Welcome…..

What a great time to be a beef producer, and what a great time to be a beef cow/calf guy, we have waited many years, have anticipated, have hoped, have toiled and subsidized, and finally in the past 2 years, we can proclaim an actual margin over cow costs. 2012 was certainly a challenging and innovative year, many learned how to feed our beef cows in other ways, not just a few bales of hay a day, but, we searched and sought out new feeds, cheaper feeds, invested in equipment and facilities. Those that adjusted, certainly was an indication about commitment for the future, many though, thru the challenges of feed and the prosperity of the 'cash crop' revolution chose to disperse and look to a different way of life. I remember back to the 2003 PIC BULL SALE, and in my opening comments, I stated that finished rail prices would be $2.50/lb, and David Carson commented that he agreed with me, this was March 30th 2003, then May 20th , 2003, BSE, and what a profound disaster for our Canadian Beef Industry, it has taken 11 years to recover, fewer now, in fact 1/2 the cows now in Ontario as then, but we have become good at what we do. I work and communicate daily with Ontario Beef Producers, it is surely a real JOY, I see, I hear, I communicate, US that are here, at the time where we have never been, seen or heard, but now are, "the better days ahead that we have talked and discussed about". just pop out and then grow. Bullseye has done just that. He is a long sided deep ribbed bull with good hind quarter and great foot structure. His dam comes from western breeding, the KBJ herd is known for producing thick- made, easy doing , sound cattle. His dam is a thick, moderate framed great uddered cow. We feel that this is a clear testament to a cow that has raised one heck of a set of twins! She is very deep, broody, and evidently a great milker!

Back in 2013 we decided to branch out into the Express Ranch genetics and try out a few sires, and we are certainly glad that

we did and are very impressed with the results in our breeding program. Significant is a son of Consensus, out of Sitz Upwards full sister, Sitz Upward being the grandsire of the other 3 lots consigned by us. We have not seen the ultrasound data yet but Scott Bothwell of BIO was very impressed with what he was looking at. FLA 27B’s dam is by Heavy Hitter who is by most accounts the deepest ribbed Angus bull. His mother FLA 40Y possesses a well structured udder and there is no shortage of milk there.

This guy got his name due to the fact ever visitor during the summer pasture tours said the same thing, “Who's that big red

boy”. Big Boi 121B’s sire is the power house, meat machine Red Ter-Ron Fully Loaded 540R and his dam also has a nickname around the farm Two Ton Tina due to the fact she is so deep bodied she is the definition of a “belly dragger”! 121B does have a higher BW for an Angus so I won't recommend for heifer but turn him out on the Simmental cows or Charolais cows to get those yellow calves the buyers go crazy for. This guy is deep red on the outside and you’ll be able to see on sale day he’s full of red meat under his hide also.

What a great time to own beef cows, as I talked with a producer just the other day, "Now we don't own enough beef cows", it surely is an exceptional time. While here at PROBULL, we again calve 16 fall calvers and 45 winter calvers, starting the winter group on Dec 17th, we calved about 10 on cornstalks with good weather before the real winter set in, and 'real winter' did set in. We had 43 calves by Jan 25th, and had now calves in that dreadfully cold February. With this 2 straight years of extreme cold we made a decision on the first heats to start breeding, the bulls went out. We are heading to November/October calving, and as I edit this (Mar 16th), it appears we are pretty much done breeding, while it would be normal for us to just get started. The PROBULL herd has always excelled in fertility, with 43 calves in 39 days, it has always excelled in performance and we have done this now since the mid 90'z, multi-generation composites. With an eye on individual records, we have recorded with BIO since 1987, and through selection based on structure, soundness, personality and record of performance, we kind a know where we are coming from and going too, PREDICTABILTIY!!! TERMS: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. The right of the property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Carson’s Auction Services reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, Carson’s Auction Services reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. BIDS: Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. DISPUTES: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on such matter will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY: The proper Registration or Recordation papers, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made. SHIPPING: Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale but no risk is assumed by the Sales Management or the Seller. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instructions when making settlement. BREEDERS GUARANTEE: Bulls are guaranteed for breeding soundness, for six (6) months from time of sale, provided the bull receives adequate care. EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE: In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. ACCIDENTS: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sale Manager, Auctioneer, or Consignor assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the even of accident of loss of property. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS: The above terms and conditions of the sale constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and are equally binding to both. PROVISION AND USE OF INFORMATION PRODUCED BY BIO: As part of the terms and conditions of BIO’s Beef Evaluation Services, it is understood that information provided by BIO including, but not limited to, genetic and carcass evaluations are produced using the very best knowledge available and are pursuant to generally accepted industry standards. The intent of the information provide by BIO is for comparative purposes only for both the animal consignor and buyer. This information is provided for the purpose of general guidance only to beef producers. The purchaser and/or user of this information agrees to hold Beef Improvement Ontario harmless for any losses or damages that may be incurred as a result of receipt of and/or reliance upon this general comparative information. This clause shall be a complete defense to any claim brought by the purchaser and/or user in relation such services. CARSON’S AUCTION SERVICES ARE AGENTS ONLY: It is to be clearly understood that Carson’s Auction Services are only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and are not in any way responsible for any failure on the part of either party to live up to his obligation, neither does Carson’s Auction Services assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of any monies between parties, and any legal action that may, in exceptional cases, be taken, must be between the buyer and the seller. The Auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made proper credit clearance prior to the sale with the owner or the Sales Manager.
