Once again the time has come to assemble an offering for our 39th Annual Production Sale. You would think after 39 sales we would be cool, calm, and collected, but we are still like a kid waiting for Santa Claus…..We’re filled with excitement and anticipation! Clearly that means we have passion for what we are doing and believe in it whole-heartedly! Here at Trauernicht Simmentals we have more excitement and enthusiasm than we have ever had. With all time highs in the cattle business, we feel more optimism than ever! The Simmental breed is on fire, along with the Sim/Angus genetics. We are honored to be part of this association, and feel equally as honored that you have chosen to put your trust in the Trauernicht Simmentals program! Our tradition of excellence is one that we work hard to maintain and will continue to do so for years to come!We feel very strongly that our bulls are perfect for today’s industry. We strive to have high performing cattle that still maintain adequate calving ease. Another main focus at Trauernicht Simmentals is high fertility and maternal cattle. I know not every one of you keep your own heifers, but if you do feel confident that they will work well.As always, we strive to be very service-oriented and would be more than happy to assist you with marketing your calves and LHT Brand slaughter bulls. We continue to get calls back from several of the first LHT sired heifers - people just can’t believe the quality of cows they are making and they want more! With the high calf prices, it has been a challenge to find enough LHT Brand sired calves to fill the orders I have. Please don’t hesitate to call me if we can help you market your calves, as there is a demand for them.

Darrin Minge continues to work as our LHT Brand Livestock Specialist. Going into his third year at Trauernicht Simmentals, he is truly committed to our

program. We couldn’t do it without him! He has been a huge asset to our operation. He has steadily improved our conception rates through his dedication to heat detection and proper nutrition programs. Additionally, he continues to look for ways to improve efficiency by having the whole cow herd calve much tighter and get more AI calves every year. Feel free to contact Darrin, in addition to Scott and Loren, as he knows the cattle as well as anybody. He is also a great person to talk to if you would like some ideas on trying to improve the reproduction in your herds. When you say proven genetics, one cow family comes to my mind first in the Trauernicht Program... 25Y. For those that are new to our program, and even those of you that have been with us for a while, you may or may not know 25Y. She did more for us than any other female could! She was the grandam of our last breed matriarch, 177G. As you go through our cow herd and follow the pedigrees back, almost half of them would have this great female in them somewhere. With that said, these bulls dam, Cherry, is the latest of the rising stars from this cow family. We have put her into overdrive trying to get more offspring on the ground out of her. I don’t care which of these brothers you choose, take one home and you’ll be happy! Let’s start out with the proven mating of Basic Instinct and Cherry. We have one as our Senior herd sire and love the first set of calves on the ground born last spring. His full brother was at the top of our sale two years ago, going to Mark Wiedel of Hebron. Additionally, their full sib sister topped the female sale last fall going to Russell Moss. 07A is no different, and may be the best one when it comes to overall power and performance. He is a bull that you will love the steers out of, and love the females even more! 09A has been my pick for the top bull since he was a baby. He has never slowed down! Most bulls may grow early or some mature out late and don’t take off until after weaning, but this bull has just kept growing and has never slowed down! I don’t know if he is the prettiest bull we are selling, but when it comes to pure raw POWER, he has it while still having a tremendous look to him. You will definitely want to give him a look on sale day. 169A…the little brother. Here is the sleeper of the sale - being 60 days younger than his older brother, he will definitely get over shadowed, but he has everything that his older brothers do, and if it wasn’t for his quality, we would never put this young of a bull in our bull sale.

If we pulled tags and made someone come sort them, it would be hard. They are like peas in a pod and when you find a bull who sires these kinds of calves, look for his sons to do the same. We are confident that if you are looking for some easy fleshing, high maternal cattle with adequate performance these are the bulls you need to look at. They start out small but boy do they blossom at the end!

