions (or better and best) (also known as conscience), the override and sup-pression of socially unacceptable responses, and the determination of similarities and dif-ferences between things or events.” Wikipedia. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frontal_lobe)Using the frontal lobe we make decision. We discern between right and wrong, we can see future consequences and we can decide. So when we bring both aspects together now of what it means that the Lord will give us a forehand as hard as adamant then it means that the Lord will make your decisions strong, unshakable, untamable and uncompromising. This is exactly what we need here at the end of the world. How do we obtain it? By obeying the Lord by bring the final warning message to the SDA church.
Seal of God
When we look at the subject of the sealing we will find that this process of becoming un-shakable is the sealing. Once you can not be shaken anymore is when the seal is impressed on you. Where is the seal places on you? Right, it is on the forehead.
“Now is the time to prepare. The seal of God will never be placed upon the forehead of an impure man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of the ambitious, world-lov-ing man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of men or women of false tongues or deceitful hearts. All who receive the seal must be without spot before God, – candidates for heaven. Search the Scriptures for yourselves, that you may understand the fearful solemnity of the present hour.” CET, 191.2
“Just as soon as the people of God are sealed in their foreheads – it is not any seal or mark that can be seen, but a settling into the truth, both intellectually and spiritually, so they can-
not be moved – just as soon as God’s people are sealed and prepared for the shaking, it will come. Indeed, it has begun already; the judg-ments of God are now upon the land to give us warning, that we may know what is coming.” MS 173, September 15,1902 par.25
Receiving the seal of God means to have ful-ly exercised to use your will power to always choose right. It has become part of our nature to do and go what ever the Lord wants us to do or want us to be. How is it that we are exer-cising? Well besides all the personal (which we will consider later), we receive that exercise by bringing the message to the SDA church.
From Ephesians 6 we know that we are soldiers who are to put on the entire armor of the Lord. However what is a soldier? A soldier is a per-son who has trained himself for the purpose of fighting. A soldier had to go though a edu-cation process where he would learn skills and techniques in order not to die in battle but ob-tain the victory. During the training often sol-diers fight against one another in order to get the needed practice. When the opponent hit a weak spot, the soldier needed to strengthen his weak points until perfection. The result of this training process was a elite soldier ready for battle. The same it is for us. The biggest and last battle, between good and evil, is right in front of us and we are to be trained as soliders in the army of Christ. Before we can enter the battlefield the Lord sends us to training. Where is this training? It is the field of the SDA church. There is is where we obtain our skill. We realize our weak spots that we ought to strengthen and perfect before the battle commences. It is when we bring the message to SDAs that we obtain this training of seeing where are need to become stronger. We have seen this in the past with subjects like the daily, the glorious land, the 2520, the millerite movement, the na-ture of man, the sanctuary and so on … carrying the message to the SDA Church has caused us to become experts in these subjects because by carrying the message to the SDA Church we
9
EDITION 01
faced opposition on every side. This showed us our weak spots and we were to strengthen these spots by further study, receiving light by the Lord. The SDA church is our training in or-der to get ready for when we are to carry the message to the world. This process of carrying the message to the Church will strengthen our faith as well as help us to obtain the experience that we are so fully settled into the truth that we will not be shaken. Once we have obtained this state we are sealed and ready for the bat-tle we will soon face.
This is our job as present truth believes (repre-senting Ezekiel at the end of the world) to carry the message to the SDA Church, so that there is no excuse for Adventism that they did not know. As well as we also receive an experience which will cause us to be fully settled into the truth so that we can not be shaken anymore. This being said in the next section we would like to focus a little more on this training part-ner of a soldier.
Tares
In Matthew 13 we find the growth of the plant, which we already discussed. However the wheat does not grow “alone”. Something grows next to it.
“Another parable put he forth unto them, say-ing, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together un-til the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will
say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.” Matt. 13:24-30
Tares are growing next to the wheat. And we saw from Sister White that the wheat is per-fect at every stage of its growth. Just as the wheat is perfect at every stage, so also the tares are perfect in every stage. Perfect in what? Perfect in the work they are doing. What is the work they are performing? The designed work for the tares is to annoy the wheat. Just as a training partner will not favor you, so the tares will not favor the wheat. If your training partner spears you, would you really learn? No you would not. So it is also the relationship between the wheat and the tares. The tares are the training partner to the wheat. They are performing a perfect work. This is how the wheat will become stronger. Let us first look at what the tares do.
“Not all the names that stand registered in the church books will at last appear in the Lamb’s book of life. There are tares among the wheat. There are betrayers, accusers, trai-tors, in the camp. These will wound, misrep-resent, and falsely accuse you. They are false brethren, meddlesome and indiscrete, stum-bling-blocks to others. They are doing a work for Satan far more successfully than if they were not connected with the church. Some who have not spiritual discernment will fail to distinguish between the false and the true, and will highly esteem those who have no connection with God. Those who have been indifferent and neglectful, and have failed to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the truth, will be deceived. They do not compre-hend the first principles of doctrine and expe-rience, which secure to man the perfection of Christian character.” RH, January 8, 1884, par.15
“The growth of the tares among the wheat would draw special attention to it. The grain would be subjected to severe criticism. Indeed, the whole field might be set down as worthless
10
EDITION 01
by some superficial observer, or by one who delighted to discover evil. The sower might be condemned by him, as one who had min-gled the bad seed with the good for his own wicked purpose. Just so the erring and hypo-critical ones who profess to follow Jesus bring reproach upon the cause of Christianity, and cause the world to doubt concerning the truths of Christ. As the presence of the tares among the wheat counteracted to a great degree the work of the sower, so sin among the people of God frustrates, in a measure, the plan of Jesus to save fallen man from the power of Satan and render the barren ground of the human heart fruitful of good works.” 2SP, 248
“The sincere believers of truth are made sad, and their trials and sorrows greatly increased, by the elements among them which annoy, dis-hearten, and discourage them in their efforts. But the Lord would teach His servants a les-son of great carefulness in all their moves. ‘Let both grow together.’ Do not forcibly pull up the tares, lest in rooting them up the precious blades will become loosened. Both ministers and church members should be very cautious, lest they get a zeal not according to knowledge. There is danger of doing too much to cure dif-ficulties in the church, which, if let alone, will frequently work their own cure. It is bad policy to take hold of matters in any church prema-turely. We shall have to exercise the greatest care, patience, and self-control to bear these things and not go to work in our own spirit to set them in order.” 3T, 113
The tares cause trouble to the wheat. They an-noy, dishearten, discourage, accuse, criticise and so on. What is it that we are to develop here at the end of the world? A character of patience, love and kindness, enduring every-thing. Well, how do we obtain those traits? Is it when we live in a world full of perfection? No, we will not. It is when difficulties and tri-als arise that patience, love and self control are the hardest to exhibit. From that perspective we can see how these trials (the tares) are our
training partner. The do not favor us, but rather the opposite. They show us our weak spots and increase the pressure on us. Going through this training we are to strengthen our weak spots and become an elite solider for the Lord, exhib-iting the character of Christ. Therefore as al-ready suggested, the tares represent the train-ing partner of the wheat and by accomplishing this task they perform a “perfect” work.
The World Can Only be Warned
“The work of the Holy Spirit is to convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judg-ment. The world can only be warned by seeing those who believe the truth sanctified through the truth, acting upon high and holy principles, showing in a high, elevated sense, the line of demarcation between those who keep the commandments of God and whose who tram-ple them under their feet. The sanctification of the Spirit signalizes the difference between those who have the seal of God and those who keep a spurious rest day.” 7BC, 980
Sister White talks here about how the world can be warned. However by knowing from Ezekiel 2 & 3 that we are first to go to the SDA Church, how is it that the SDA Church is warned? Based upon The Great Controversy, 343 we know that Gods dealing with men is ever the same. Therefore the way the world is to be warned (by seeing those who believe the truth sanctified through the truth) the Church is simply warned in the same way.
The SDA Church has to see that those people who are professing to be the church trium-phant also live what they preach. Where are our goals? What are our desires, our dreams? What do we talk about? How do we act, dress, and eat? Can people see that we truly believe that we live at the end of the world? Christ gave us the best example on how to influence the people around us.
“There is an eloquence far more powerful than the eloquence of words in the quiet, consis-
11
EDITION 01
tent life of a pure, true Christian. What a man is has more influence than what he says.
“The officers who were sent to Jesus came back with the report that never man spoke as He spoke. But the reason for this was that never man lived as He lived. Had His life been other than it was, He could not have spoken as He did. His words bore with them a convincing power, because they came from a heart pure and holy, full of love and sympathy, benevo-lence and truth.
“It is our own character and experience that de-termine our influence upon others. In order to convince others of the power of Christ’s grace, we must know its power in our own hearts and lives. The gospel we present for the saving of souls must be the gospel by which our own souls are saved. Only through a living faith in Christ as a personal Saviour is it possible to make our influence felt in a skeptical world. If we would draw sinners out of the swift-run-ning current, our own feet must be firmly set upon the Rock, Christ Jesus.” MH, 469.1-3
If we want to convict people of the present truth message, then a good start would be to also live the present truth.
The Discipline of Trial
“To live such a life, to exert such an influence, costs at every step effort, self-sacrifice, dis-cipline. It is because they do not understand this that many are so easily discouraged in the Christian life. Many who sincerely consecrate their lives to God’s service are surprised and disappointed to find themselves, as never be-fore, confronted by obstacles and beset by tri-als and perplexities. They pray for Christlike-ness of character, for a fitness for the Lord’s work, and they are placed in circumstances that seem to call forth all the evil of their na-ture. Faults are revealed of which they did not even suspect the existence. Like Israel of old they question, “If God is leading us, why do all these things come upon us?”
“It is because God is leading them that these things come upon them. Trials and obstacles are the Lord’s chosen methods of discipline and His appointed conditions of success. He who reads the hearts of men knows their charac-ters better than they themselves know them. He sees that some have powers and suscepti-bilities which, rightly directed, might be used in the advancement of His work. In His prov-idence He brings these persons into different positions and varied circumstances that they may discover in their character the defects which have been concealed from their own knowledge. He gives them opportunity to cor-rect these defects and to fit themselves for His service. Often He permits the fires of affliction to assail them that they may be purified.
“The fact that we are called upon to endure trial shows that the Lord Jesus sees in us some-thing precious which He desires to develop. If He saw in us nothing whereby He might glorify His name, He would not spend time in refin-ing us. He does not cast worthless stones into His furnace. It is valuable ore that He refines. The blacksmith puts the iron and steel into the fire that he may know what manner of metal they are. The Lord allows His chosen ones to be placed in the furnace of affliction to prove what temper they are of and whether they can be fashioned for His work.
“The potter takes the clay and molds it ac-cording to his will. He kneads it and works it. He tears it apart and presses it together. He wets it and then dries it. He lets it lie for a while without touching it. When it is perfect-ly pliable, he continues the work of making of it a vessel. He forms it into shape and on the wheel trims and polishes it. He dries it in the sun and bakes it in the oven. Thus it becomes a vessel fit for use. So the great Master Worker desires to mold and fashion us. And as the clay is in the hands of the potter, so are we to be in His hands. We are not to try to do the work of the potter. Our part is to yield ourselves to be molded by the Master Worker.

