Inspiring Today, Preparing For Tomorrow

Hello Parents,

What an exciting couple weeks we’ve had. Trebein was recognized for its commitment to our military families with a presentation by the Ohio Department of Education for the Purple Star Award. The assembly was very special and the kids did an outstanding job representing our school.

It was also an honor to be recognized by the Ohio Department of Education for the Momentum Award. This award symbolizes the State Board’s commendation for the strong academic support Trebein staff and our community have provided to students from every background and ability level. Both of these awards could not be possible without the combined efforts of every one of us working together.

Since this is the time of year when we tend reflect on our blessings, I want to tell you that I treasure working here at Trebeinwith you and your children.

So filled with pride…

“Welcome” to one of our newest

teachers, Mrs. Green. She is a 4th

grade teacher at Trebein. She is

from Bel Air, Maryland and

graduated from Liberty

University.

Mrs. Green moved to

Beavercreek because of her Air

Force EOD Technician husband

who is stationed here.

When she’s not in the classroom,

she enjoys taking care of her

family’s nine month old puppy.

BUILDING KIDS OF CHARACTERThis month’s Character Education Day is on Wednesday, December 6. Our pillar is Caring. Please remember to wear your color coordinated shirt for the day. And, during the month of December, remember to:

• Be kind • Be compassionate and show you care

• Express gratitude• Forgive others

• Help people in need

During the month of November, students at Trebein discussed the character trait of

Citizenship. The discussion included how we can be good citizens in our role of students by

showing up to school with a good attitude, being willing to try difficult things, and being

motivated to do our very best at all times. Students also took time to think about what type

of citizen they would like to be when they grow up by exploring careers that they are

interested in. Children get messages everyday about what they should do in their future.

Your support helps your child make sense of all the information out there and to make

choices that best fit his or her goals and personality. It is never too soon to start thinking

about the future!

You can support your child in the career exploration process by:

• Encouraging your child to explore careers that are of interest to them. • Exploring potential occupations on the Internet together (See websites below)• Sharing any experiences you've had with career planning and listen to what your child

has to say about his or her interests, skills, and values.• Encouraging your child to explore the different types of post-secondary educational

opportunities and discuss the pros and cons of the different options.• Encouraging learning opportunities to further explore an occupation that they are

interested in.• Suggesting a meeting and interview with someone employed in the selected occupation.

Check out these websites to help with the career exploration process:

• Kid’s Work! - This website is a virtual community of workplaces designed to give students an interactive job exploration experience that connects school work to real work. Meet Real People who work in this profession. Explore the Work Zone and learn more about a real workplace. (https://knowitall.org/series/kids-work)

• Paws in Jobland - This website has a virtual community of workplaces called Jobland that is divided into 16 Career Clusters, which provides students with videos of the various jobs available in each cluster. There is also a Job Finder, which asks students what their likes and dislikes are to help them identify a job that would be a good match. (https://www.xap.com/paws/)

• US Department of Labor-Bureau of Labor Statistics – This website has games and quizzes that students can play to become familiar with terms commonly used with career exploration/job searches. They can search jobs based upon categories that interest them and watch videos of individuals who work in that field. They can research work environment, common duties, educational background needed, and average pay. (https://www.bls.gov/k12/students.htm)

Clinic News

As we move into December, I will finish up my annual vision and hearing screening on the students who are in 1st, 3rd and 5th

grades. I will also test any students who are new to the district. This is state mandated. You will only hear from me if I find a deficit in either hearing or vision. This may be in the form of a phone call or a referral letter home. If you have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to call me at 458-2327.

The weather is starting to turn colder and we will continue to have outdoor recess until the wind chill gets below 20 degrees. Please dress your children accordingly. Thank you and everyone have a safe and wonderful holiday season.

On a crisp Saturday morning, the gymnasium at TrebeinElementary School became a kids’ shopping paradise allowing

students to buy gifts for everyone on their list—even pets. They also had a chance to have their pictures taken with Santa Claus.

As a parent, it can sometimes seem like an utter mystery what leads to student success. But while experts sometimes disagree as to what makes a child a lifelong reader, or what makes one shy and another outgoing, there's one area in which the research is absolutely clear: parent involvement. Strong schools take partnership, not just leadership. We want to partner with you!! Please come to our next meeting on Tuesday, December 12th at 7:00pm. in the IMC (library). If you are unable to attend the meeting, remember you can come to our recap meeting on Wednesday, December 13th at 9:00 am at Fairfield Commons Mall play area in the food court.
