HOW TO APPLY LUBRICANTLift one side of treadbelt.

Pour one half of the lubricant bottle under the centre of the treadbelt on the top surface of the treadboard.

Walk on the treadmill at a slow speed for 3 to 5 minutes to evenly distribute lubricant.

NOTE: DO NOT over lubricate treadboard. Any excess lubricant that comes out should be wiped off.

NOTE: ONLY USE HALF THE BOTTLE OF LUBRICANT PER APPLICATION

LUBRICATION SCHEDULE.

1. Check the treadboard lubrication during installation. If it’s necessary, lubricate the treadboard, using the full bottle

of lubricant provided, before using the treadmill for the first time.

2. If the treadmill is used on a regular basis, the running deck should be lubricated once a month.

3. If the treadmill is not used for two months or more, the treadmill must be lubricated before use.

6. MAINTENANCE

HOW TO CHECK TREADBELT FOR PROPER LUBRICATIONLift one side of the treadbelt and feel the top surface of the

treadboard.

If the surface is slick to the touch, then no further lubrication is

required.

If the surface is dry to the touch, apply one packet of lubricant or

half of the bottle of lubricant.

BELT TRACKING ADJUSTMENTIf during use you notice that the running belt either shifts to the right

or the left of centre, first remove “Safety Key” and unplug equipment

from AC power source. Using M6 Allen wrench provided, turn the

left rear roller adjustment clockwise no more the 1/4” of a turn.

Remove the M6 Allen wrench, insert the “Safety Key” and insert the

AC power cord into the AC outlet. Turn on your treadmill and

observe after running for a few minutes to see if the problem has

been corrected. This may take several adjustments, so repeat the

above procedure.

Your treadmill should require little maintenance other than to periodically apply lubricant. Lubricating under the

treadbelt will ensure superior performance and extend the treadmill’s life expectancy.

7. GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONSThis product must be grounded. If a malfunction or breakdown occurs, grounding provides a path of least resistance for

electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This product is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding

conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and

grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.

DANGER - improper connection of the equiment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. Check with

a qualified electrician or serviceman if you are in doubt as to whether the product is properly grounded. Do not modify

the plug provided with the product - if it will not fit the outlet; have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

This product is for use on a nominal 220-240-volt circuit and has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in

the figure. Make sure that the product is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adaptor

USING THE HEART RATE TRANSMITTER

1. Attach the transmitter to the elastic chest strap using the clips provided.2. Adjust the strap to a firm fit around the chest3. Position the transmitter in the centre of your chest, immediately below the pectoral muscles, with the TROJAN logo facing outwards.4. Sweat will act as a very effective conductor to accurately transmit heart beat electrical signals. Plain water can also be used to pre-wet the electrodes (moisten the two black square areas on the reverse side of the belt and either side of transmitter). It is also recommended that you wear the transmitter strap a few minutes before you start your work out. Some users, because of body chemistry, take longer to achieve a strong, steady signal at the beginning of exercise. After “warming up”, this problem lessens. 5. Wearing clothing over the transmitter/strap does not affect performance.6. The transmitter must be within range of the receiver to achieve a strong steady signal. Stay close enough to the console to maintain strong, reliable, readings. 7. Wearing the transmitter immediately against your body will ensure proper operation. It may also be worn over a shirt as long as areas of the shirt around the transmitter are first moistened.

Note: The transmitter is automatically activated when it detects activity from the user’s heart. Additionally, it automatically deactivates when it does not receive any activity. Although the transmitter is water resistant, moisture can have the effect of creating false signals. Ensure you completely dry the transmitter after use to prolong battery life (estimated transmitter battery life is 2500 hours). The replacement battery is Panasonic CR2032.

Erratic Operation:Caution! Do not use this treadmill for Heart Rate Control unless a steady, reliable actual Heart Rate value is being displayed. Erratic, random numbers being displayed indicate a problem due to interference.Potential Sources of Interference:(1) Treadmill improperly earthed(2) Close proximity to Microwave ovens, TV’s and some other small appliances.(3) Some types of Fluorescent lights.(4) Some household security systems.(5) Electronic perimeter pet fences

The antenna that detects your heart rate is very sensitive. If you encounter an interference problem, changing the orientation of the machine by 90 degrees may solve the problem.

If you continue to experience problems, contact your dealer.

10195M-19

Special Operations of Heart Rate Functions:TROJAN treadmills that are factory equipped with a Heart Rate Control system have many distinct features both in the Heart Rate Control program and during heart rate monitoring. This section will give you a more detailed background to use your treadmill in the most effective manner.

HEART RATE CONTROL

How the Heart Rate Control Program Works:Heart Rate Control (HRC) uses your treadmill’s speed and incline systems to adjust your heart rate. Increases and decreases in elevation affect heart rate much more efficiently than changes in speed alone. The HRC program automatically changes the speed and elevation gradually to achieve the programmed target heart rate.

Selecting a Heart Rate Control Program:You have the option, during the setup mode, to choose either the Weight Control (H-1) program or the Cardiovascular (H-2) program. Weight Control attempts to maintain your heart rate at 60% of your Maximum Heart Rate. The Cardiovascular (H-2) progem attempts to maintain your heart rate at 80% of your Maximum Heart Rate.

Your Maximum Heart Rate is based upon a formula that is calculated based on the age you input during the setup mode.

CAUTION!The target value used in H-1 and H-2 programs is a suggestion only for normal, healthy individuals. Do not exceed your limits! You may not be able to obtain your chosen target. In this case, enter a higher age value that will set a lower target goal.