“‘Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: but rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s suffer-ings; that, when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.’ 1 Peter 4:12, 13
“In the full light of day, and in hearing of the music of other voices, the caged bird will not sing the song that his master seeks to teach him. He learns a snatch of this, a trill of that, but never a separate and entire melody. But the master covers the cage, and places it where the bird will listen to the one song he is to sing. In the dark, he tries and tries again to sing that song until it is learned, and he breaks forth in perfect melody. Then the bird is brought forth, and ever after he can sing that song in the light. Thus God deals with His children. He has a song to teach us, and when we have learned it amid the shadows of affliction we can sing it ever afterward.” MH, 470-472
In this passage Sister White is very clear. The Lord uses trials in order to show and strength-en our weak spots. Our work is to simply yield to the process the Lord is guiding us through. If we faithfully perform this duty the promise is that we will grow and bring forth mature fruit.
“And he brings forth fruit ‘with patience.’ None who receive God’s word are exempt from difficulty and trial; but when affliction comes, the true Christian does not become restless, distrustful, or despondent. Though we cannot see the definite outcome of affairs, or discern the purpose of God’s providences, we are not to cast away our confidence. Remembering the tender mercies of the Lord, we should cast our care upon Him, and with patience wait for His salvation.
“Through conflict the spiritual life is strength-ened. Trials well borne will develop steadfast-ness of character and precious spiritual graces. The perfect fruit of faith, meekness, and love often matures best amid storm clouds and darkness.” COL, 60.4- 61.1
In Contact With Others
Previously we talked about how it is our job based upon Ezekiel 2 & 3 to bring the message to the SDA Church and how this will cause us to see our weak spots, strengthen them and receive a forehead of adamant. Often this pro-cess is connected with many trials. However also just contact with our fellow man can of-ten cause trials. This is another training field we should not neglect to consider.
“Every association of life calls for the exercise of self-control, forbearance, and sympathy. We differ so widely in disposition, habits, educa-tion, that our ways of looking at things vary. We judge differently. Our understanding of truth, our ideas in regard to the conduct of life, are not in all respects the same. There are no two whose experience is alike in every partic-ular. The trials of one are not the trials of an-other. The duties that one finds light are to an-other most difficult and perplexing.
“So frail, so ignorant, so liable to misconcep-tion is human nature, that each should be care-ful in the estimate he places upon another. We little know the bearing of our acts upon the experience of others. What we do or say may seem to us of little moment, when, could our eyes be opened, we should see that upon it depended the most important results for good or for evil.” MH, 483-1,2
Forbearance Under Wrong
“We should not allow our feelings to be easily wounded. We are to live, not to guard our feel-ings or our reputation, but to save souls. As we become interested in the salvation of souls we cease to mind the little differences that so of-ten arise in our association with one another. Whatever others may think of us or do to us, it need not disturb our oneness with Christ, the fellowship of the Spirit. ‘What glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and
13
EDITION 01
suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is accept-able with God.’ 1 Peter 2:20
“Do not retaliate. So far as you can do so, re-move all cause for misapprehension. Avoid the appearance of evil. Do all that lies in your pow-er, without the sacrifice of principle, to concil-iate others. ‘If thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.’ Matthew 5:23, 24.” MH, 485.2,3
“We are prone to look to our fellow men for sympathy and uplifting, instead of looking to Jesus. In His mercy and faithfulness God often permits those in whom we place confidence to fail us, in order that we may learn the folly of trusting in man and making flesh our arm. Let us trust fully, humbly, unselfishly in God. He knows the sorrows that we feel to the depths of our being, but which we cannot express. When all things seem dark and unexplainable, remember the words of Christ, ‘What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereaf-ter.’ John 13:7
“Study the history of Joseph and of Daniel. The Lord did not prevent the plottings of men who sought to do them harm; but He caused all these devices to work for good to His servants who amidst trial and conflict preserved their faith and loyalty.
“So long as we are in the world, we shall meet with adverse influences. There will be provo-cations to test the temper; and it is by meet-ing these in a right spirit that the Christian graces are developed. If Christ dwells in us, we shall be patient, kind, and forbearing, cheerful amid frets and irritations. Day by day and year by year we shall conquer self, and grow into a noble heroism. This is our allotted task; but it cannot be accomplished without help from Jesus, resolute decision, unwavering purpose, continual watchfulness, and unceasing prayer. Each one has a personal battle to fight. Not
even God can make our characters noble or our lives useful, unless we become co-workers with Him. Those who decline the struggle lose the strength and joy of victory.” MH, 486.7-487.2
The Needed Experience
“Many have not had that religious experience that is essential for them, that they may stand without fault before the throne of God. The furnace fires of affliction He permits to be kin-dled upon them to consume the dross, to re-fine, to purify and cleanse from the defilement of sin, of self-love, and to bring them to know God and to become acquainted with Jesus by walking with Him as did Enoch.” HP, 87, 2
“Our happiness and salvation depend upon eating the bread of life; that is, obeying the words and doing the works of Christ, advanc-ing righteousness and restraining unrigh-teousness. Nothing can give such self-reliance, such courage, such an increase of talents and ability, as a true estimate of the requirements of God’s Law ... Love for Jesus Christ leads us to obey God’s commandments, which are a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, securing for us the illuminating, purifying, blissful pres-ence of both the Father and the Son. He who is obedient can commune with God even as did Enoch.” SD, 194,3-4
The Work of Satan
When we commit our lives to Christ and believe in present truth we make ourselves enemies. Satan and all his followers will work against us in ways which often are very concealed. We have to understand that we play a part in the battle between light and darkness. We should not take things light but rather be watchful on every part to not allow Satan to use us as his agent, to become aware of situations and things where Satan is trying to distract from our present duty. We need to cut everything out from us and our lives which separate us
14
EDITION 01
from being made aware of our present duty as well as performing it.
“The great controversy between Christ and Sa-tan, that has been carried forward for nearly six thousand years, is soon to close; and the wick-ed one redoubles his efforts to defeat the work of Christ in man’s behalf and to fasten souls in his snares. To hold the people in darkness and impenitence till the Saviour’s mediation is end-ed, and there is no longer a sacrifice for sin, is the object which he seeks to accomplish.
“When there is no special effort made to resist his power, when indifference prevails in the church and the world, Satan is not concerned; for he is in no danger of losing those whom he is leading captive at his will. But when the attention is called to eternal things, and souls are inquiring, “What must I do to be saved?” he is on the ground, seeking to match his power against the power of Christ and to counteract the influence of the Holy Spirit.
“The Scriptures declare that upon one occa-sion, when the angels of God came to present themselves before the Lord, Satan came also among them (Job 1:6), not to bow before the Eternal King, but to further his own malicious designs against the righteous. With the same object he is in attendance when men assemble for the worship of God. Though hidden from sight, he is working with all diligence to con-trol the minds of the worshipers. Like a skill-ful general he lays his plans beforehand. As he sees the messenger of God searching the Scrip-tures, he takes note of the subject to be pre-sented to the people. Then he employs all his cunning and shrewdness so to control circum-stances that the message may not reach those whom he is deceiving on that very point. The one who most needs the warning will be urged into some business transaction which requires his presence, or will by some other means be prevented from hearing the words that might prove to him a savor of life unto life.
“Again, Satan sees the Lord’s servants bur-
dened because of the spiritual darkness that enshrouds the people. He hears their earnest prayers for divine grace and power to break the spell of indifference, carelessness, and indo-lence. Then with renewed zeal he plies his arts. He tempts men to the indulgence of appetite or to some other form of self-gratification, and thus benumbs their sensibilities so that they fail to hear the very things which they most need to learn.” GC, 518, 519
“The great controversy between Christ and Satan, that has been carried on for almost six thousand years, is soon to close. And yet how few have their attention called to this mat-ter, how few realize that we are living amid the closing scenes of earth’s history! Satan is working diligently, binding his sheaves prepa-ratory to gathering in his harvest. He is unit-ing the elements of his kingdom for the final struggle. Since his fall, he has been the great adversary of God and man, and has shown a masterly activity in trying to defeat our Sav-iour’s efforts in our behalf. He thinks that be-cause so many readily yield to his temptations and believe his lies, he may yet gain some ad-vantage over Christ, who left the royal courts of Heaven that he might defeat this wily foe on his own battle-field, and open a way where-by man might escape from his cruel power.
“He is called in the Bible, Satan, Beelzebub, the serpent, the deceiver, a liar, the accuser of the brethren, the prince of the power of the air, the prince of darkness, and the god of this world. Frightful names, infernal agencies! This fall-en spirit, so malignant and subtle, is walking about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. When there is no special effort made to resist his power, when profound indiffer-ence prevails in the church and in the world, he is not concerned; for he is in no danger of losing those whom he is leading captive at his will. But when the attention is called to eternal things, and souls are inquiring, “What shall I do to be saved?” he is on the ground, seeking to match his power against the power of Christ,