Miss Cheyenne’s dam, Miss Kansas K 11G is a very popular and proven cow, which has produced many high selling progeny in her lifetime. 01A turned many heads when shown this summer; he weighed in at 942 lbs at the Iowa State Fair in August. Down Town offers capacity, volume, excellent structure with a good square hip and a very good disposition. He has a proven dam that has produced very good females and top end bulls. 01A just has the herd bull look, make sure you take a look at him on sale day.

She did it again!!!! The 5129 cow proves to be a no miss cow, especially when bred to Chopper!! These bulls will be full sibs in blood to the Chop House Bull that topped our 2012 bull sale. The reports on his first calves have been awesome!! Expect no difference from either of these two bulls. The Baldy has a little more frame and is a bit softer with a very maternal look to him. He is almost a spitting image of his older brother. The solid black one is made a little stouter in a smaller framed package. He is a little more angular in his design with a more extended front. Both bulls are very good - you will need to be the judge come sale day.

He is soft made, stout, and attractive, while still having enough calving ease to be bred to some heifers. All this while still being in the top 4% of the breed for weaning weight and Yearling weight EPDs. He even posted a 849 pound 205 day weight that ratioed him 125 and the top in his contemporary group!! Needless to say, he will surely be a favorite come sale day.

This will be the fourth Net Worth calf out of this bull’s dam, 126R. When the first one was born, we thought it was a fluke that he was so good… but over time, 126R has proven it to be a tradition to lay down and have a great one like this bull. With that kind of tradition, we would expect no less of this bull! We foresee him to sire some super feeder calves, as he himself ranks in the top 11% of the breed for Yearling Weight EPDS.

What a set of brothers! I have to say that their dam is one of the best additions we have ever brought into the program. She hits every time……after you see these three Angus bulls, you will agree. Depending on where you want to go with them, you can certainly find one to work in your program. In my experience, the 06A bull is hard to fault. He has impressed absolutely everyone who has seen him on the farm. He is about as perfect of a structured bull as you can find. He has a very long extended front end that blends into a perfect shoulder. To add to the WOW factor, he boasts a huge sweeping ribcage and a big square made hip on him, all while setting down on a big foot. If we had more Purebred Simmental cows, we would not even think about offering this bull. We would be more than happy to help someone work on promoting this bull in the future. We feel he can do big things. 10A the bigger framed bull with a little more performance may work better for those of you needing a little more frame in your cows and still want to put some look and style in them. 112A, the little brother, is the calving ease version. He has more than enough performance, rib shape, and fleshing ability to run with his older brothers, while still putting small calves on the ground at birth and big feeder calves come fall. It doesn’t matter which one you would choose they will all do you an excellent job!

Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit

difference between bulls. (As described

to the left, index units are in dollars per

cow exposed.) The difference can be used

to determine how much a bull is worth

compared to another. Or, put another

way, how much you can pay for one bull

compared to another. For example, when

buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can

quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is

worth an extra $6,000 over a $50 bull if both

are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50

diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-

ranking chart is required to determine where

a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other

Some breeders are strictly numbers and some are strictly looks. We strive to be a combination of both. We believe too much of a good thing is not a good thing. Our belief is that you have to consider more than one trait and select for functional cattle. That is where we say bred on not fed on! We want easy fleshing, highly fertile, performance cattle that calve easy and still have some look to them! Trust me, that is not easy to breed for, but that is our Program and Tradition!

As always we offer a sight unseen program and will guarantee every purchase is exactly as stated to you or your money back. This program continues to grow every year and we will sell approximately half our bulls this way again this year. We will have complete Performance data, Ultrasound data, and Breeding exam data available for you the week of the sale. On bulls that sell for more than $2000, we will split the feed costs with you. Anything under $2000 will be the responsibility of the new buyer. Once again, we would be happy to take the bulls home and care for them until April 1, but would highly encourage you to take out insurance on them for this amount of time. Back by popular demand! We put together a scale from 1-10 on the traits that we feel are most important to our customers based on our most frequently asked questions. These ratings will take the place of writing individual comments on each and every bull.