Heart Rate Control programmingBoth programs operate the same way. The only difference is that HRC 1 is set to 60% and HRC 2 is set to 80% of maximum heart rate. Use the Heart Rate Control (either wireless transmitter chest strap or Pulse Grip bar) to sense your heart rate. The console must receive a strong, steady value in the heart rate (PULSE) display to operate effectively.

STEP 1: Press Program Up/ Down button to choose HR1 or HR2, then press ENTER.

STEP 2: The Calories window will now be blinking showing bodyweight. Adjust to your actual bodyweight and press ENTER to accept the value.

STEP 3: The Calories window will now be blinking showing age. Adjust and press ENTER. Adjusting Age will change the Target HR value.

STEP 4: The heart rate level will now be displayed. Adjust if necessary and press ENTER.

STEP 5: The time window will now be displayed. Adjust as required and press ENTER.

STEP 6: Press START to begin the program.

AEROBIC EXERCISE

Aerobic exercise is any sustained activity that sends oxygen to your muscles via your heart and lungs. Aerobic exercise

improves the fi tness of your lungs and heart - your body’s most important muscle. Aerobic exercise fi tness is promoted

by any activity that uses your large muscles (arms, legs, or buttock, for example). Your heart beats quickly and you breathe

deeply. An aerobic exercise should be part of your entire exercise routine.

WEIGHT TRAINING

Along with aerobic exercising which helps get rid of and keep off the excess fat that our bodies can store, weight train-

ing is an essential part of the exercise routine process. Weight training helps tone, build and strengthen muscle. If you

are working above your target zone, you may want to do a lesser amount of reps. And as always consult your physician

before beginning any exercise program.

MUSCLE CHART

TREADMILL

The exercise routine that is performed on the treadmill will develop the lower body muscle group as well as condition

the circulatory system and provide a good aerobic workout . These muscle groups are highlighted on the muscle chart

below.

11 CONDITIONING GUIDELINESHow you begin your exercise program depends on your physical condition. If you have been inactive for several years, or

are severely overweight, you must start slowly and increase your time on the equipment; a few minutes per workout.

Initially, you may be able to exercise only for a few minutes in your target zone, however, your aerobic fitness will improve

over the next six to eight weeks. Don’t be discouraged if it takes longer. It’s important to work at your own pace. Ulti-

mately, you’ll be able to exercise continuously for 30 minutes. The better your aerobic fitness, the harder you will have to

work to stay in your target zone. Please remember these essentials :

EXERCISE INTENSITYTo maximize the benefits of exercising, it is important to exercise with the

proper intensity. The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart

rate as a guide. For effective aerobic exercise, your heart rate should be

maintained at a level between 65% and 85% of your maximum heart rate

as you exercise. This is known as your target zone. You can find your target

zone in the table below.

During the first few months of your exercise program, keep your heart rate near the low end of your target zone as you

exercise. After a few months, your heart rate can be increased gradually until it is near the middle of your target zone as

you exercise.

To measure your heart rate, stop exercising but continue moving your legs or walking around and place two fingers on

your wrist. Take a six-second heartbeat count and multiply the results by 10 to find your heart rate. For example, if your

six-second heartbeat count is 14, your heart rate is 140 beats per minute. (A six-seconds count is used because your

heart rate will drop rapidly when you stop exercising.)

Adjust the intensity of your exercise until your

heart rate is at the proper level.

12. WARM-UP AND COOL-DOWNWORKOUT GUIDELINESEach workout should include the following three parts:A warm-up, consisting of 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise. A proper warm-up increases your body tem-perature, heart rate, and circulation in preparation for exercise.Training zone exercise, consisting of 20 to 30 minutes of exercising with your heart rate in your training zone. (Note: During the first few weeks of your exercise program, do not keep your heart rate in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes.)A cool-down, with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching. This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help to prevent post-exercise problems.

EXERCISE FREQUENCYTo maintain or improve your condition, plan three workouts each week, with at least one day of rest between workouts. After a few months of regular exercise, you may complete up to five workouts each week, if desired. Remember, the key to success is make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life.

SUGGESTED STRETCHESThe correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you

stretch, never bounce.

1. Toe Touch Stretch

Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow

your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as pos-

sible. Hold for 15 counts, then relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings, back of

knees and back.

2. Hamstring Stretch

Sit with one leg extended. Bring the sole of the opposite foot toward you and rest it

against the inner thigh of your extended leg. Reach toward your toes as far as pos-

sible. Hold for 15 counts, then relax. Repeat 3 times for each leg. Stretches: Ham-

strings, lower back and groin.

3. Calf/Achilles Stretch

With one leg in front of the other, reach forward and place your hands against a

wall. Keep your back leg straight and your back foot flat on the floor. Bend your

front leg, lean forward and move your hips toward the wall. Hold for 15 counts, then

relax. Repeat 3 times for each leg. To cause further stretching of the achilles tendons,

bend your back leg as well. Stretches: Calves, achilles tendons and ankles.

4. Quadriceps Stretch

With one hand against a wall for balance, reach back and grasp one foot with your

other hand. Bring your heel as close to your buttocks as possible. Hold for 15 counts,

then relax. Repeat 3 times for each leg. Stretches: Quadriceps and hip muscles.

5. Inner Thigh Stretch

Sit with the soles of your feet together and your knees outward. Pull your feet

toward your groin area as far as possible. Hold for 15 counts, then relax. Repeat 3

times. Stretches: Quadriceps and hip muscles.