EDITION 01
and doubling his efforts to counteract the in-fluences of the Holy Spirit. Angels of God, with Jesus at their head, are present to press back the powers of darkness; but no one is forced to accept Jesus, and no one can be compelled by Satan’s power to reject him.
“Satan is at your side when you least suspect it, watching to find a weak spot in your armor, where he can introduce his darts, and wound your soul by betraying you into sin. He has access to minds that are open to receive his suggestions, and by long experience he has learned how to apply his temptations to the best advantage. His first effort is to keep as many minds as possible in a state of careless indifference. He will invent every imaginable excuse to keep people away from meetings where they might receive benefit from hear-ing the truth. He will especially work to make of none effect these morning meetings, where the Spirit of God is at work; and when he can-not keep persons away, his next effort will be to fill the mind with unimportant matters, thus preventing them from treasuring up the truths they hear.
“This work Satan is engaged in at every meet-ing. He has different temptations prepared for different minds, and souls are continual-ly yielding to his suggestions. He will adopt any means by which he may gain control of the thoughts and purposes of the heart. He will work to divert the mind from Heaven and heavenly things by the absorbing cares of this life. He will produce temporary indisposition to keep you away from meetings where tes-timonies from Heaven will be borne, and your hearts would be impressed with the deep mov-ings of the Spirit of God. If you attend the meetings, and your heart is impressed, he will tempt you to engage in unprofitable conver-sation on trivial things, so that you will forget the words spoken.
“Circumstances will arise to divert the mind. Visitors, relatives, or worldly friends, or some temporal matter, will engage the attention;
and then ‘cometh the devil, and taketh the word out of their hearts, lest they should be-lieve and be saved.’ These friends will make de-mands upon your time and strength, and thus God is robbed of the service due him. Yet you flatter yourselves that you cannot do other-wise; for how can you displease your friends? God will not bring a curse upon you for thus robbing him, but your own course of action brings its sure result. But however alluring Satan’s temptations, however natural and un-avoidable they may seem to the mind that is not clear and sharp in spiritual discernment, you must not be lulled to carnal security. How-ever dear your friends may be, if they lead you away from God they are emissaries of Satan, who works through the children of disobedi-ence, speaks through human organs.
“God will not work a miracle to change natu-ral causes which you can control. If you place yourself and family in the current of the world, you and your children will be borne downward by it. Be wise and discriminating in regard to spiritual advantages, and gather about your-selves and your children correct influences. We may have a beautiful and fertile country; but surrounding influences may be weaving a spell upon our souls that will sink us to perdi-tion, and our children may be lost to the cause of God because we did not place them where they would cultivate a love for divine things. We may save our own souls, as did Lot when he fled from Sodom; but the habits and customs with which we have become familiar may cling to us, and we may find that we have assimilat-ed to them more than we were aware. This is a risk that we cannot afford to run. We might better lose every worldly advantage than to lose Jesus, or dishonor him by our careless in-attention to his requirements. It is best to obey God at any sacrifice.” ST, May 8, 1884, par. 1-6
The Greatest Blessing of our Lives
“Temptation is enticement to sin, and this does not proceed from God, but from Satan and
16
EDITION 01
from the evil of our own hearts. ‘God cannot be tempted with evil, and He Himself tempteth no man.’ James 1:13 , R.V.
“Satan seeks to bring us into temptation, that the evil of our characters may be revealed be-fore men and angels, that he may claim us as his own. In the symbolic prophecy of Zecha-riah, Satan is seen standing at the right hand of the Angel of the Lord, accusing Joshua, the high priest, who is clothed in filthy garments, and resisting the work that the Angel desires to do for him. This represents the attitude of Satan toward every soul whom Christ is seek-ing to draw unto Himself.
The enemy leads us into sin, and then he ac-cuses us before the heavenly universe as un-worthy of the love of God. But ‘the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?’ And unto Joshua He said, ‘Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.’ Zechariah 3:1-4
“God in His great love is seeking to develop in us the precious graces of His Spirit. He permits us to encounter obstacles, persecution, and hardships, not as a curse, but as the greatest blessing of our lives. Every temptation resist-ed, every trial bravely borne, gives us a new ex-perience and advances us in the work of char-acter building. The soul that through divine power resists temptation reveals to the world and to the heavenly universe the efficiency of the grace of Christ.
“But while we are not to be dismayed by tri-al, bitter though it be, we should pray that God will not permit us to be brought where we shall be drawn away by the desires of our own evil hearts. In offering the prayer that Christ has given, we surrender ourselves to the guidance of God, asking Him to lead us in safe paths. We cannot offer this prayer in sincerity, and yet decide to walk in any way of our own choosing.
We shall wait for His hand to lead us; we shall listen to His voice, saying, ‘This is the way, walk ye in it.’ Isaiah 30:21
“It is not safe for us to linger to contemplate the advantages to be reaped through yielding to Satan’s suggestions. Sin means dishonor and disaster to every soul that indulges in it; but it is blinding and deceiving in its nature, and it will entice us with flattering presenta-tions. If we venture on Satan’s ground we have no assurance of protection from his power. So far as in us lies, we should close every avenue by which the tempter may find access to us.
“The prayer, ‘Bring us not into temptation,’ is itself a promise. If we commit ourselves to God we have the assurance, He ‘will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.’ 1 Corinthians 10:13
“The only safeguard against evil is the indwell-ing of Christ in the heart through faith in His righteousness. It is because selfishness exists in our hearts that temptation has power over us. But when we behold the great love of God, selfishness appears to us in its hideous and repulsive character, and we desire to have it expelled from the soul. As the Holy Spirit glo-rifies Christ, our hearts are softened and sub-dued, the temptation loses its power, and the grace of Christ transforms the character.
“Christ will never abandon the soul for whom He has died. The soul may leave Him and be overwhelmed with temptation, but Christ can never turn from one for whom He has paid the ransom of His own life. Could our spiritual vi-sion be quickened, we should see souls bowed under oppression and burdened with grief, pressed as a cart beneath sheaves and ready to die in discouragement. We should see angels flying swiftly to aid these tempted ones, who are standing as on the brink of a precipice. The angels from heaven force back the hosts of evil that encompass these souls, and guide them to plant their feet on the sure foundation. The
17
EDITION 01
battles waging between the two armies are as real as those fought by the armies of this world, and on the issue of the spiritual conflict eternal destinies depend.
“To us, as to Peter, the word is spoken, ‘Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: but I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not.’ Luke 22:31, 32 Thank God, we are not left alone. He who ‘so loved the world, that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life’ (John 3:16), will not desert us in the battle with the adversary of God and man. ‘Behold,’ He says, ‘I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.’ Luke 10:19
“Live in contact with the living Christ, and He will hold you firmly by a hand that will never let go. Know and believe the love that God has to us, and you are secure; that love is a fortress impregnable to all the delusions and assaults of Satan. ‘The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.’ Proverbs 18:10
“The last like the first sentence of the Lord’s Prayer, points to our Father as above all power and authority and every name that is named. The Saviour beheld the years that stretched out before His disciples, not, as they had dreamed, lying in the sunshine of worldly prosperity and honor, but dark with the tempests of human hatred and satanic wrath. Amid national strife and ruin, the steps of the disciples would be beset with perils, and often their hearts would be oppressed by fear. They were to see Jerusa-lem a desolation, the temple swept away, its worship forever ended, and Israel scattered to all lands, like wrecks on a desert shore. Jesus said, ‘Ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars.’ ‘Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.’
Matthew 24:6-8. Yet Christ’s followers were not to fear that their hope was lost or that God had forsaken the earth. The power and the glory belong unto Him whose great purposes would still move on unthwarted toward their con-summation. In the prayer that breathes their daily wants, the disciples of Christ were direct-ed to look above all the power and dominion of evil, unto the Lord their God, whose kingdom ruleth over all and who is their Father and ev-erlasting Friend.
“The ruin of Jerusalem was a symbol of the fi-nal ruin that shall overwhelm the world. The prophecies that received a partial fulfillment in the overthrow of Jerusalem have a more di-rect application to the last days. We are now standing on the threshold of great and solemn events. A crisis is before us, such as the world has never witnessed. And sweetly to us, as to the first disciples, comes the assurance that God’s kingdom ruleth over all. The program of coming events is in the hands of our Maker. The Majesty of heaven has the destiny of na-tions, as well as the concerns of His church, in His own charge. The divine Instructor is say-ing to every agent in the accomplishment of His plans, as He said to Cyrus, ‘I girded thee, though thou hast not known Me.’ Isaiah 45:5
“In the vision of the prophet Ezekiel there was the appearance of a hand beneath the wings of the cherubim. This is to teach His servants that it is divine power which gives them success. Those whom God employs as His messengers are not to feel that His work is dependent upon them. Finite beings are not left to carry this burden of responsibility. He who slumbers not, who is continually at work for the accomplish-ment of His designs, will carry forward His own work. He will thwart the purposes of wicked men, and will bring to confusion the counsels of those who plot mischief against His people. He who is the King, the Lord of hosts, sitteth between the cherubim, and amid the strife and tumult of nations He guards His children still. He who ruleth in the heavens is our Sav-

iour. He measures every trial, He watches the furnace fire that must test every soul. When the strongholds of kings shall be overthrown, when the arrows of wrath shall strike through the hearts of His enemies, His people will be safe in His hands.
“‘Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the pow-er, and the glory, and the victory, and the maj-esty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Thine.. … In Thine hand is power and might; and in Thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.’ 1 Chronicles 29:11,12.” MB, 116.2-122.1
Closing Thoughts
Often trials which assail us in our life cause us to be discouraged and dismayed. But we should change our way of approach when tri-als appear in our life. Sister White taught us
that trials are the greatest blessings of our lives. They are the chosen means of the Lord to teach us about our weak spots and strength-en us in our growth. This growth can be repre-sented by wheat that is planted as a seed and grows to a full plant which brings forth mature fruit. The plant is perfect (righteous) at every step. From Matthew 13 we drew the thought that the tares (trials), which grow next to the wheat are the “training partner“ to the wheat, which causes the wheat to grow to full maturi-ty and strength by settling into the truth both, intellectually and spiritually. This settling into the truth is also described as the sealing or the forehead becoming as hard as adamant. May it be the desire of everyone of us to choose the path of obedience to the commandments of the Lord, to carry the present truth message to the SDA church and obtain the designed and essential experience by it.

The Importance of Publishing Work
This article is designed to call attention to the need for and the importance of the publica-tion work. In order to do so, we must go back and examine the beginning of this great work.
Turning Points
“There are periods which are turning points in the history of nations and of the church. In the providence of God, when these different crises arrive, the light for that time is given. If it is received, there is spiritual progress; if it is rejected, spiritual declension and ship-wreck follow.” BEcho, August 26, 1895
There are turning points in the history of na-tions and of the church. One such a turning point is that of the invention of the printing press by Johannes Gutenberg – a turning point of incredible stature in world history.
During this era, the world was spiritually and intellectually (for commoners) dark and cloud-ed under the effects of papal oppression. Things that are commonplace today that we take for granted, such as calendars and watch-es to keep dates and time, or even compasses for direction, did not exist at this time. What did exist, however, were books and writings that were not made available to the common person because of their forced illiteracy. Only those who possessed elite status had the priv-
Tell the Worldby Tamina Blasing
ilege of reading and writing and therefore ruled the people by default. This group of elit-ists were those who held titles of royalty and those of the Roman clergy. Written works de-rived from Pagan Rome that would have aided in the advancement of technology and medi-cine were buried beneath the heavy darkness of papal rule, suppressing any furthering of the intellect.
Around the year 1400, a man named Johannes Gutenberg, was born in Mainz, Germany. The name Johannes means “Yahweh is gracious”; Gutenberg means “good mountain”.
The city of Mainz was established by Pagan Rome. This name is derived from a Celtic god and means “the great one”. Gutenberg died on February 26, 1468.
Gutenberg was a blacksmith and a goldsmith – skills that allowed him to take upon himself the taxing and lengthy task of developing a printing press. From the time he began in 1436, his fervent and persevering efforts availed much. By the year 1449/50, he developed the first movable type printing system in Europe. How this was a turning point in the history of the world will be elaborated upon as we prog-ress in this study. One important point to note though, is that turning points do not always only possess positive connotations. They of-ten involve crises. Do we see a crisis in this time period? Yes – the fall of Constantinople.

