PROPOSAL : TREASURES OF SOUTH VIETNAM – 12D11N
DEPARTURE : 01 Jan 2014 – 30 September 2014
NUMBER OF PAX : TBA
PREPARED FOR : TBA
Vietnam is now firmly on the world stage, but only since the
early 1990’s travellers started arriving. Today visitors from all
over the world have the opportunity to discover the beauty of
Vietnam. Brilliant green rice fields, bustling city streets, grand
colonial buildings, colourful markets, temples and pagodas,
deserted sandy beaches, glorious mountain scenery, colourful
ethnic minorities, delicious cuisine, luxurious hotels and resorts,
THIS IS VIETNAM TODAY.
The country is divided into three distinct regions, the south, the
centre and the north. The northern capital Hanoi, is the seat of
government and home of the revered Ho Chi Minh. This is the
artistic and cultural heart of the country, with Hoan Kiem lake
at the centre. In the Old Quarter, at the Temple of Literature, in
the colonial buildings and the museums the past comes to life.
Saigon is the commercial powerhouse of the country, with
international hotels, shiney malls, old markets, museums, China
Town and café life. The city is truly multi-cultural.
There are Seven World Heritage sites in Vietnam declared by
UNESCO in 2011. The spectacular natural wonder of Ha Long Bay (1994), the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park
(2003), the central sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Hanoi (2010), Citadel of the Ho Dynasty (2011),
Complex of Hué Monuments (1993), Hoi An Ancient Town (1999), My Son Sanctuary (1999). Vietnam offers the
ultimate in adventure and luxury travel
VIETNAM DESTINATION
Day 1: HO CHI MINH CITY ARRIVAL (-/-/-)
Welcome to Vietnam! Asia Destinations’ guide and driver will pick you up at the airport and take you into the city
centre by private car. Hotel check in and free time to relax.
In the afternoon, start your half-day city tour to see Saigon’s historic landmarks.
The city, is the dynamic commercial centre of Vietnam. Despite the hustle and bustle, the city retains its
connections to the past. A stroll down Rue Catinat (of Graham Greene's 'The Quiet American') will reveal more
colonial classics; the Opera House, a three-story classical theatre (outside visit); the former Hotel de ville
constructed in 1901, now The People's Committee building with no public access; the Notre Dame Cathedral, a
stunningly massive red-brick edifice with twin spires (open only 3-4pm everyday otherwise just outside visit); the
Central Post Office influenced by Renaissance architecture; and the former Presidential Palace headquarter of the
Saigon government during the past conflicts.Return to your hotel and free time to discover more of the city on your
own.
Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 2: CU CHI TUNNELS (B/-/-)
After breakfast at hotel, your guide will pick you up at the hotel lobby to enjoy a 2-hour-drive north west of Saigon
to Cu Chi tunnels, through urbanized areas and typically lush southern Vietnamese countryside. The tunnel
complex was dug in 1948 for the guerrillas to hide from invaders. It also served as communication routes and for
food and weapon caches as well as hospitals and living quarters for guerrilla fighters throughout the French and
American wars. Visit the underground villages to understand the tunnels’ history, life in the tunnels and the
Vietnamese’s resilience during the conflicts. Return to Ho Chi Minh city with free time for the rest of the day to go
shopping or relax at the hotel on your own.
Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 3: HO CHI MINH CITY - CAI BE (B/L/D)
Today, after breakfast at the hotel, your driver will pick you at the hotel lobby and drive you by private car or coach
to Cai Be in the Mekong Delta; known as the country’s ‘rice-basket’. Embark on a 3-hour drive with ever-changing
views – from the rapidly developing Saigon city to the hectic delta. On arrival, board the cruise at noon with a
welcome drink and an experienced crew to look after you. Check into the cabins and enjoy a delicious lunch on the
upper deck while the boat sails leisurely towards canals on the Mekong River. Rest on the deck, or relax at the bar
as the boat maneuvers through the mass of local boats. See the fruit drying facilities and traditional wooden
shipbuilding yards on both sides. A village visit on the banks of Co Chien or Mang Thit is an opportunity to
appreciate the local way of life of the Delta people and their hospitality. If you would like to explore, stop at an
orchard or a nearby paddy field. Enjoy the sunset with a sundowner before dinner while cruising on Mekong River.
Overnight on board in the delta
Day 4: CAN THO – CHAU DOC (B/L/-)
Enjoy an early breakfast at approximately 06.30am, as the boat departs for Can Tho. Watch the sunrise on the
river. Leisurely cruise up the Bassac river while passing the beautiful scenery. Here you will see the local floating
market, where many boats laden with fruit, vegetables and fish jostle for trade. Sellers advertise their wares by
crying out across the waters, or tie their goods to a tall pole so that buyers can see them from a distance. Upon
arrival at Ninh Kieu wharf, disembark your cruise. Your local guide in Can Tho will pick you up and accompany you
on the journey to Chau Doc. In the late afternoon, you will drive 30 Km from Chau Doc to Tra Su Cajuput forest.
Here you will take a boat trip through Tra Su cajuput forest renowned for its untouched natural beauty and its
sanctuary for flora and fauna. Return to Chau Doc in the evening.
Overnight in Chau Doc
Day 5: CHAU DOC – HO CHI MINH CITY (B/L/-)
After breakfast, we will visit the Chau Doc city attractions
including: Chua Xu Temple, Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb, fishing farm, Cham mosque and Cham village – Cham is one of
the ethnic minorities of Vietnam. Experience the local life in the Mekong Delta before returning to Ho Chi Minh
City (about 7 hour driving). Arrive at Ho Chi Minh City and check in hotel.
Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City
Day 6: HO CHI MINH CITY – NAM CAT TIEN NATIONAL PARK (B/-/-)
After breakfast at the hotel, your driver and your guide will pick you up to depart for a trekking day in Nam Cat
Tien National Park (around 3-hour drive by private car). The 70,000 hectare park is home to various species of giant
trees and wild animals. A leisurely hike in the Ben Cu area of the park is available. Return to your guesthouse in the
park and after dinner take a night ride by jeep deep into the Nui Tuong forest to look for nocturnal animals.
Overnight at Cat Tien guesthouse
Day 7: NAM CAT TIEN NATIONAL PARK – LAK LAKE (B/-/-)
In the early morning, take a jeep ride to Bau Sau, the staging point for the day’s trek (round trip 10km). Trek for
three and a half hours deep into the forest then take a canoe around the lake. If lucky, you may see some unusual
birds and mammals which live in the forest and wetlands. Then hike back to the jeep for the drive back to the
guesthouse. Check out and continue to Dak Lak province (around 6-hour drive) which is a home to several ethnic
minorities such as Ede, Mnong, Jarai. Hotel check in and enjoy a traditional ‘gong’ show and dance performance of

