Clarkson College Academic Travel Abroad: Italy Dec. 7–17, 2014

DAY ONE Sunday, Dec. 7 Depart Our journey begins as we board our plane to Rome, Italy. IF DAY TWO Monday, Dec. 8 Rome Upon arrival in Rome, we meet our coach and driver to begin our journey. Our visit to the “Eternal City” has just begun as our local guide, Rita, joins us for a panoramic tour of Rome and a visit to the Roman Colosseum and the historic Forum, once the center of ancient Rome. IF/B DAY THREE Tuesday, Dec. 9 Rome Today we will see the glories of the Caesars and become acquainted with the city that was the birthplace for much of Western civilization. We start at Vatican City, where we visit St. Peter’s, the Vatican Museum, and the Sistine Chapel. This afternoon, our local guide Rita introduces us to Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona--which hosts a ChristmasMart at this time of year. This evening we enjoy dinner and music at the Thalia Restaurant. B/D DAY FOUR Wednesday, Dec. 10 Rome Today is an entirely free day to explore Rome on our own. B DAY FIVE Thursday, Dec. 11 Siena This morning we head north to Tuscany and the lovely medieval town of Siena. We will have lunch, sample Tuscan wines at a trattoria and then have time to explore Siena on our own! B/L DAY SIX Friday, Dec. 12 Siena This morning a locally guided tour of this fabulous Gothic city will acquaint us with its famous sunken Piazza del Campo and the Duomo, perhaps the finest Gothic cathedral in Italy. This afternoon we will visit a local hospital. B DAY SEVEN Saturday, Dec. 13 Florence Our entire day is devoted to Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance and the heart of Italy. Our local guide takes us on a walking tour that includes the Duomo and its famed Brunelleschi dome, Ghiberti’s Baptistry doors, and Giotto's campanile; the Accademia with Michelangelo's incomparable David; and the Uffizi, with the finest collection of paintings in all of Italy. This evening we enjoy dinner and music at Trattoria Pandemonio. B/D DAY EIGHT Sunday, Dec. 14 Florence Today is an entirely free day to explore Florence on our own. B DAY NINE Monday, Dec. 15 Venice Our destination today is La Serenissima, the “Serene One.” Built upon 117 islands, Venice is a mosaic of canals, plazas, fascinating markets, and chaos! Upon arrival we meet out local guide and cruise along the serpentine Canale Grande. We will see the Bell Tower and St. Mark’s Cathedral. B

DAY TEN Tuesday, Dec. 16 Venice Today is an entirely free day to explore Venice on our own. Plan to visit a glass-blowing shop, shop in the market area around the Rialto Bridge, or enjoy a coffee and some people-watching in St. Mark’s Square.