Let us examine how secular sources view Gutenberg’s work:
“In 1997 the printing of Gutenberg was de-clared to be the most significant invention of the second millenium by the US-Magazine Time-Life.” Wikipedia.
“Francis Bacon writes in his Novum Organum 1620: ‘No kingdom, no religion, no star had a bigger impact on the human affairs than printing, black powder and compass.’” Ibid.
The invention of the compass is not appreciat-ed today. This device is what allowed mankind to travel and explore new lands in other parts of the world that would never have been expe-rienced otherwise. The introduction of black powder advanced the tactics of warfare – an invention still valued to the present day. And, the development of the printing press holds its own significance in the same manner.
“For Elizabeth L. Eisenstein was printing a ‘revolution’. There existed only a few com-parable fundamental milestones as the in-vention of language, orality, the invention of writing and script culture, as well as the invention of the computer and the digitiza-tion.” Ibid.
That printing is associated with terms such as ‘revolution’ and ‘milestone’ should indicate something to us as students of prophecy. The printing press merits the same platform we would give to the indispensable inventions of computers, digitization, and the internet. In God’s work today, the use of technology for the advancement of this message is imperative. In addition to this, we see how such a matter has become the premier focus of the topics we are currently grappling with in present truth as we consider the Information War taking place at this very moment. Hence, we can label these inventions as ‘turning points’ as well.
“Gutenberg’s innovations in movable type printing have been called the most import-ant invention of the second millennium.” Ibid.
“The printing press rapidly spread across Eu-rope, leading up to the Renaissance, and later all around the world.” Ibid.
The introduction of the printing press served as an impetus for new inventions during the 14th-17th centuries, also known as the Renais-sance. Numerous well-known inventions were born in this time period, but the printing press takes the trophy. Why? Because it was an in-vention that aided intellectual advancement. People now had access to means by which they could publish and disseminate their ideas or communications faster than ever before.
“In Renaissance Europe, the arrival of me-chanical movable type printing introduced the era of mass communication, which per-manently altered the structure of society. The relatively unrestricted circulation of information and (revolutionary) ideas tran-scended borders, captured the masses in the Reformation and threatened the pow-er of political and religious authorities. The sharp increase in literacy broke the monop-oly of the literate elite on education and learning and bolstered the emerging middle class.” Ibid.
Mass communication became a reality. Secu-lar opinion says that this threatened the pow-er of political and religious authorities in the time period of the Protestant Reformation. If the writings of Luther (the premier figure of the Reformation) were not able to have been circulated as rapidly as they were – credits to the printing press – the Reformation would not have been a success. The mass printing of books, something seemingly trivial, is what ul-timately led to the defeat of the satanic power of the papacy. As we approach the very end of the world, it has become increasingly evident that the deadly wound to the papacy is steadi-ly healing. The greatest storm of all time is just before us. How do we counter this overflowing scourge? There are several possibilities, but one we should consider is that of the publish-ing work.
21
EDITION 01
As notated earlier, mass printing led to mass communication. This single-handedly weak-ened the hand of political and religious au-thorities. If we consider for a moment the characteristics of a dictator, a preliminary course of action most often observed is that of the suppression and restriction of the rights of the press. In the United States, such an act would be in violation of the first amendment of the Constitution: freedom of speech and freedom of the press. For some time now, this movement has taught that President Donald Trump is not only the last president of the United States, but he will also become a fierce dictator. He is already exhibiting such charac-teristics. The press has virtually become his archenemy and he is actively pursuing the sup-pression of whatever he deems ‘fake news’.
The Change
To ascertain some of the changes the world saw in publishing, secular authors tell us that authorship became extremely significant in more ways than one. Something as sim-ple as documenting who wrote a work, what they said, when they wrote it, and including such particulars within written works gave an added interest to this new phenomena of printing. Books and written works began to be fashioned with more creative and aesthet-ically pleasing appearances. The interior now assumed more structured designs with the addition of things like a title page or a table of contents. This may seem trivial to us today, but these changes played a massive role in or-ganizing the printing work.
In the present truth movement today, we are making a similar production, in that we are organizing the manner in which we circulate our material. Messages presented by voice are penned and distributed. Not only do the mes-sages shared bear their own significance con-tent-wise, but the dates and times they are spoken or published are meaningful as well. For instance, take the studies of Samuel Snow.
Every date of his published letters have been deemed nothing less than notable and worthy of our attention. Does history repeat? Yes—therefore, bearing this in mind, we should be attentive to the very same occurrences that transpire in our history.
“The printing press was an important step towards the democratization of knowledge. Within 50 or 60 years of the invention of the printing press, the entire classical can-on had been reprinted and widely promul-gated throughout Europe (Eisenstein, 1969; 52). More people had access to knowledge both new and old, more people could discuss these works. Book production became more com-mercialized, and the first copyright laws were passed. On the other hand, the printing press was criticized for allowing the dissem-ination of information which may have been incorrect.
“A second outgrowth of this popularization of knowledge was the decline of Latin as the language of most published works, to be re-placed by the vernacular language of each area, increasing the variety of published works. The printed word also helped to uni-fy and standardize the spelling and syntax of these vernaculars, in effect ‘decreasing’ their variability. This rise in importance of national languages as opposed to pan-Euro-pean Latin is cited as one of the causes of the rise of nationalism in Europe.” Ibid.
The work of mass publishing led to an increase of knowledge among the people. Written words made available in every dialect was no longer a dream; it was now tangible and offered people the enjoyment of experiencing a wider lens of education in secular and religious realms. The previous passage attests to the fact that the weakening of the dominance that the Latin language boasted for ages is principally at-tributed to the printing press. Moreover, the printing press strengthened and unified lo-cal languages. The perfect illustration of this is that of the German Bible. Prior to Luther’s
22
EDITION 01
translation of the Bible from Latin to German, there were many dialects of the German lan-guage. Post-translation, the German people now had a more unified language and were able to read the Bible with their own eyes and minds, since it was no longer in Latin.
“By 1450, the press was in operation, and a German poem had been printed, possibly the first item to be printed there. Gutenberg was able to convince the wealthy moneylender Johann Fust for a loan of 800 guilders. Peter Schöffer, who became Fust’s son-in-law, also joined the enterprise. Schöffer had worked as a scribe in Paris and is believed to have designed some of the first typefaces.
“Gutenberg’s workshop was set up at Hof Humbrecht, a property belonging to a dis-tant relative. It is not clear when Gutenberg conceived the Bible project, but for this he borrowed another 800 guilders from Fust, and work commenced in 1452. At the same time, the press was also printing other, more lucrative texts (possibly Latin gram-mars). There is also some speculation that there may have been two presses, one for the pedestrian texts, and one for the Bible. One of the profit-making enterprises of the new press was the printing of thousands of indulgences for the church, documented from 1454 to 1455.
“In 1455 Gutenberg completed his 42-line Bible, known as the Gutenberg Bible. About 180 copies were printed, most on paper and some on vellum.” Ibid.
Two opposing powers used the influence of mass printing to their advantage: God through His appointed servants, and Satan through the abominable institution of the papacy. The Lord used this cutting-edge (at the time) technolo-gy to convey truth to His people through the printing of the Bible and other written works. Luther’s writings spread like wildfire, causing a great revival amidst the darkness of Papal Rome. The printing press made the Reforma-
tion unstoppable to any and all opponents. The papacy, on the other hand, also used this meth-od. In the year 1454/55, they began to print indulgences. In 1455/56, papers were printed to promote the crusades in the middle east at the time. As is Satan’s custom to counteract every work of God, he did not skip a beat when it came to the dissemination of information through the means of the printing press; his efforts always aim to keep people in darkness.During this same time period, Gutenberg be-gan the printing of calendars; a profound work that allowed for the keeping of dates.
“What the world is today, good and bad, it owes to Gutenberg. Everything can be traced to this source, but we are bound to bring him homage, … for the bad that his colossal in-vention has brought about is overshadowed a thousand times by the good with which mankind has been favored.” American writer Mark Twain (1835−1910).” Ibid.
New Books vs. Old Books
In this day and age, physical books are steadi-ly becoming “old-fashioned”. People are now more accustomed to staring at a screen than they are to holding an actual book to obtain in-formation. PDFs, e-books, or any online sourc-es are now the norm. Modern technology is the method of choice, subordinating paper books. There is no denying the immense blessing all of us as individuals and as a movement receive from the benefits of technology, but we can-not refute the impact reading an actual book has upon the reader versus that of a screen.
1 “Hypertext Fiction Reading: Haptics and Im-mersion” is an article about this very dilemma. It seeks to make clear the distinction between the impacts of reading paper books and writ-ten works versus that which is offered in mod-

ern technology. The conclusion of the matter is this: when we read a physical book, we are able to better remember what was written therein and its location thereof. How? For example: when our hands grasp a book, our sub-conscience remembers what position our hands were in, taking note of what portion of the book we read something that stood out to us based upon the thickness of each side of the book. Another way we are affected by the physicality of books is that our eyes will re-member particular points we fixated on. Read-ing a screen is less likely to help us remem-ber such things because screens only involve scrolling and clicking.
This theory can be explained through an ex-periment that required all of its participants to read information on a screen and on paper. After reading information on a screen, the par-ticipants were asked surface questions about what they read, and were able to answer them with ease. But, when asked deeper questions, they found themselves inadequate.
However, when they read information on pa-per and were again asked both surface and more meaningful questions, they were far more equipped to answer this time around. This is due to the fact that when we read from a screen, our brain is constantly looking for new input or information that will captivate our attention. A computer easily distracts its user because of the enormity of activities that are only a scroll or a click away. On the other hand, scientists have concluded that reading a book excludes such distractions. Another interesting conclusion was that looking at a screen captivates the mind in an entirely new way, causing the user to be in a more imaginary state than they would be when reading a book. This is evidenced when we watch movies. The brain “shuts off,” and we are completely drawn into a different world, mesmerized. Filmmak-ers employ specific principles to accomplish this. Their aim: to enthrall their audience. One way they achieve this is by changing the pic-
ture or scene every 8 seconds. Otherwise, the attention and interest of the viewer are lost.
To bring the above information to our current situation in present truth: Technology is good and serves its purpose. However, taking the aforementioned scientific conclusions into account, we must take great care in that we avoid reading the Bible or Inspiration sole-ly using our mobile devices or computers. It would do us well to make striving efforts to read and use actual books for our studies, that our capability of internalizing and remember-ing this message (which is so essential for our salvation) are enhanced to the utmost.
The First Angel’s Message
“The message of Revelation 14, proclaiming that the hour of God’s judgment is come, is given in the time of the end; and the angel of Revelation 10 is represented as having one foot on the sea and one foot on the land, showing that the message will be carried to distant lands, the ocean will be crossed, and the islands of the sea will hear the proclama-tion of the last message of warning to our world.” 2SM, 108
The first angel, which is also the angel of Reve-lation 10, proclaims the last message of warn-ing to our world – God’s judgment is come. Generically, how are messages conveyed? By pen and/or voice. How far did the first angel’s message reach?
“The Advent movement of 1840-44 was a glorious manifestation of the power of God; the first angel’s message was carried to ev-ery missionary station in the world, and in some countries there was the greatest reli-gious interest which has been witnessed in any land since the Reformation of the six-teenth century.” GC (1888), 611.
The first angel’s message was carried to ev-ery missionary station in the world. Hence, we may call it a worldwide message. Our message

