Treaty of Paris
The Treaty of Paris was finally signed on September 3, 1783, almost two years after the Battle at Yorktown. Britain's King George III was not ready to give the colonists their independence even though he couldn’t win the war. Three representatives (John Adams, John Jay, and Benjamin Franklin) were sent from the colonies to Britain to work out the terms of the peace treaty. It took them a great deal of time and discussion to convince the king that America would not sign a peace treaty unless it included their freedom from British rule and the acceptance of the American allies.