one-hour by car to Buon Ma Thuot which is a large city in a coffee plantation region, and a provincial city of Daklak
province. Upon arrival Buon Ma Thuot City, you will visit some local attractions including Khai Doan pagoda, Lac

architectural villas, especially Dalat Cathedral (also called Chicken Church) - one of the oldest and typical of the
architecture constructions of Dalat. Return to your hotel for check in and free time for your rest in the evening.
Overnight in Da Lat.
Day 10: DALAT (B/-/-)
This cool retreat, in the central highlands was discovered by the French during their time in Vietnam. Dalat was
developed as an escape from the intense heat of the lowlands. Here the French buit villas and planted flowers and
alpine shrubs. The town is set amongst forests and lakes and is now a major tourist venue. It is an ideal location for
hikers and mountain bike enthusiasts.
After breakfast, start your day with a tour of Da Lat City and its surroundings. 6km south west of Dalat is Datanla
Waterfall which is not so imposing or tumultuous as some others in Dalat but it exerts an extraordinary attraction
to adventurers. Continue to Thien Vien Truc Lam pagoda located on Phoenix Mountain and next to Tuyen Lam
lake. Every year, from all over the world, hundreds of Zen followers come here to practice meditation. We will visit
Da Lat’s Flower Garden considered a natural museum that houses a fine collection of native and exotic flowers

residence giving you an insight to how royalty would have lived in the 1930s with its wonderful location
Visit Crazy House, with its unusual architecture with strange shapes with unsual roofs and rooms. This guesthouse
and art gallery was designed by the daughter of a former Vietnamese President. Each room is decorated with a
specific theme, such as Ant Room, Bamboo Room, the Eagle Room, etc.
Drive up the hill to the French-built rail station opened in 1928. The old steam engine is still there, but replicas have
replaced the old cars. Take a back-in-time train ride 7km to Trai Mat, passing vegetable and flower gardens. Hard
seat, open air, loud machine, all part of the experience! Visit Linh Phuoc pagoda built from old pieces of glass,