today is to be no different. We, too, must give a worldwide message. In fact, the present truth has already reached many parts of the world. And, like the first angel’s message, this mes-sage will also be conveyed by pen and voice.
To draw our minds back to the existing con-trast between modern technology and books, let us consider the following:
Though we may be able to construct a compar-ison between books and articles from Millerite history to the video-recorded presentations in our day, we must not forget that videos only employ one method of presenting a message: voice. If this were the only means by which we sought to understand truth, we would be neglecting a very important element the Lord uses for this same cause: pen – the power of the publishing work and the written Word.
How Many Books/Articles has Ellen White Written?
Here is an interesting tidbit about the exten-sive publishing work Sister White did:
“At the time of her death Ellen White’s literary productions totaled approximately 100,000 pages: 24 books in current circulation; two book manuscripts ready for publication; 5,000 periodical articles in the journals of the church; more than 200 tracts and pam-phlets; approximately 35,000 typewritten pages of manuscript documents and letters; 2,000 handwritten letters and diary materi-als comprising, when copied, another 15,000 typewritten pages. Compilations made after her death from Ellen White’s writings bring the total number of books currently in print to more than 130.” Ellen G. White Estate.
Midst of Heaven
When is the first angel’s message given to the world?
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to
preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. Revelation 14:6, 7.
This passage shows the first angel flying through the midst of heaven and preaching the everlasting gospel to everyone on earth, to every nation, kindred, and tongue. As stu-dents of prophecy, we should take note of where the angel gives this message: “the midst”. This word “midst” means “middle”. The middle or center point of the duration of the seventh month movement was referred to by the Millerites as “midnight” or “midway”. In today’s present truth movement we label “midnight” as “Raphia”. From Raphia (which in the recent past has been assigned a date) onward is the period in which the everlasting message is to be proclaimed to the world. This event marks the starting point of the Priests’ public ministry in which they will proclaim this message to the remainder of God’s flock, those who for so long have been scattered.
Our Work
“A great work must be done all through the world, and let no one conclude that because the end is near there is no need of special effort to build up the various institutions as the cause shall demand. … When the Lord shall bid us make no further effort to build meetinghouses and establish schools, sani-tariums, and publishing institutions, it will be time for us to fold our hands and let the Lord close up the work, but now is our oppor-tunity to show our zeal for God and our love for humanity. – 6T, 440 (1900).” LDE, 80
We are living at the end of the world. The Lord is soon to close His glorious work. Though this truth is self-evident, Sister White provides us with instructive counsel that these circum-
25
EDITION 01
stances are not to weaken our zeal or taper off our efforts in this work. On the contrary, we are to carry it forward, more zealous than ever, and continue to the end. Such a work includes the setting up of schools, sanitariums, and publishing institutions. Therefore, the work of writing and publishing this message must endure until the Lord chooses to end His work.
“The truth presented by the living preacher should be published in as compact a form as possible, and circulated widely. As far as practicable, let the important discourses given at our camp meetings be published in the newspapers. Thus the truth which was placed before a limited number may find ac-cess to many minds. And where the truth has been misrepresented, the people will have an opportunity of knowing just what the minister said. – 6T, 37 (1900).” CW, 140
Here lies our responsibility: we are to compose those truths presented in videos, and publish them in our newspapers. Thus, as the prophet states, misunderstandings and misrepresen-tations can be resolved, and the truths spoken will be able to reach those who cannot and did not hear them. We have witnessed this very thing as of recent. A brother contacted us say-ing that he had come across our publishing material laying around at a church on Sabbath, opened it and found our website and contact information, and informed us of how happy it made him that he found present truth! May we never underestimate the impact our publish-ing work has on its readers.
The Other Angel
“Our publishing work was established by the direction of God and under His special super-vision… Seventh-day Adventists have been chosen by God as a peculiar people, separate from the world. By the great cleaver of truth He has cut them out from the quarry of the world, and brought them into connection with Himself. He has made them His repre-
sentatives, and has called them to be ambas-sadors for Him in the last work of salvation. The greatest wealth of truth ever intrust-ed to mortals, the most solemn and fearful warnings ever sent by God to man, have been committed to them to be given to the world; and in the accomplishment of this work our publishing houses are among the most ef-fective agencies.” 7T, 138
“In a large degree through our publishing houses is to be accomplished the work of that other angel who comes down from heaven with great power, and who lightens the earth with his glory.” Ibid., 140.
“I am bidden to say to our publishing houses: ‘Lift up the standard; lift it up higher. Pro-claim the third angel’s message, that it may be heard by all the world. Let it be seen that ‘here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.’ Revelation 14:12. Let our literature give the message as a wit-ness to all the world.” ChS, 147, 148
Adventism was entrusted with the most sol-emn message in earth’s history and was com-missioned by God Himself to proclaim that message. And, Sister White informs us that our publishing houses are among the most effective agencies to accomplish that work. The work of the fourth angel (which we mark as coming down on 9/11 when the Twin Tow-ers fell by the overturning power of the Lord), which is the glory of the angel of Revelation 18, is in a large degree accomplished by pub-lished material. Our present truth message needs to be formalized in written form and published in books, pamphlets, and study ma-terial. More than ever before, this task should be a primary focus, since time is running out to give the warning message to those who have not heard it.
Silent Messenger
“The time has come when a large work should be done by the canvassers. The world
26
EDITION 01
is asleep, and as watchmen they are to ring the warning bell to awake the sleepers to their danger. The churches know not the time of their visitation. Often they can best learn the truth through the efforts of the canvasser. Those who go forth in the name of the Lord are His messengers to give to the multitude who are in darkness and error the glad tidings of salvation through Christ in obeying the law of God.
“I have been instructed that even where the people hear the message from the living preacher, the canvasser should carry on his work in cooperation with the minister; for, though the minister may faithfully present the message, the people are not able to re-tain it all. The printed page is therefore es-sential, not only in awakening them to the importance of the truth for this time, but in rooting and grounding them in the truth, and establishing them against deceptive er-ror. Papers and books are the Lord’s means of keeping the message for this time con-tinually before the people. In enlighten-ing and confirming souls in the truth, the publications will do a far greater work than can be accomplished by the ministry of the word alone. The silent messengers that are placed in the homes of the people through the efforts of the canvasser, will strength-en the gospel ministry in every way; for the Holy Spirit will impress minds as they read the books, just as He impresses the minds of those who listen to the preaching of the word. The same ministry of angels attends the books that contain the truth as attends the work of the minister.” Manual for Canvassers, 8
The ministry of a preacher can accomplish things which the work of books cannot do, likewise books and printed material accom-plish a work that a preacher cannot do. We need faithful preachers and ministers of the word of God, and we also need (as this article is seeking to demonstrate) the word of God in written form. Printed works are silent mes-
sengers that reach far and wide. As much as we support the training and education of vocal messengers (preachers) today, we should also support the work of creating more silent mes-sengers (published material).
Train the People
“The apprentices in our publishing houses should receive more fatherly care than they have had. They are to be given a thorough training in the different lines of the printing business; and they are also to be given ev-ery opportunity to gain a knowledge of the Bible; for the time is at hand when believers will be scattered into many lands. The work-ers in our publishing houses are to be taught what it means to be sincere followers of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In the past, many souls have been left unguarded. They have not been taught what is comprehended in the science of godliness. Not all of those who have borne responsibilities have lived the Christian life.” FE, 492
We need to train people to help carry the bur-den of this end-time work. Persecution is soon to come upon us, and by various lines we can see that persecution provides an impetus for the spreading of God’s message (one example being the history of the Christians during the Reformation). And, based upon two witness, we will also see how quickly this message will be carried to the world once perfection and or-ganization are achieved.
The Two Maps
Sister White was given a vision in which she saw two maps. Let us read the vision:
The Day of the Lord Is Near, and Hasteth Greatly [Reading for Friday, December 16]
An Impressive Scene
“Not long ago a very impressive scene passed before me. I saw an immense ball of fire fall-
27
EDITION 01
ing among some beautiful mansions, causing their instant destruction. I heard some one say, ‘We knew that the judgments of God were coming upon the earth, but we did not know that they would come so soon.’ Others said, ‘You knew? Why then did you not tell us. We did not know.’ On every side I heard such words spoken.
“In great distress I awoke. I went to sleep again, and seemed to be in a large gathering. One of authority was addressing the compa-ny, before whom was spread out a map of the world. He said that this map pictured God’s vineyard, which must be cultivated. As light from heaven shone upon any one, that one was to reflect the light to others. Lights were to be kindled in many places, and from these lights still other lights were to be kindled. The words were repeated,
“‘Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is henceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill can not be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bush-el, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.’
“I saw jets of light shining from cities and vil-lages, and from the high places and the low places of the earth. God’s Word was obeyed, and, as a result, there were memorials for him in every city and village. His truth was proclaimed throughout the world.
“Then this map was removed, and anoth-er put in its place. On it, light was shining forth from a few places only. The rest of the world was in darkness, with only a glimmer of light here and there. Our Instructor said, ‘This darkness is the result of men’s follow-ing their own course. They have cherished
hereditary and cultivated tendencies to evil. They have made questioning and faultfind-ing and accusing the chief business of their lives. Their hearts are not right with God. They have hidden their light under a bushel.’
“If every soldier of Christ had done his duty, if every watchman on the walls of Zion had given the trumpet a certain sound, the world might, ere this, have heard the message of warning. But the work is years behind. While men have slept, Satan has stolen a march upon us.” RH, November 24, 1904
These two maps represent the work of Gods people. At the beginning of the Advent mes-sage, the first angel’s message was carried to every mission station in the world. But as the Laodicean condition metastasized through-out the body of God’s church, the work He in-tended to go forth had slowed and the light of truth was reduced to only a few places (like the second map in the vision). Since 1989 the Lord has been raising up a people who will once again uphold the banner of truth and share the light bestowed from Heaven with others. God’s design is to lighten the earth once again (and even more this time) with His glory. It is left to us to choose which map the work of this movement represents today. We need more consecrated workers who are willing to labor and take up our divine commission assiduous-ly to bring the final message warning, by pen and voice, to every corner of the globe.
Rather Spread Than Cluster
In connection with Sister White’s vision above, an interesting concept to pair with this is the following passage in which she will counsel God’s people to avoid the natural tendency of clustering around our institutions:
“Those who are tempted to gather about our institutions should understand that it is skilled workers that are needed, and that heavy burdens fall upon all who are properly related to the work. Those who are connect-
28
EDITION 01
ed with our institutions must be producers as well as consumers. To those who desire to change their location, and settle near one of our institutions, I would say: Do you think that in settling near an institution you will be able to get a living without perplexity or hard work? Have you counseled with the Lord in regard to this matter? Have you evidence that your desire for a change of location is free from selfish motives, and would be for the honor of God?
“From letters received by those connected with our institutions, and by movements al-ready made, we see that many desire to ob-tain homes near these institutions.
My mind is weighed down with perplexity re-garding this, because I have received instruc-tion from the Lord in regard to the influence that would be exerted upon individuals and upon our work for our people selfishly to gather around our institutions.
“For years, in warnings often repeated, I have testified to our people that God was not pleased to see families leaving the small-er churches, and gathering into the places where our publishing houses, sanitariums, and schools are established, for their own convenience, ease, or worldly profit.
“In Australia, we went into the forest and secured a large tract of land for our school. Plans were laid to sell to our brethren build-ing lots near the school homes and near the meetinghouse. But I was instructed to pro-test against permitting families to settle near our school homes. The counsel given was that it would be much better for families not to live near the school, and not to live too close to one another.
“Those who feel like settling close to our publishing house or our sanitarium and school at Takoma Park, should take counsel before they move.” FE, 494
Our institutions need workers. Speaking prac-tically, workers should live close (up to thirty minutes away) to their workplace. However, this aside, we are aware of the tendency that exists to cluster around the various institu-tions within present truth. In the passage above, Sister White advises against this. Why is it not advisable for people to cluster around our institutions? – for the very reason we read earlier in Sister White’s vision of the two maps. That the work would only reach a few plac-es, thereby limiting the illumination of truth throughout the land.
There are other passages in which Sister White counsels to have small churches. Why? – be-cause when we have small groups or church-es, the members are required to stay “busy,” spiritually speaking. Larger churches foster the disposition to fall asleep. We must to stay busy and stand upon our watch, that we might prove faithful sentinels of our Lord rather than Laodiceans. In science, as an illustration, we would want to be like those molecules that are in constant motion, possessing a warm/hot condition. This is the principle Sister White portrayed through the first map she saw. For light to shine everywhere, we need to move around (like those molecules) to other areas to stay warm (Ephesus), that we may share the message with those who may not be in an in-stitution locality. If we settle down, form clus-ters, and let others take care of “feeding” us (as is often the case at institutions), we are at high risk of falling asleep into the Laodicean condition, as it is comfortably lukewarm.
Witnesses for Truth
“‘Ye are My witnesses, saith the Lord,’ ‘to pro-claim liberty to the captives, and the open-ing of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God.’
“Our publishing work was established by the direction of God and under His special super-
29
EDITION 01
vision. It was designed to accomplish a spe-cific purpose. Seventh-day Adventists have been chosen by God as a peculiar people, separate from the world. By the great cleav-er of truth He has cut them out from the quarry of the world and brought them into connection with Himself. He has made them His representatives and has called them to be ambassadors for Him in the last work of salvation. The greatest wealth of truth ever entrusted to mortals, the most solemn and fearful warnings ever sent by God to man, have been committed to them to be given to the world; and in the accomplishment of this work our publishing houses are among the most effective agencies.
“These institutions are to stand as witness-es for God, teachers of righteousness to the people. From them truth is to go forth as a lamp that burneth. Like a great light in a lighthouse on a dangerous coast, they are constantly to send forth beams of light into the darkness of the world, to warn men of the dangers that threaten them with de-struction.
“The publications sent forth from our print-ing houses are to prepare a people to meet God. Throughout the world they are to do the same work that was done by John the Baptist for the Jewish nation. By startling messag-es of warning, God’s prophet awakened men from worldly dreaming. Through him God called backsliding Israel to repentance. By his presentation of truth he exposed popular de-lusions. In contrast with the false theories of his time, truth in his teaching stood forth as an eternal certainty. ‘Repent ye: for the king-dom of heaven is at hand,’ was John’s mes-sage. Matthew 3:2. This same message, through the publications from our printing houses, is to be given to the world today.
“The prophecy that John’s mission fulfilled outlines our work: ‘Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.’ Verse 3. As
John prepared the way for the first, so we are to prepare the way for the second, advent of the Saviour. Our publishing institutions are to exalt the claims of God’s downtrodden law. Standing before the world as reformers, they are to show that the law of God is the foundation of all enduring reform. In clear, distinct lines they are to present the neces-sity of obedience to all His commandments. Constrained by the love of Christ, they are to co-operate with Him in building up the old waste places, raising up the foundations of many generations. They are to stand as repairers of the breach, restorers of paths to dwell in. Through their testimony the Sab-bath of the fourth commandment is to stand as a witness, a constant reminder of God, to attract notice and arouse investigation that shall direct the minds of men to their Creator.
“Let it never be forgotten that these institu-tions are to co-operate with the ministry of the delegates of heaven. They are among the agencies represented by the angel flying ‘in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come.’ Revelation 14:6, 7.
“From them is to go forth the terrible denun-ciation: ‘Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.’ Verse 8.
“They are represented by the third angel that followed, ‘saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God.’ Verses 9, 10.
“And in a large degree through our publish-ing houses is to be accomplished the work of that other angel who comes down from
30
EDITION 01
heaven with great power and who lightens the earth with his glory.
“Solemn is the responsibility that rests upon our houses of publication. Those who con-duct these institutions, those who edit the periodicals and prepare the books, standing as they do in the light of God’s purpose, and called to give warning to the world, are held by God accountable for the souls of their fel-low men. To them, as well as to the ministers of the word, applies the message given by God to His prophet of old: ‘Son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Isra-el; therefore thou shalt hear the word at My mouth, and warn them from Me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.’ Ezekiel 33:7, 8
“Never did this message apply with greater force than it applies today. More and more the world is setting at nought the claims of God. Men have become bold in transgres-sion. The wickedness of the inhabitants of the world has almost filled up the measure of their iniquity. This earth has almost reached the place where God will permit the destroy-er to work his will upon it. The substitution of the laws of men for the law of God, the ex-altation, by merely human authority, of Sun-day in place of the Bible Sabbath, is the last act in the drama. When this substitution be-comes universal, God will reveal Himself. He will arise in His majesty to shake terribly the earth. He will come out of His place to pun-ish the inhabitants of the world for their in-iquity, and the earth shall disclose her blood and shall no more cover her slain.
“The great conflict that Satan created in the heavenly courts is soon, very soon, to be forever decided. Soon all the inhabitants
of the earth will have taken sides, either for or against the government of heaven. Now, as never before, Satan is exercising his de-ceiving power to mislead and to destroy ev-ery unguarded soul. We are called upon to arouse the people to prepare for the great issues before them. We must give warning to those who are standing on the very brink of ruin. God’s people are to put forth every power in combating Satan’s falsehoods and pulling down his strongholds.
To every human being in the wide world who will give heed, we are to make plain the principles at stake in the great controversy – principles upon which hangs the eternal des-tiny of the soul. To the people far and near we are to bring home the question: ‘Are you following the great apostate in disobedience to God’s law, or are you following the Son of God, who declared, “I have kept My Father’s commandments”?’
“This is the work before us; for this our pub-lishing institutions were established; it is this work that God expects at their hands.” 7T, 138-142
It is our prayer that this article shed light upon the need for and importance of the publishing work in our present day. This department of the Lord’s work needs your prayers and sup-port. If you feel moved to employ your tal-ents in this area for the Lord (no matter what language you speak), or even help financially, please contact the ministries Future Is Now.
Johannes Gutenberg began this work 582 years ago. His acquired skillset: a goldsmith. It is by his efforts that people around our world were given the true gold. This same work needs to be continued today with greater intensity. The Laodicean church is depending upon us, for they are in dire need of the pure gold that we possess.

Lest we ForgetAlonzo Trévier JonesEditor, Author, Preacher
Alonzo T. Jones served for five years in the United States Army. He spent much of his free time studying religious books and his Bible. He obtained Seventh-day Adventist publications and came out from the Fort to attend evange-listic meetings held by Elder Isaac Van Horn, who had recently begun working in Oregon.
On August 8, 1874, in Walla Walla, Washing-ton, the largest town in the Territory, he sur-rendered to his Lord inbaptism.
Mrs. Adelia Van Horn reported to the Review and Herald (August 25,1874, p. 78) that six souls had been baptized by Elder Van Horn. She de-scribed each baptismal candidate but without giving their names. She referred to Jones when she said, “The next one that came forward was a young man, a soldier from the garrison.”
She described this soldier’s conversion: “For weeks he has been earnestly seeking the
Lord, and a few days hence received bright evidence of sins forgiven. After being buried with Christ he arose exclaiming with upraised hands, ‘Dead to the world, and alive to thee, O my God! He completed his enlistment term and fourteen months after his baptism, on November 2, 1875, he was discharged from the Army with the rank of sergeant.
Jones dedicated his life to winning others to the precious truths he had found. This new convert was nearly six feet tall, angular, with a fair complexion, hazel eyes and light brown hair. Although he was naturally abrupt, and some described him as having uncouth pos-turing and gestures, singularity of speech and manner, within a few years, God was using him in the gospel work in the Oregon-Wash-ington Territory. He helped Elder Van Horn raise up churches and served as tentmaster during evangelistic meetings.

Jones met Elder Van Horn’s sister-in-law, Miss Frances E. Patton and formed a special friend-ship. On April 15, 1877 he and Frances were married.
In October 1877 the North Pacific Conference was formed. Elder Van Horn was president; his wife was secretary; A. T. Jones was treasurer. In Oregon the following year, Jones was ordained to the ministry along with two other minis-ters, Elders I. D. Van Horn and W. L. Raymond.
Two years later, in 1880, he became the first secretary of the newly-formed Upper Colum-bia Conference. Since there were only two pastors in the Conference, he himself and G.W. Colcord, the president, Jones was the only pos-sible choice for the position. Around 1880 he also helped establish a church at Damascus, Oregon, just east of Portland.
In 1883, while living in Farmington, Washing-ton, a very small town on the eastern border of the state, he and Frances had their first child, Laneta. Sad for this family, Laneta was retard-ed, and her care often caused difficulties and tension in their marriage.
J. H. Waggoner, Ellet’s father, was impressed with Jones’ ability with words and invited him to work at the Pacific Press Publishing Asso-ciation in Oakland, California. In 1885 he be-came assistant editor of Signs of the Times and began teaching Bible at Healdsburg College. In
one of his favorite classes, he reviewed the ten horns of the fourth prophetic beast in Daniel.7. Soon he was convinced that one of the ten horns of the prophecy was the Huns rather than the Alemanni as traditionally taught by Uriah Smith. At the Pacfic Press he met and worked with E. J. Waggoner. These two West-coast men became coeditors of the Signs in 1886 when Elder J. H. Waggoner went to Eu-rope to help out in the work in Switzerland.
Soon articles appeared in the Signs teaching Jones’ theories regarding the ten horns of the prophecy in Daniel 7 that directly disagreed with Uriah Smith’s view. This caused objec-tions to arise from the Review and Herald and General Conference leadership.A vote was taken during the 1887 General Con-ference that no Seventh-day Adventist press should print controversial points of doctrine.
In 1887 Jones and his wife had a second daugh-ter, Desi. This same year he and Waggoner began editing the American Sentinel and be-came active in the movement to oppose Sun-day laws. For a time, Jones was pastor of the Healdsburg SDA Church.
At the General Conference of 1888, pre-con-ference session, Jones spoke his views regard-ing the 10 kingdoms which succeeded the Ro-man Empire. He supported his colleague E. J. Waggoner in his presentation on Righteous-

ness by Faith. When it was moved that the discussion regarding Righteousness by Faith be postponed for another time, Jones and Waggoner read a series of verses that greatly impressed the hearers and avoided postpone-ment (see box).
In 1889 Jones traveled with Ellen White, speak-ing at camp meetings and ministerial insti-tutes, He was the first Seventh-day Adventist who, with J. O. Corliss, spoke before legislators in Washington, D.C., for the cause of separa-tion of church and state. In 1890 Jones gave in-structions on Righteousness by Faith at a spe-cial ministerial institute held at Battle Creek. Mrs. White cautioned him in 1893 that he was in danger of expressing extreme views on the relationship between faith and works.
In April of 1894, Jones made the grave error of announcing at the Battle Creek Tabernacle his full support of Anna Rice Phillips who claimed to have the gift of prophecy. Mrs. White re-proved him for supporting her, and he was quick to acknowledge his error (RH, July, 4, 1949, p.
10, W. M. Adams). Regardless of this error in judge-ment, Jones co-edited the American Sentinel with C.P. Bollman from 1894 to 1896 and edit-ed the journal during 1896 and 1897.
In 1897 Jones was elected as a member of theGeneral Conference Committee. He was also appointed as editor of the Review and Herald, so that “instead of speaking to comparative-ly few of our people in annual gatherings, he will address all of them every week” (RH, Octo-
ber 5, 1897, p. 640). This appointment ended in 1901 when he was released from that position, so he could “be free to engage in evangelistic work in the field” (RH, May 14, 1901).
Jones supported the organizational changes Ellen White advocated in 1901, including the adoption of a 25-memberexecutive committee to oversee the church in lieu of a president. A. G. Daniells was chosen to chair the 25-mem-ber committee, but always considered himself to be the church’s president. Some people are amused to note that, while Jones supported the move to eliminate “kingship”, he accepted the presidency of the California Conference, ‘and continued through 1904. He was also a member and president of the SDA Educational Society that “stimulated the move of the orig-inal college out of Battle Creek on the basis of Mrs. White’s testimony.” (Knight, p. 211)
Alonzo T. JonesIn October 1906. Ellen White declared that Jones had apostatized, She issued a warning to leaders and members not to be influenced by him.
In 1902 Jones refused to accept leadership of the General Conference Committee.
E.G. White wrote a letter April 16, 1903 to Dr. Kellogg and asked A.T. Jones to take it to the medical meetings in Battle reek. She asked Jones to pray with Kellogg, and when the mo-ment was right, to give him the letter and help him see his danger. He followed her instruc-tions; and apparently great reconciliation was made between Dr. Kellogg and the leaders there. Later, Ellen White was shown that, in fact, Kellogg had not changed.
During the summer of 1903, Jones returned to Battle Creek at Kellogg’s invitation to teach Bible at the American Medical Missionary Col-lege. Ellen White strongly counseled against this move. He did not believe her warning that such a move would lead to his down-

fall. In August, he accepted the presidency of Kellogg’s college.
In 1903 Jones wrote a tract entitled, „One-man Power“ denouncing the decision made during that General Conference to reinstate the office of president. He viewed this as re-establishment of a „czardom.“ In an attempt to recover Jones, Ellen White, in 1905, coun-seled him to join the religious freedom efforts in Washington, D.C. He went and successful-ly helped stop a move to teach religion in the public schools. By mid-April he had returned to Battle Creek on the pretext that his wife need-ed help caring for their elder daughter. Ellen White had a vision of his case showing that he really did not believe the testimonies.
At the 1905 General Conference, Jones’ cre-dentials were renewed. He was elected as a member of a group that presented a copy of the conference’s stand on civil government and religious liberty to President Roosevelt in a White House ceremony.
March 1906, Jones gave a public talk on his dif-ferences with the church. That same month, Ellen White wrote to the Farnsworths that Jones was demonstrating bitterness in very strange speeches. By June, she wrote to the Amazons that Jones’ bitterness was a gall, and that he was doing the very work he was warned to avoid doing. In October, she declared that Jones had apostatized. She issued a warning to leaders and members not to be influenced by him. A committee was established to examine whether or not to renew his credentials.
On May 22, 1907, the General Conference Committee voted unanimously to ask him to turn in his credentials. (RH, June 27, pp- 5-6)
The following year Jones was disfellow-shipped from the Berkeley, California Sev-enteenths-day Adventist church at the rec-ommendation of S.N. Haskell. (Knight, p. 243,
244) Some writers say his wife was disfellow-shipped at his time, and this may be true. Yet
records reveal she was a member of the SDA Church when she died in 1946.
In 1909, at Jones’ request, the General Confer-ence Committee granted a review of his case at a public hearing. At this meeting, A.G. Dan-iells pled with him to put aside his grievanc-es and take his place again as a worker in the cause, and though he seemed close to doing just that, in the end, he refused.
In 1912 Jones joined a Kalamazoo, Michigan Seventeenths-day Adventist reform move-ment. This church gave him ministerial cre-dentials, but in 1914 disfellowshiped him from their movement. Undaunted, he moved in 1915 to Washington, D.C., where he joined the African American People’s Church. But first, he influenced them to separate from the SDA Church. Soon he started a private journal, the American Sentinel of Religious Liberty, which he used until 1923 to oppose religious legisla-tion, church federation and organization, and to sling mud at the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In 1921 Jones retired to Battle Creek, but continued publishing the Sentinel.
In 1923, Jones became ill and was admitted to the Washington Sanitarium and Hospital. He had nearly recovered from his illness, when he suffered a stroke that took his life, on Sabbath, May 12. He was buried in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Thus ended the life of this messenger whom God had powerful used to emphasize the doc-trine of Righteousness by Faith. Opposition to this message and the resulting bitterness this caused him, combined with his loss of faith in the Testimonies, and the extreme view he urged of what constituted individual and cor-porate freedom, had completely succeeded in separating this talented preacher from the Seventeenths-day Adventist Church.

Mission Report International Camp Meeting Sola Gratia 2019
This year’s international camp meeting took place in a holiday resort in Leinatal, Germany, close to the Wartburg. Both classes and meals were held in a large building which was sur-rounded by cottages housing the participants. More than 220 participants from 20 countries speaking 10 different languages joined us for this seminar. Classes were held in English with translation into German. From translation booths installed before the start of the camp meeting, the presentations were being trans-lated into French, Danish, Slovakian, Portu-
guese, Spanish, Dutch, Rumanian and Lithua-nian. Those brethren who did not speak either English or German were given headphones through which they could listen to the presen-tations in their own language.
Each morning before breakfast, Brother Thabo gave a presentation. He talked about Daniel 11, 40-45 in the light of our method. After break-fast, Parminder would give two presentations
about the 1. - 3. angel, „Thus sayeth the Lord“, „How do you read?“ and about „the manner of His 2nd Coming“.
Evening presentations were given by Tess about the third Diadochean war, WW I, church and state, egality and the Sunday law. All top-ics were very interesting and the videos are available on our youtube channel fin1844.
The talks were preceded by a hymn sung by all of us in either English, German or French. Sev-eral times, groups from the various countries prepared some special music performance. These were very enriching for the camp meet-ing. At the back of the conference room, there was a big book table set up by fin and offering study booklets, pamphlets, books as well as snacks and natural products. A few new books and charts were available. Esther Bläsing and her team prepared the meals for the 220 par-ticipants – quite a task! They did a really good job and the food was excellent. The team con-sisted of five people from Germany, Brazil, the US and Switzerland. The whole camp meeting was one world-wide collaboration.
We also had a children’s programme which was run daily by three young women from France. They had planned for this months ahead and

the children were able to enjoy lots of beau-tiful and instructive experiences and made many new friends.
On the Wednesday, we went in several coach-es to visit the Wartburg where we had guided tours in different groups and languages. After-wards, we went on to Eisenach to see the ‘Lu-ther House’. On arrival, we took lunch which had been prepared the previous day by our kitchen team and a few helpers. We very much enjoyed the communion. After an interesting and eventful day, we returned to our venue.
On the last evening, we had a wonderful camp fire with singing and a beautiful community spirit.
Sola Gratia was a turning point in our history. The messages ware simple but of great effect and we experienced a strong sense of commu-nity. This was the last seminar of our move-ment before November 9th which we were all aware of. But we hope that it has not been the last and that we will be able to meet again this coming year.

„In enlightening and confirming souls in the truth the publications will do a far greater work than can be
accomplished by the ministry of the word alone. The silent messengers that are placed in the homes of the
people through the work of the canvasser will strengthen the gospel ministry in every way; for the Holy
Spirit will impress minds as they read the books, just as He impresses the minds of those who listen to the
preaching of the word. The same ministry of angels attends the books that contain the truth as attends the
work of the minister. Papers and books are the Lord’s means of keeping the message for this time continu-
ally before the people.“ Ellen G. White, 6T, 315.4

PANIUMJERUSALEM
Seleucid Expansion
MC - Panium - Caesarea PhilippiPanium was later called Caesarea Phillipi. In Panium are two temples. One for the God of Pan which is Hades the God of the underworld (religion). His temple was considered the entrance to hell. And the second one for the Roman emperor (state). Therefore we see the combination of church and state. In Matthew 16:18 Christ is in Caesarea Phillipi and says that the Gates of Hell (Pan) will not prevail. Phi (the root of Phillipi) is the mathematical ratio of 1.618 which governs the universe. It is also called the golden ratio. Sister White talks about Matthew 16 in The Desire of Ages, chapter 45. The title of the chapter is “The foreshadow of the cross”. This chapter shows what will occur before the Sunday law. If you multiply the alphabet numbers of the letters of Peters name you get 144k. This shows that Christ is building his church upon the 144k and that the gates of hell (Panium) will not prevail against them.

# Battles Information301 BC, Ipsus Seleucus I becomes king of the east.
1 281 BC, Corupedium
Seleucus I conquered his third obstacle and becomes king of the north.
274-271 BC, First Syrian War
Ptolemy II faces Antiochus I. The First Syrian War was a major victory for the Ptolemies.
2 260-253 BC, Second Syrian War
The Second Syrian War ends with a peace treaty between the KS&KN. Antiochus II (KN) repudiated his previous Wife Laodice and marries Berenice the daughter of the Ptolemy II (KS).
3 246-241 BC, Third Syrian War
246BC Ptolemy II and Antiochus II die. Ptolemy III (KN) de-clared war on Laodice’s newly crowned son, Seleucus II (KS), in 246 BC, as revenge for his dead sister Berenice which was poisoned by Laodice. Ptolemy enters into the fortress of Seleucus and takes all the treasures which were given to his sister as a marriage portion back to Egypt. Seleucus dies as a captive falling off his horse.
4 219-217 BC,Fourth Syrian War
Antiochus III (KN) wanted to restor imperial possessions of Seleucus I. 219BC he starts the Fourth Syrian war. He con-quers much of the territory of Ptolemy IV (KS) yet though he does not invade Egypt. Therefore he (KN) only came up to the fortress of the King of the South.
5 217 BC, Raphia The battle of Raphia ended the Fourth Syrian war with the surprising victory of the KS, which was considered the under dog.
# Battles Information202-195 BC,Fifth Syrian War
The death of Ptolemy IV (KS) in 204 BC was followed by a bloody conflict over the regency as his heir, Ptolemy V (KS), was just a child. Seeking to take advantage of this turmoil, Antiochus III (KN) made an agreement with Philip V of Macedon to conquer and share the Ptolemies’ non-Egyp-tian territories.
6 200 BC, Panium The Battle of Panium is part of the Fourth Syrian War and was fought in 200 BC between Antiochus III (KN) and Pto-lemy V (KS). The Seleucids (KN) won the battle. The battle was fought near Paneas (Caesarea Philippi), and marked the end of Ptolemaic rule in Judea.
170-168 BC,Sixth Syrian War
The causes of this conflict are obscure. The war ended with Antiochus meeting the ambassador of the senate in Rome on the outskirts of Alexandria. The ambassador offered the ultimatum to evacuate Egypt and Cyprus immediately. An-tiochus begged to have time to consider but Popilius drew a circle round him in the sand with his cane and told him to decide before he stepped outside it. Antiochus chose to obey the Roman ultimatum. The “Day of Eleusis” ended the Sixth Syrian War.
7 63 BC,Jerusalem conquered
The Siege of Jerusalem (63 BC) occurred during Pompey the Great’s campaigns in the east, shortly after his successful conclusion of the Third Mithridatic War. Pompey had been asked to intervene in an internecine war between Hyr-canus II and Aristobulus II for the throne of the Hasmonean Kingdom. His conquest of Jerusalem, however, spelled the end of Jewish independence and the incorporation of Ju-dea becomes Roman Republic’s client kingdom.
External Internal
The root of Panium is Pan. In a lot of words we find the root of Pan. For example: Pan (Goat God); Pandemonium (chaos); Pandemic (mass sickness); Panic (sudden uncontrollable fear); Pandora (all Gifts); Panorama (senic view); Pantheon (temple dedicated to all Gods); Panacea (universal remedy); Peter Pan (counterfeit Peter).

Fullfilled Antitype The reality of the type. The fulfillment of that which is symbolized by the type.31 AD Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, was sacrificed on Passover of 31 AD. “Christ our passover is sacrificed for us.” As to the type, in the evening, our Lord died, “at
the ninth hour of the day”. John 1:29; 19:14-18; Mark 15:33-37; Luke 22:7-20; 1 Cor 5:7; 1 Pet 1:18-21; PP 539.5; DA 756,757
31 AD Christ “did no sin”, no leaven was in him. Thus unleavened bread was symbolic of this truth, and by “eating” Christ we become one with him. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in him”. 1 Pet 2:21-23; 1 Cor 5:7,8; John 6:51-69; 2 Cor 5:21.
31 AD Jesus rose from the tomb on the first day of the week, fulfilling the “first fruits of them that slept”. And after he arose, many saints were raised to present to the Father the firstfruits of his redemptive sacrifice. Matt 27:50-53; 1 Cor 15:20-23; MS 115 October 14, 1897. 29-31
31 AD The outpouring on Pentecost was the earthly event corresponding to the heavenly inauguration of Jesus Christ as our high priest. The early church having been leavened by the truth were prepared to give pure doctrine to the world. (Leaven can represent sin or righteousness depending on the context). The new covenant was confirmed at Pentecost announcing, ‘The hour of His judgment is come.’ Luke 24; Acts 1:1-14; Acts 2; 16:6-12; Mark 8:15-21; Luke 12:1-3; 3SP 243,244; AA 35-38
1833-1843
The great second advent movement led by William Miller proclaimed the judgment hour message of Rev 14:7,8, warning the world of the approaching antitypical day of atonement. A certain sound was heard from the messengers, as trumpet notes of warning and entreaty called sinners to repentance. The parable of the ten virgins of Matthew 25 was fulfilled to the very letter, dividing professed Christians into two classes. Rev 14:6-8; 10:1-10; Eze 33:1-9; CIS 204, 205
1844 -present
October 22, 1844 commenced the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary and thus fulfilled the type as our great high priest Jesus Christ changed the focus of his ministry to its final phase in the most holy place. The judgment of the living commenced on September 11, 2001. All who would have their sins is blotted out must cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. Dan 8:14; Rev 14:9-12; Acts 3:18-21; 1SM 125; GC 352,435; 16MR 177
Future The children of Israel dwelling in booths with rejoicing reflects in type the “peaceable habitation”, “sure dwellings”, and “quiet resting places” that will be the home of the redeemed through eternity. The new heavens and new earth “wherein dwellers righteousness” will be the culmination and „restitution of all things“, the great jubilee. “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall his people …”. 2 Pet 3:13; Rev 21; PP 542
7 FEASTS Type A sign, a symbol; a figure of something to come.1 • Passover14D1M
At evening each household was to sacrifice a male lamb of the first year, without blemish. To be eaten with bitter herbs and unleavened bread. This was to commemorate the night that God passed through Egypt and slew the firstborn. Ex 12:7-14; Ex 12:21-28; Lev 23:4,5.
2 • Unl. Breads15D 1M - 21D1M
Unleavened bread to be eaten seven days. All leaven was to be removed from the house. They were to present an offering made by fire. A sabbath and holy convocation. Ex 12:17-20; Lev 23:6-8; ST March 25, 1880
3 • Firstfruits16D1M
The first fruits of the harvest were brought to the priest. A sheaf (bundle) of grain was waved before the Lord. An unblemished lamb was sacrificed for a burnt offering, and a meat and drink offering was also offered that day. Lev 23:10-14; PP 539.6
4 • Pentcost6D3M
Pentecost is Greek for “fiftieth”, signifying the day after the seventh Sabbath from Passover, aka “feast of weeks”. Two wave loaves with heaven were offered to the Lord as the first fruits. Seven lambs, one bullock, and two rams were sacrificed for burnt offerings, also one kid of the goats for a sin offering and 2 lambs for a peace offering. A sabbath and holy convocation. Lev 23:15-21; Deut 16:9, 10; PP 540
5 • Trumpets1D7M
Trumpets of warning blown ten days before the day of atonement. A sabbath and holy convocation. One young bullock, one ram and seven lambs sacrificed as burnt offerings. One kid of the goats sacrificed for a sin offering. Meat offerings of flour and oil were offered for each sacrificial animal. Lev 23:24, 25; Num 29:1-6; Psa 81:3.
6 • Day of Atonement10D7M
Regarded by Yews as the day of judgment. Therefore, “afflict your souls” was the duty of that day, lest they be “cut off”. A sabbath and holy convocation. In the type, the numerous duties of the high priest on that das were for the purpose of cleansing the record of sins from the sanctuary and the people. All the iniquities of the people were symbolically transferred to the scapegoat. Lev 23:27-32; 16:1-34; PP 354-5
7 • Tabernacles15D 7M 22D 7M
Seven days the children of Israel were to rejoice in “booths” made of branches of “goodly trees”. The first and eight day was a sabbath. The eight was to be a solemn assembly. Each day an offering made by fire was to be offered. Also known as “the feast of ingathering”. Lev 23:34-44; Num 29:12-38; DA 447-449

The work is soon to close. The members of the church militant who have proved faithful will become the church triumphant. In reviewing our past history, having traveled over every step of advance to our present standing, I can say, Praise God! As I see what God has wrought, I am filled with astonishment and with confidence in Christ as leader. We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and his teaching in our past history. RH October 12, 1905, pg. 22

Time of the End
The True Force of the Will Many are inquiring, “How am I to make the surrender of myself to God?” You desire to give yourself to Him, but you are weak in moral power, in slavery to doubt, and controlled by the habits of your life of sin. Your promises and res-olutions are like ropes of sand. You cannot control your thoughts, your impulses, your affections. The knowledge of your broken promises and forfeited pledges weakens your confidence in your own sincerity, and causes you to feel that God cannot accept you; but you need not despair. What you need to understand is the true force of the will. This is the governing power in the nature of man, the power of decision, or of choice. Everything depends on the right action of the will. The power of choice God has given to men; it is theirs to exercise. You cannot change your heart, you cannot of yourself give to God its affections; but you can choose to serve Him. You can give Him your will; He will then work in you to will and to do according to His good pleasure. Thus your whole nature will be brought under the control of the Spirit of Christ; your affections will be centered upon Him, your thoughts will be in harmony with Him. SC 47.1
Desires for goodness and holiness are right as far as they go; but if you stop here, they will avail noth-ing. Many will be lost while hoping and desiring to be Christians. They do not come to the point of yielding the will to God. They do not now choose to be Christians. SC 47.2
Through the right exercise of the will, an entire change may be made in your life. By yielding up your will to Christ, you ally yourself with the power that is above all principalities and powers. You will have strength from above to hold you steadfast, and thus through constant surrender to God you will be en-abled to live the new life, even the life of faith. SC 48.1
Through conflict the spiritual life is strengthened. Trials well borne will develop steadfastness of character and precious spiritual graces. The perfect fruit of faith, meekness, and love often matures best amid storm clouds and darkness. COL 61.1
The first step toward heaven is convic-tion of sin, the second is repentance and obedience. True piety never exalts self. RH Sep 17, 1895.4

What ist a Fractal?DefinitionA fractal is a natural phenomenon or a mathematical set that exhibits a repeating pattern that displays at every scale. If the replication is exactly the same at everly scale, it is called a self-similar pattern. Fractals can also be nearly the same at different levels. wikipedia http://wikipedia.org/wik/Fractal
The work of God in the earth presents, from age to age, a striking similary in every great reformation or religious movement. The principles of God’s dealing with men are ever the same. The important movements of the present have their parallel in those of the past, and the experience of the church in former ages has lessons of great value for our own time. GC 343

A refining, purifying process is going on among the people of God, and the Lord of hosts has set his hand to this work [Ezekiel 1:8; 10:8]. This process is most trying to the soul, but it is neces-sary in order that defilement may be removed. Trials are essential in order that we may be brought close to our heavenly Father, in submission to his will, that we may offer unto the Lord an of-fering in righteousness. God’s work of refining and purifying the soul must go on until his servants are so humbled, so dead to self, that when called into active service, they may have an eye sin-gle to the cause because they are slaves to temptation and pas-sion, because they follow their carnal desires; but they will move fro, principle and in view of the glory of God. The Lord brings his children over the same ground again and again, increasing the pressure until perfect humility fills the mind, and the character is transformed; then they are victorious over self, and in harmony with Christ and the Spirit of heaven.
